The Workshop forge-fires continue to blaze! We have been hard at work since release and we still have a LONG list of things that needs doing. Today, we want share some updates with you.

Our old interface was rather dated. So we've updated the customize rank interface. Here you can see the list of changes.
  • Members can now see all available rank icons in larger versions.
  • Dragon and Demon rank icons have been added.
    • Unlock Dragon rank icons by having the corresponding amount of uploaded resources.
    • Unlock Demon rank icons by having the corresponding amount of contest wins.
  • Icons you haven't unlocked yet are greyed out.
  • We have included the requirement to unlock a specific rank under each respective icon.
  • You can now see how it's going to look on your profile right away in the live preview.
  • You now also get a notification when you have unlocked a new rank icon! (Coming soon)

  • We have changed the award showcase limit of 4 to unlimited.
  • Members can now display ALL their awards if he/she so chooses.
  • Members can still customize the order in which awards are displayed on his profile.

We prefer ads that are relevant for our community! Thusly, we have added a custom ad-rotator that will feature our own ads! This includes but is not limited to project spotlights! Many map makers want more people to play their maps, and this is a great way for your map project to get more exposure and more players to play your map!

For a small fee (see table below), members can get their own banner shown in our ad-rotator. We also allow animated GIF banners up to 2,5 MB. Hosted projects get this privilege free of charge (one of the perks of project hosting).

Members are allowed to design the banners themselves, provided they have the skill.
Our Advertising Policies provide guidance on what types of ad content are allowed. When advertisers place an order, each ad is reviewed against these policies. If you think that your ad was mistakenly disapproved, you can request a review of the decision in Admin Contact.

In celebration of reaching 99.000 members and Hive's 17th anniversary, we have decided to make a special LIMITED TIME ONLY community shirt! Don't miss this chance for your name to be immortalized!

Hello Community!

The Workshop forges are glowing hotter than ever! We have been hard at work since release and we still have a LONG list of things that needs doing. Our first priority is to fix any site breaking issues, after that we can move on to tweaking/adjusting things. We've heard a lot of feedback and many good ideas, which we will come to later.

We also want to tell you that we have multiple secret Hive projects in the works - which we can't wait to show you! Some features may take a bit longer than others, but all good things come to those who wait ;)

The Substandard badge has been removed and replaced with Useful / Simple badge and the description has been changed. The old name and description were misleading.

We are bringing back Director's Cut!
A moderator can now award a resource with the Director's Cut Badge (High Quality) which also grants the author +50 EXP. Director's Cut is a quality filter option that can help members search through some of the highest quality user submitted resources. Thanks to @Mr.Goblin for the badge icons!

Any resources that were Director's Cut in the past will be so again. Members can also ask for a re-review of their submitted resources in the Staff Contact.
Resources are reviewed on a case by case basis and it's up to the respective moderator to decide if a resource is DC worthy. If you disagree with a moderator review, then you can contact the administration.

To get an idea on what constitutes a high quality asset and what we are looking for - here are some criteria that must be met.

Note that these are guidelines and are not fully comprehensive. We reserve the right to evaluate each resource submission on case by case basis.

Models - Nearly 100% original work (i.e. animations (flawless cycle, creative), mesh (execution, sculpting level, polies), texture (level of details, use of ingame textures, wrapping) etc.
  • Mesh (/20)
    • Coherence of polygon distribution, skill demonstrated in the shapes.
  • Wrap (/20)
    • Is it noticeably blurry or stretched from an in-game perspective? Do the textures have depth and definition?
  • Animations (/20)
    • Are they lively and fluid? Do they make good use of exaggeration and acceleration? How is the timing?
  • SFX (/10)
    • Are the effects properly saturated? Are they underwhelming? Are they appropriate for their animations and theme?
  • Portrait (/10)
    • Is the portrait visually pleasing and interesting, or is it an afterthought? Is it atmospheric? If applicable, can the model talk?
  • Mechanics (/10)
    • Selectability, footprints, sounds, collisions, attachments.
  • Creativity (/10)
Skins - 100% original freehand work (level of details, great lightning/shading, wraps perfectly, creativity, seamless, outstanding composition etc.)


Icons - 100% original freehand work


Maps - Outstanding map layout, terrain, assets, scripts, triggers, gameplay, story etc.


Spells - Execution, script, visual, gameplay, creativity etc.
  • Spell Criteria:
    • Excellent usage of imported materials or in-game effects, if any. (I'd weigh it about 15% - 20%)
    • High level of Configurability (10% - 15%)
    • Creativity (10% - 15%)
    • Importability (15%)
    • Code Maintainability (25% - 30%)
    • Game Mechanics (5% - 25%)
  • System Criteria:
    • Importability (35%)
    • Code Maintainability (30% - 35%)
    • User Friendliness (15% - 30%)
