As many people have noticed, Hive was down for a while yesterday.* We even got the usual "what happened to Hive?" thread over on The Helper, which is always a nice addition. The power went out, so the server went down. Just in case you were curious. So nothing terrible happened, and welcome back.

*Depending on where you live, this may be inaccurate.

Blizzard has just released patch 1.24b (on the version number listed as 1.24.1 rather than 1.24.0) a few hours ago, fixing the false positives and the false negatives in return bug finding, which in turn will hopefully "fix" a lot of maps broken by 1.24. While the changelog listed some other changes, those were all added (unannounced) to 1.24 at the last minute and thus this patch is basically just a fix of the mess that 1.24 created for coders.

After a long gap of a rather inactive hosted projects section with some more active "Hosted Forums", the hosted projects section returns with a new hosted project.




Most users at this site have probably already heard of it (and played it) by now. For those of you that have not, it is essentially a few fan made levels from Diablo III, or as the team's description puts it:

The team has done a great job both inside and outside of the game, with information, screenshots, and trailers on both The Hive and their own site. There's no way I could best their existing work, so without further ado:

The spells section purge mentioned in several threads is now in effect and will end on Friday, August 21, 2009 (all unconfirmed spells will be automatically deleted).

If you check one of your spells, you should see text stating that we need to get rid of the multitude of broken spells and to press "Keep my spell" if your spell works in 1.24 and complies to the new rules. Just press it if it does both of those things.

Please be careful when you are doing so to make sure that it does comply to the new rules, as several major things have changed since before the patch.

Blizzard has just announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty won't be released this year. From their announcement: "Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service. ... As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, we'll also continue to polish and refine StarCraft II, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series' legacy in the first half of 2010."
