Warcraft III: Remembered. Human CAMPAIGN

The 15th of November of 2024 is birthday of Warcraft: 30 years old! HOLY COW!!!!

So, let's celebrate together, guys! :peasant-cheers-back::peasant-cheers: I've remade my project - it's now a real campaign.

It’s Warcraft II … the combat is done in a way, like… it feels like Warcraft II, which is really something to be proud of, I think. Because I think, it’s really nailed here. […] Even though there are noticeable changes, specifically like oil. There’s a lot of creative liberty taken, but overall, it’s a really good foundation for a Warcraft II remake. I think, it’s fantastic.

Yeah, that's true: this mod is unforgivingly difficult on hard. You have to know exactly what and even when to do. But this is going to remain that way, for it perfectly depicts my childhood memories: these games were pretty hard back in the days. They were not always fair. It was not always clear how to beat them. But they had a big soul. That's why they're still remembered.
As for the rest, I'll consider these mistakes when I'll be working on my next project.

Warcraft III: Remembered is a remake of Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, made for Warcraft III: Reforged. This is the Human Campaign. It contains the original 14 levels. The goal of this project is to refresh childhood memories of elder gamers and to introduce Tides of Darkness to a new audience. Every unit here costs 1 food, the Polymorph spell has a permanent effect, you can build ships and upgrade them; demolition squads, which will allow you to blow up indestructible rocks, are back. The original soundtrack as well as units‘ voices are also here.

The additional levels are finally here as an expansion: Warcraft III: Remembered. Expansion

Because I’ve managed to find out that these issues have something to do with Reforged graphics and new patches. That's why i replaced all 3D models and icons.


2. There is an amazing Warcraft II remake which has nothing to do with this one, but I still would love to introduce it to you. You can find these custom campaigns here:

These two are the best custom Warctaft III campaigns I've seen so far: they’re not insanely difficult, there is a lot of interesting changes and they also depict the atmosphere of the original game perfectly. Have fun!

Main features:
  • NEW: New user interface,
  • NEW: Drawn icons,
  • NEW: Optional objectives - complete them, and you will receive a useful bonus on the next level,
  • NEW: New difficulty level - "A bit Harder". It's something between "Normal" and "Hard",

Download the campaign. Then it them into your Warcraft III data directory (usually it’s C:/ Documents:/ Warcraft III:/Campaigns). After that launch the game –> single player –> custom campaigns-> select the campaign -> enjoy

2. Which version of Warcraft III is required?

ONLY Warcraft III: Reforged.


3. Are you going to remake Beyond the Dark Portal too?

No.

4. Are there any RPG levels?

No, sorry.

5. Does this campaign follow the lore of Warcraft precisely?

No, because I decided to concentrate myself on the gameplay. I changed or added some events and conditions in order to make the process more variable.

Loving the loading screen artwork. Congrats for that! I've seen you have not used oil as a resource at all. You should contact @LordPerenoldeII and ask him to aid you in making such a system since he already implemented one in his campaign remakes...

Havent played in a while (like a year or so ) and i thought, lets check out for what has changed in my period of absence.
I was happy to find out that this custom campaing has been realesed and i find it interesting.

There s no point to review it this early because i just played 2 maps in hard difficulty.
Its is Hard but in an unforgiving way. Like 1 hit units ... anyhow i dont mind this.
But The thing though is that i tried to save just as a security blanket and the game crushed on me.
So thats not good.
Also some enemies on ground appear only as shadows, i cant focus them just aeo damage.
More to come i guess if you ll be interested in my feedback i ll follow it up in this thread.

It happened in the 2nd map , Hard mode. The plan was full tank mode so after i finished upgrading tanks tried to manual save.
And yes, i play classic mode, tnk you.

Oh, you mean the extra Dwarf levels? Ok. I'm gonna check out the main campaigns first. I will check out the extra 8 levels a bit later. I'll let you know when I'm done. So sorry for this issue.

Great work! I'm on human mission 7 atm, plays perfectly good! I'm not even hating sea missions that much xD Also like the tweaked AI on hard difficulty, I'm a sc1/wc3/sc2 veteran and default difficulty was kinda way too easy for me.

In a SS i can see Dwarven buildings, but in the maps i cant...

Is a problem in my WC3:R? :(

Hm... Did you download all the maps using the bundles or the google-drive-link (the google version does not have new 3D models)? Because it has to be working! Can you try viewing these maps via WorldEditor? Maybe it will help us to solve this problem.
Hm, in WorldEditor it looks as human farms! =/

Maybe Quenching Mod is making it bug?

  3. Not sure high elves should have an upgrade called Strength of the Moon. Sounds night elvish.
  4. Units with hero glow are immersion breaking and they do not usually have death animations, their bodies remaining on the terrain for long periods of time.
  5. I guess it should be Elven Peasant, not Peasaht.

Still needs some work to get closer to the Warcraft II feel, especially on the oil and abilities part, but it's a lovely remake for Reforged and one of the first.

I would however like it if you made a credits list with the names of the users whose resources you've used, if not the resource links themselves.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try my best! However, there are no units with hero glow anymore. Now it has new 3d models. But it's ok. I still have something to polish.

Well, Loktar's Jass systems had already issues between versions prior to 1.28, so...

I like how you also made an effort to change all units' death sounds

In chapter 3, there's a typo in the Quest tab where it says "ans" instead of "and"

In chapter 8, the buildings are High Elf even though Tyr's Hand is a human city; replace them with humans instead

In chapter 9, Alterac has elven ships and units; replace them with humans instead

I like the "secret area" in chapter 10

In chapter 10, the Alteraci Mage model can be replaced with the Apprentice Mage model instead

edit: use this skin for the high elf swordsmen and peasants: High elves eye replacements (Worker/Swordsman)

I have two questions though: 1. When did you play this campaign and 2. Did you experience any crashes?

Hey Akula, missions 6 and 8 have a very high tendency to crash especially when clicking on the minimap. It's probably something added in the one of the newest wc3 updates because I was able to play the same missions without any trouble months back.

Thank you for the feedback! I tries to validate the maps' triggers - it didn't help. For now, I'm still searching or a solution.

I've found the solution: I had to make alternative versions of these maps with no new 3D models and only for the classick graphichs. Mission 8 works for me now. Let me know if it has helped you as well.

Played on hard and there were no crashes this time, the only thing that stuck out besides reforged icons alongside SD ones was the regular elven archer has the green box of death for an icon. No problems with the ranger though.

Really cool take on the WC2 campaign, I really enjoyed it so far. Currently at mission H006 where I get crashes a lot, I think it happens mostly when I check the minimap, but sometimes it triggers without me doing anything specifically. Thank you! This problem has already been solved. You can either download the alternate version for the classic graphichs from this bundle (it's called H006 alt) OR download the new version for classic with new 3D models from here: Remembered Classic

Apparently happens for all missions with custom 3D models, can't play any mission past 5 for long before it crashes. Same with the orc remembered campaign, so I guess it's a generic thing. I'll probably retry much later. At any case, great job!

WHAT?!!!

...Please tell me, it only happens with reforged graphics on. Just try the classic version and let me know if that works. PLEASE.
Because I don't know anymore...

It only happens with reforged graphics on, the classic versions work well, had no crashes. My bad, what I said earlier wasn't exactly clear.

I tried the whole setup with reforged graphics on a completely different machine btw, a mac, and although it runs really well while it runs it still crashes, meaning it's not a computer / graphics card or whatever specific problem. Some guy on Discord suggested "upgrading the models to work with the latest WC3R patch", but you would probably know more about that, just putting this here 🙂

Hey, I know it's been a long time, I randomly opened W3 after a pretty long hiatus, got some updates in and thought about trying this again. I want to say it works perfectly, both this and the Orc Remembered campaign, no crashes after a few days of playing, so I was really able to enjoy what you did. It's great, taking the original W2 maps and adding in lots of flavor, while keeping it within the original idea, I really appreciate your work.

THANK YOU, MY MATE!!! ... Jesus... It's crazy, how Blizzard did this, so it's almost completeöy random, if a mod's about to work. But thank you very much. I HOPE it remains this way and the dev won't spoil the game with another patch of theirs.

Hey, I started playing your maps recently, and i must say, i dont get some things that are happening.
1) why are peasants only carrying 5 resource per mine instead of 10? combined with how mines are usually a bit further away from town hall than they used to be normally it really sets me back with gold, contrary they chop trees unusually fast
2) why orcs are in so much better possitions so often? (mission 6, player starts with 4.5k mine, orcs start with 2 20k mines)

1) In Warcraft II harvesting speed was lower. The gold mines were located not so close to the player's start location. So, this is how I adjusted the old game's mechanic. And, yes, that can be tedious from time to time.
2) There are two reasons for that. On one hand, they have to keep mining as long as possible, so they can harrass the player as long as possible. On the other hand, capturing the enemy's gold mine is supposed to be a reward for an active/aggressive style of playing.

Which difficulty are you playing on? The lack of the gold is intentional.
As for the editor crashes - you have to change preferences of the editor first. Open the Editor -> File -> Preferences -> Asset Mode -> SD
After that you will be able to change the map. This is exactly how I have to do it myself.

Couldn't even make it past the first level. When saving the farms about oh say 3rd pack in. Just didn't get enough units to start with. Oh well, good effort anyways.

Let me start this rating with one thing. WarCraft II Tides of Darkness is my favorite PC game of all time, and I'm happy to see people making remakes/remastered with their changes/twists. And this campaign enters in the lists of Remaking WarCraft II in the right way.

Let's jump into the things I liked:
  • Playing as the Alliance. What I mean is that you, as the player, will have the chance to play some chapters by commanding also the Dwarves and the Elven forces. This is my favorite feature that I saw in this campaign :peasant-ok-hand:.
  • Optional objectives. This might be a minor factor to anyone but adding optional objectives makes you play the chapters differently. Plus if you complete them you'll have a bonus to the next chapter so it is worth it.:peasant-thumbs-up:
  • The changes in Human Chapter 8 and 10. I'll start with Chapter 8 and I have to say that your idea is actually good. Instead of the classic destroy everything objective, you have to rescue some units, kinda like chapter 2, but it is 'extended' because you have a limited time to do it. In chapter 10 you now have two choices to reach the prisoners, and it is also a sort of timed mission because if you don't act fast then you're going to lose the prisoners.

Things I didn't like:
  • The absence of the oil system. I know that making a third resource in WC3 isn't easy, especially something like an Oil system that only works on a type of the terrain for the map. I have seen two other remakes of WC2 in WC3 made by different people and they have made an actually Oil System. Don't consider this as a penality but just a little note from me
  • The splash damage of the Gryphon Riders. I get the idea of using the splash damage to kinda replicate the chances of damaging your own unit but when you have one Gryphon rider attack a Pig farm and see it dying by himself because the splash was too near to the unit is weird :peasant-shocked:
  • The Laughing Skull. I don't get the idea of why you have putted this clan in chapter 6:peasant-neutral:. This clan is supposed to be in Draenor when the first group of clans attacked Lordaeron and the other nations. Personally, I would have putted the Bleeding Hollow (Teal) or the Twilight's Hammer (Purple) Clan since both were present in Khaz Modan
