PATCH:
This campaign was developed on patch 1.29 - it is expected to be completely stable
Rough testing has been done on patch 1.31 - stable
Patch 1.32 and above seem to be fairly stable

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
Dwarf Campaign by @Tommi Gustafsson for introducing me to custom campaigns and the storytelling possibilities of Warcraft 3
This Wreckage by @Rao Dao Zao for demonstrating the passion necessary for a truly polished project
Joe's Quest and Friends by @Med. MapGuy for showing me that humor and showmanship both have a place in such stories
Every custom campaign on this site - because playing through them all helped shape my own
Rayman90 for smoothing out my triggers back in 2021 and continuing to do so even now
Darks0le, Deedo Zah, and Blade - for playtesting since the very start

NOTES:
I began this project in 2020 with limited experience in map-making. Working on it has been an immensely rewarding journey. I hope you have as much fun playing as I had making it.
While this campaign is complete, the journey is far from over. I plan to continue development and deliver new troll stories through additional chapters in the future.

CHANGELOG:
Chapter 1
  • Fixed a sound issue for the Crabby Bribe quest completion (was playing the quest discovered sound).
  • Resolved an issue where the vine trap effect persisted after triggering.
  • Enhanced the visibility of the vine entangle area bounds.
  • Fixed lighting issues when using the tunnel specialist to travel to Saurok town.
  • Updated the Blood Harvest tooltip for better clarity.
  • Attempted to address an issue where the Blood Harvest ability appears when achieving any item combination.
(Note: the cause of this bug isn't clear to me yet, it might still happen)
Chapter 2
  • Corrected a quest message error when attuning the tablet to air.
  • Added a model for the Orb of Lightning to match other orbs in the campaign.
  • Fixed a skybox issue during the smoke signal quest.
  • Resolved a pathing issue with the Hearthkeeper's teleport ability.
Chapter 3
  • Addressed an issue where testing items would appear at the start of the map.
  • Addressed an issue of duplicate Auxiliary voice lines and quest messages.
Chapter 4
  • Resolved the battle sound issue during the intro cinematic.
Chapter 5
  • Fixed an issue where the optional quest completion message was not displaying.
Chapter 6
  • Addressed an issue where skipping the boss intro would cause the map to restart.
Misc
  • Addressed a visual issue with the Warbeast Kraal model.
  • The backpack upgrade now affects mounted troll units.
(Note: mounted units and items behave weirdly in wc3. Any time a mount/dismount ability is used all carried items are dropped at the carrier's location)

Chapter 1
  • Fixed an oversight where treants summoned by Ancient Sasquach dropped gold (non-humanoid creeps don't drop gold in this campaign).
  • Kruppe's Vinesolver item now grants an ability upon purchase instead of using an item slot for the duration of its use.
  • Map of Treasure Vaults item now has 3 charges instead of permanent use (as it has no use after the quest anyway).
  • Instead of being removed once the quest counter hits 50, the Blood Harvest ability now remains active for the remainder of the chapter.
  • Addressed lighting issues on load while in the grotto area.
  • Destructible trees and plants are now marked by fireflies to indicate their presence better.
Chapter 2
  • Addressed an issue where a route pathing remained open when it should have closed in the last quest.
  • Kruppe's Raggedy Scroll item now disappears after its use in the cinematic (whether it is bought from the shop or not).
  • Added firefly marks to destructible trees and plants.
Chapter 3
  • Reworked the Walking Hive's locust ability:
    • Before it would channel a single 180-second locust swarm from an untargetable source.
    • Now it spawns three locust eggs each of which launches a swarm. The eggs can be targeted and killed.
  • Addressed multiple trigger leaks in the Necropolis submap (this could potentially prevent the slow load times/crashes when returning to the main map).
  • Addressed an issue where some doodads in the earthen camp would play unintended animations.
  • Corrected an oversight where Oriss' ultimate was visible in the Latent Forge submap.
  • Any items remaining in the Zan'do fight area after the fight will now teleport to the beginning of the Necropolis submap (to avoid backtracking).
Chapter 4
  • Resolved some points where pathing was available to ground units when it should not.
  • Added firefly marks to destructible trees and plants.
Chapter 5
  • Swarm timers have been slightly reduced.
  • Addressed an issue where Aqir Striders appearing from the western spawn points would not attack.
Chapter 6
  • Addressed an issue where Rendar's passive ability would never proc.
  • The barriers appearing during Behemoth miniboss fights now disappear when there are no player units around the boss.
  • Removed pathing from certain areas where it shouldn't be available.
Misc
  • Several tooltip and voice line typos fixed.

Troll Campaign v2.02 (Campaign)

deepstrasz
A very visually pleasing Classic pre-Warcraft campaign with emphasis on boss fights and melee having a nice story on the background of trolls and around pre-ancient Warcraft events. Approved. If you want more reviews, you should participate in the...

I just entered the second submap on Chapter 3 and I gotta say that intro 'scene' really got me 🤣🤣.
Really really well done though, it's the first time I have seen something like that in a custom campaign.

great campaign but either i missed a hint for the "Dormant hand of the juggler" or im stupid but i can not figure it out
The game's UI can be used to your advantage

Is this based on canonical Warcraft lore or fan fiction?
Both actually. The story is framed by canon lore surrounding the Troll-Aqir War but the characters and individual story beats are written by me.

Excellent campaign!

The terrain is the best of warcraft 3 with a layer of polish and use of custom models that just makes you want to explore the entire map. The custom skyboxes adds a lot to the cinematics and the music fits the gameplay really well. Use of existing items and the combining item system helps keep old items interesting.

Many of the cutscenes in this are masterpieces that must have taken ages to get just right, especially the intro to chapter 3 just oozes atmosphere.

On top of all this, the campaign has full voice acting which I was not aware of before playing which was a great surprise! And for the most part, the quality stays very good throughout! Some accents here and there which come and go but that is very minor and is barely noticable.

I played this campaign on the latest warcraft 3 1.36 patch and had no issues at all with completing it.

I will leave some issues/notes I found below but since the campaign is made for 1.29 some may be due to reforged issues.
General
  • Loading screens do not work correctly. Still see horde symbol and the text is not in correct place. Looks like 4:3 dimensions.
AD_4nXfdjN-KNztsOeV6skAsptLXrDfvjG-jDB3-07M7FIMvKxy6EcmItgBtN1xi3qYFVMG67L6VZ7xsgfTaRhNoKUFMM-wxruSIFKURcvQrvyhnt6PlHjiVmrlXgkH17AH0jQDa762ZcA-Zx1qhvg2IGeSSz5xZ

  • Spirit Snake level 1 has pillage
  • Spirit Snake evasion has demon hunter evasion icon (Since everything else is so polished it feel wierd there is no specific snake evasion :) )
  • Perhaps the Eqq sack could use a custom model/texture to differentiate spider egg/aqir egg
  • Music can stack upon load save game, I think this is a reforged problem
  • Claws of Attack +5 have the claws of attack +6 description and effect. Guess it should be +6?
  • Claws of Attack +8 have the claws of attack +9 description and effect. Guess it should be +9?

Chapter 1
  • Blood harvest was given to Oriss for me when combining Druid Poach, Totem and Jade Ring. Was it just lucky timing for me? I guess that the lifesteal was to make chapter 1 easier?
  • Item space is quite limited in chapter 1, key items could be set up as consumables to help with that.
  • The Dark Stone seemed to be missing for me, or was it supposed to only be the dark terrain everywhere and the burrowed Kithix?
  • Blood stone is a consumable rune item. The quest gathering blood still works but the dialogue implies it is supposed to be a real item that gets stronger.

Chapter 2
  • Terrain in cutscene bugged out. Looks like the whole terrain should have been black but is not
  • AD_4nXc9ECHfs6-56Sv3uLH0RDm2EOAage3SJLkCYD88JLxt-IMn0aaRj6Uf5Yzbu02cy2ORe_uW17Onf-spKd_tRJsYBPOnv4YkpT_eF3wVUN45fmK4nO8tUJ24bLCB9XpvyqHKn6Ny8e0L_Mii8UIUsJ3sekHU

Chapter 3
  • A bunch of items on the ground at start of chapter. Seems to be random assortment of duplicate stuff from Oriss and Rendar and Kruppe. Items that was on units in chapter 1 is missing (which I guess is the point since they are random drops?).
  • Last 3 lines after Mjolnir fight triggers twice along with quest, causing the voice acting to be exited.

Chapter 5
  • The optional quest is not marked as completed after completing it.

Cannot recommend this campaign enough. Thank you for the experience!

They're going to have to create a new rating range to evaluate this campaign, I haven't finished it yet but come on... This is a true work of art. Setting, dialogues, gameplay, everything seems measured to the millimeter and polished to the extreme. A rate of 5 and a like don't do justice to content of this level. My most sincere congratulations and a thousand thanks for sharing it with everyone.

Regards.

Broo sorry i need help in final chapter how can we beat that giant octopus before he recharged his power
That fight was surely a challenge, though beatable. Kruppe and Oriss got 1 disable each, plus, if you completed Kaldra set from chapters 3 and 4, then you have a good summon with a third disable. Be sure to gather as much complex artifacts as possible, they all will be needed in final battle.

Loved EVERY second spent on this masterpiece. From terrains to gameplay, from unique units and complex characters to quality voicing and cutscenes, I am very much sure there is little to nothing close to this level of a Campaign. Laughed a bit with elements from other games (like reworked models from SC series and ground and underground maps, connected via cave enters, which (i presume!) came from Armies of Exigo), yet they looked so natural i couldn't help but immerse myself in the story, caring little about these things. The ONLY trouble i came to have known while playing it on 1.31.1 version was with chapter 3 map travelling, Necropolis in particular. Game may take more time to switch maps, and sometimes game outright crashed, yet i overcame this by simply waiting it out. My guess it's something on my side, so i didn't bother any longer.
You've done a great work, be seeing you soon in "highest rated maps" section :xxd:

P.S. The story ended with a strong point, yet I for sure won't be against a sequel)

Absolute cinema, what a blast.

From complex, yet not boring and very interesting characters, to great map design and sometimes funny easter eggs. (I saw that Arthas reference there!) It even has completely custom bossfights, multiple at that!

Hard recommendation to anyone!

I loved it, it's awesome in every aspect. I played in the latest version (1.36) and it worked pretty well, with only one crash in the ending cinematic.

Great campaign so far. Great story, immersion and atmosphere, good use of skyboxes, beautiful music, solid AI voice acting. Some minor issues after chapter one:

  • When the fight with Void Revenant started, part of my forces ended up beyond the barrier - they should be moved inside automatically
  • When the master sends us to kill 50 creatures, I think we should keep control over at least some of our warriors. I thought the Revenant was the final boss, so beforehand I spent my gold on items to have them transferred to the next map... and then I had to sell them back to have gold to hire new troops. This was very counter-intuitive. Although having completed the chapter I see why it was done.
  • Enemy creeps have oddly small detection range, so I can often engage them one by one.
  • Our master dropping items kinda spoils he's gonna either die or turn evil :p.

Not a personal fan of trolls, but after playing through this campaign, I can say that the quality at which it was made just hits right. The story is engaging, the characters are cool, and the missions are diverse enough to keep you engaged and avoid repetitiveness. The amount of models and assets used, as well as their uses, is astounding.
All and all, THIS is a true Troll Campaign if I ever could think of any. I will be looking forward to the follow-ups.

The strategy is quite simple, yet may require above-average micro-managing skills.
Oriss got a "Hypnotic gaze" stun ability, Kruppe got a "Bad juju" silence ability. Kaldra's set summon got a "Throw rock" stun skill. Most of the time you need only to evade aoe-attacks of Kith'ix and effectively dispatch summoned nuisances, such as aqir drones, egg clutches, Void creatures and so on. Attacking main boss can be left on auto attack, except when he speak - only then you need to have a disable spell, one of the mentioned above, recharged and fast casted when the ring sounds. You'll have at max around 6 seconds to do it, then - game over. Highly advised to have a fast save after each succesful disable on main boss
That's pretty much it, good luck and have fun)

This is a masterpiece.🕵️‍♂️🚬

Amazing work. I can't believe I already binged it all in one weekend. R.I.P.

Absolutly fantastic and really fun to play, this is really high quality content. Loved the characters, the atmosphere and the world you've created. Hoping to play part 2 in the future. Excellent work!

I've played on last online patch and I've only encountered 3 crashes on mission 4, but that's all (luckily because I'd felt really sad If I coulnd't finish playing it).

The game's UI can be used to your advantage
Now I see what you did there. I figure it out unexpectedly though. 😂
