Nightborne v2.02

NIGHTBORNE V2.01
Created by Wa666r

Map Info:

An alternate melee in my series of maps involving lore races from the Warcraft universe. This addition allows the players to explore and play as the sophisticated race of Nightborne.

The Nightborne are an ancient elven civilization, descendants of Highborne who shielded their city of Suramar within a powerful arcane dome for 10,000 years. Sustained by the potent magic of the Nightwell, they became physically dependent on its energy (often consumed as Arcwine), risking a debilitating Withering without it. Freed from Legion influence and their isolation, they are now proud members of the Horde, known for their sophisticated culture, mastery of arcane magic (especially illusion and temporal arts), and distinct physical features shaped by millennia of living on concentrated arcane power.

TO PLAY AS THE NIGHTBORNE, CHOOSE HUMAN AT 90% HANDICAP WHEN CHOOSING YOUR RACE. ALSO FOR THE AI.

Magic Sanction-heals buidlings but the worker already has the Repair ability. The Violet Glaive icon (after being researched) still looks like a DISBTN instead of a PASBTN. 300% regeneration rate for nearby units as a passive aura? Do the nightborne...

Really good update. Was never a fan of this race before but now you did an amazing job.

I feel like you have been inspired by Survival Chaos map, I can see a lot od similarities between their and yout Nightborne.

Few things I noticed are:
  • that Chronomancer? (Priest skin) has two overlaping abilities that do similar things(first and third one),
  • thar Arcwine boat looks strange to attack from meele, I would give it short range (like 200) ranged attack and make that cleave into splash instead
  • Magistrix really deserve better model. Maybe this: High Illusionist

Happen to crash without the Nightborne ai?
Played it without enemy AI and without using the first 2 Nightborne heroes - and managed to defeat the enemy flawlessly.
But there are some moments I want to clarify:
  1. I played 2 vs 2 and saw that neither my AI Ally nor my enemies were expanding or attacking each other, even myself. They just sit at their bases, doing their AI (Normal) stuff, and don't explore or expand, living only with 1 goldmine. Weird.
  2. Why I should use caster with "Aegis"-spell buff when I can have Occulist with the same effect, but always active and like passive aura, AND being nice "bouncing artillery-stuff"?
Overall I think that having a unit that can dodge damage by a period is a bit of cheating, I think.
Although I liked this race and your implementation of "Withering" is nice to see.
Like.

PS:
Will post a video showcasing soon. Here is a replay.

Thank you, I'm not a fan of the first version either.

Interesting coincidence; I've never played that.

  • Kinda like a Sorceress (Slow and Polymorph). I think the two abilities different enough. One debuffs and enemy and buffs a friendly, the other is a single target disable with a little bonus.
  • I wish the model had an actual attack animation.
  • You know what? True.

Nice.
  • AI is weird. I haven't touched the vanilla ai. They just kinda do whatever.
  • Its not the same effect though. One grants a damage shield and bonus armor, the other is an aura the slowly heals. Both have a secondary effect of preventing Withering debuff.

fun-balanced, yknow.

Of all the maps you've updated, this one left me with a... mystical feeling. It's hard to describe, perhaps because of the game's interface, the "quirky" units and structures. The only thing missing is a system where the game's music changes when playing with a custom race to enhance that feeling.

Mystical is what I was going for. Too bad the sound aspect is the hardest to implement. I would like custom voicelines and such, but it bloats the filesize a lot, is annoying and expensive to make ai voicelines. and it requires replacing existing voicelines.

I promised - I delivered.

Hell yeah. Nice job. Custom AI should work now.
