Warcraft III: Remembered. Human CAMPAIGN

The 15th of November of 2024 is birthday of Warcraft: 30 years old! HOLY COW!!!!

So, let's celebrate together, guys! :peasant-cheers-back::peasant-cheers: I've remade my project - it's now a real campaign.

It’s Warcraft II … the combat is done in a way, like… it feels like Warcraft II, which is really something to be proud of, I think. Because I think, it’s really nailed here. […] Even though there are noticeable changes, specifically like oil. There’s a lot of creative liberty taken, but overall, it’s a really good foundation for a Warcraft II remake. I think, it’s fantastic.
Jayborino.

Yeah, that's true: this mod is unforgivingly difficult on hard. You have to know exactly what and even when to do. But this is going to remain that way, for it perfectly depicts my childhood memories: these games were pretty hard back in the days. They were not always fair. It was not always clear how to beat them. But they had a big soul. That's why they're still remembered.
As for the rest, I'll consider these mistakes when I'll be working on my next project.

Check out the UPD section to stay tuned.

Introduction:

Link to The Orc Campaign: Warcraft III: Remembered. Orc CAMPAIGN

Warcraft III: Remembered is a remake of Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, made for Warcraft III: Reforged. This is the Human Campaign. It contains the original 14 levels. The goal of this project is to refresh childhood memories of elder gamers and to introduce Tides of Darkness to a new audience. Every unit here costs 1 food, the Polymorph spell has a permanent effect, you can build ships and upgrade them; demolition squads, which will allow you to blow up indestructible rocks, are back. The original soundtrack as well as units‘ voices are also here.

The additional levels are finally here as an expansion: Warcraft III: Remembered. Expansion

1. If you have issues with this project (crashes and 3D models disappearing), check out another version of this project:

Remembered Classic

Because I’ve managed to find out that these issues have something to do with Reforged graphics and new patches. That's why i replaced all 3D models and icons.

2. There is an amazing Warcraft II remake which has nothing to do with this one, but I still would love to introduce it to you. You can find these custom campaigns here:

Warcraft 2 - Tides of Darkness - Humans
Warcraft 2 - Tides of Darkness - Orcs

These two are the best custom Warctaft III campaigns I've seen so far: they’re not insanely difficult, there is a lot of interesting changes and they also depict the atmosphere of the original game perfectly. Have fun!

Outdated intro:

My outdated playthrough

Main features:
  • NEW: New user interface,
  • NEW: Drawn icons,
  • NEW: Optional objectives - complete them, and you will receive a useful bonus on the next level,
  • NEW: New difficulty level - "A bit Harder". It's something between "Normal" and "Hard",
  • Fourteen original levels,
  • Music, sound effects and voices from ToD,
  • Nostalgic gameplay changes like the food usage and ships,
  • Three difficulty levels,
  • Enhanced layout of the original maps,
  • Some levels have new objectives or conditions,
  • Dwarves and High Elves as playable factions,
  • My illustrations,
  • Small achievment system: destroy hidden crates on every map - they will give you some resources. In the end of the level the game will tell you, if you've collected them all.
  • New 3d models,
  • New music and sound effects,
  • Enhanced food limit.
Possible Questions:

1. How can I play this?

Download the campaign. Then it them into your Warcraft III data directory (usually it’s C:/ Documents:/ Warcraft III:/Campaigns). After that launch the game –> single player –> custom campaigns-> select the campaign -> enjoy

2. Which version of Warcraft III is required?

ONLY Warcraft III: Reforged.

3. Are you going to remake Beyond the Dark Portal too?

No.

4. Are there any RPG levels?

No, sorry.

5. Does this campaign follow the lore of Warcraft precisely?

No, because I decided to concentrate myself on the gameplay. I changed or added some events and conditions in order to make the process more variable.

Warcraft: Remembered Humans (Campaign)

Loving the loading screen artwork. Congrats for that! I've seen you have not used oil as a resource at all. You should contact @LordPerenoldeII and ask him to aid you in making such a system since he already implemented one in his campaign remakes...

Let me start this rating with one thing. WarCraft II Tides of Darkness is my favorite PC game of all time, and I'm happy to see people making remakes/remastered with their changes/twists. And this campaign enters in the lists of Remaking WarCraft II in the right way.

Let's jump into the things I liked:
  • Playing as the Alliance. What I mean is that you, as the player, will have the chance to play some chapters by commanding also the Dwarves and the Elven forces. This is my favorite feature that I saw in this campaign :peasant-ok-hand:.
  • Optional objectives. This might be a minor factor to anyone but adding optional objectives makes you play the chapters differently. Plus if you complete them you'll have a bonus to the next chapter so it is worth it.:peasant-thumbs-up:
  • The changes in Human Chapter 8 and 10. I'll start with Chapter 8 and I have to say that your idea is actually good. Instead of the classic destroy everything objective, you have to rescue some units, kinda like chapter 2, but it is 'extended' because you have a limited time to do it. In chapter 10 you now have two choices to reach the prisoners, and it is also a sort of timed mission because if you don't act fast then you're going to lose the prisoners.

Things I didn't like:
  • The absence of the oil system. I know that making a third resource in WC3 isn't easy, especially something like an Oil system that only works on a type of the terrain for the map. I have seen two other remakes of WC2 in WC3 made by different people and they have made an actually Oil System. Don't consider this as a penality but just a little note from me
  • The splash damage of the Gryphon Riders. I get the idea of using the splash damage to kinda replicate the chances of damaging your own unit but when you have one Gryphon rider attack a Pig farm and see it dying by himself because the splash was too near to the unit is weird :peasant-shocked:
  • The Laughing Skull. I don't get the idea of why you have putted this clan in chapter 6:peasant-neutral:. This clan is supposed to be in Draenor when the first group of clans attacked Lordaeron and the other nations. Personally, I would have putted the Bleeding Hollow (Teal) or the Twilight's Hammer (Purple) Clan since both were present in Khaz Modan

Here is the link to my play through of the campaign
Thank you so much! And the thing with the Gryphons: they used to kill each other (or any other friendly unit) easily in the original game. So, I decided to recreate that feature as well... Well, at least, the catapults weren't THAT annoying (compering to those in the very first Warcraft and my remake of it)! :)

The campaign is polished and complete.

It is indeed Warcraft 2 as I remember playing as a kid. E.g. Dark Portal: Immediately pack guys into the transport ships - go left - drop units, mop up, try to save archers for later dragons - build Town Hall, Lumber Mill and Guard Towers in packs of three - protect them from demolishing by farms - etc.
One has to above all else save often and learn the intended (by Blizzard) way of winning the map by trials and errors.

Graphics are spotless, drawings during the loading screen nice and atmospheric.

Lack of oil is understandable - it is reportedly not easy to add another resource to the game - and streamlines the gameplay itself.

I played it only on Normal (later on Easy) because I'm on MacBook 2020 without a mouse (20 APM 😆) so I could see the scaling difference between Normal and Easy.
On Easy you still can lose (!) if you do not follow the expected action flow (see above) quick enough.
Never before had I go this low on the difficulty but it gave me new appreciation to the scaling.

CSW and "the other WC2 project" (can't recall its name) are the natural comparisons.

CSW is in the entirely different category as it employs all goodies from Warcraft 3 (heroes, demi-heroes, items, RPG elements). CSW is WC2 retelling with strong immersion into the lore via cinematics and gameplay.

"The other WC2 project" has oil AFAIR and in the expanded mode makes differentiation between stats, skills and availability of units between factions of both sides. It gives much flavour and is in the mid point between Warcraft 2 and CSW.

This Campaign is the most vanilla experience of WC2 in WC3 I've played so far. It's lightweight - no matter how many units I had the target frame rate, as opposed to CSW (old, non-gaming hardware can't be expected to perform on high-end graphics heavy projects like CSW). It's clean.

It has its charm and character. It's place in the modding/custom campaign space which it fits perfectly.

If you wish to re-live you childhood experience with WC2 this campaign is the one to go.

P.S. Originally I rated this campaign as 4/5 to let CSW get 5/5 but then changed my mind.
If you have a perfect motorcycle why rate it 4/5 because you've seen a nice car?

Sorry for the late reply. Yeah catapults weren't the abomination of the damage this time :peasant-grin:

Anyway, I saw that you started making a demo of the WC Origins for the Orc campaign, but I was wondering if you also update the Warcraft III: Remembered Orc Campaign, specifically if you're making the campaign file and not as separated maps.
I prefer the campaign map because it should be like this.

Great campaign until Chapter 8. The objectives laid out were just way over the top. Had to quit at that chapter, you're just not given enough resources to start off with in order to defend and sack that goblin town hall in under 10 minutes.

I recommend watching this playthrough:

Bro did it on "A bit harder difficulty". And I don't recommend playing on "hard".
through great amounts of saves and loads I am able to do everything on hard. However when approaching the hour long mark during any one mission the game crashes and even upon reloading will crash again every timne at that 1 hour mark. I have no idea whats causing this

Thank you for your feedback! I'll see what I can do.

And thank you for playing my project despite all the odds!
