If you get bored during this time, we suggest you to do one of several things:

Follow the JASS Class and do the assignments: JASS Class.
! -- Due to certain changes, everyone can now be an enrolled student and can thus submit his assignements for grading. (~~Observers~~)
Buy cheap games on the Steam Store.
Play through the maps listed below:
- Co-op/Multiple players required:
  - Cruiser Command (Complicated at first, but a lot of fun once mastered -- Min. 6 Players)
  - Battle for Tatooine (Perfect for Star Wars fans -- Also steering ships!)
  - Blades 'n Gore II (Hack' n' Slash, a lot of fast-paced action)
- Singleplayer:
  - Project Y4 / This Wreckage (The first one being new and quite advanced, something that will blow you away once played for a few minutes -- The latter being a classic custom map everyone knows and loves, it just has to be played once!)
  - Jetpack (For platformer fans / level editors)
  - Steel Saviour Episode II (Old-school-style arcade 2D game -- Can also be played with a second player)
  - Dark Vestige (Very dark atmosphere, unique combat system)
  - Crimson Expedition (Pretty neat AI players -- Can also be played in multiplayer)
  - Defense of Uthragon (Has AI players, can be played in multiplayer -- Classic castle defense map but really polished and a lot of small features)
  - Diablo III Halls of Agony (Can also be played in multiplayer -- Perfect for Diablo fans, but also overall RPG fans)
  - Tyr's Apprentice (Can take a while, but can be great fun if played with patience)
- Cinematic:
  - A Pile of Ugly (A really intriguing and well made cinematic -- Plus it's by CMarket, so you can always expect something unique)
- Eat a delicious cake.

We’re currently preparing our StarTools suite of 3ds Max plugins for initial release to the public in Beta form
and are looking for testers!

StarTools is a collection of custom-built plugins for 3ds Max 2011 which comprise the very tools that the
StarCraft II Art Team uses to create all of the models in the game. With these tools, 3D artists can
create textured and animated 3D models for StarCraft II custom mods, complete with all of the shader
materials and particle effects available to the development team.

Requirements to participate in the StarTools Beta:

3ds Max 2011

Experience in 3D modeling and/or animation

Texture or photo editing software able to save .tga files

The initial Closed Beta release will be limited to a select group of testers chosen out of this forum thread,
and expanded testing will be ongoing during the remainder of the StarCraft II:HotS Beta. Once
validated, the official release of StarTools will coincide with the 2.0 version of StarCraft II and will be
available to both Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm owners.

If you meet the requirements stated above and you’d like to help test StarTools, please reply to the
thread to opt-in.

Introducing the JASS Class. A chance for you to learn JASS (and vJASS), or augment your skills!
Enroll now!

The curriculum is split into 10 weeks, and there will be 1 session per week in which
an instructor will provide materials and brief explanations, answer questions and give assignments for the coming week.

The class has a maximum capacity of 15 students. This is to ensure that the instructor will have time for
every student.

Note: Registration will be on a first come, first served basis.

If you are not enrolled, you can still participate in the classes and follow the curriculum as an observer.
The only difference is that only enrolled students get their assignments officially graded and criticized.
You may still be able to get your assignment critized if you post it publicly.

We expect you to be aware of the basic principles of triggers. This includes:

- Conditions
- Actions
- Variables
We don't expect you to be a master at this, but merely understand the concepts around it.

Patch -「2.0.2」

Battle.Net:

Groups are now available! [See Groups Overview]
Matchmaking for Unranked Play is now available!
The Players Near Me feature, which finds the closest people to you that also play SCII, is now available!
The Arcade is now available! (Nothing new, exact version as the WoL one)

Game:

A new AI Command system - Gives the player several options to change the AI partner's behaviour, ranging from his general play-style (Play economically, to rush, to go for air, etc.) and also specific orders such as scouting, attacking a specific player.

In-Game UI:

New Display Options in [Options>Gameplay]! This is mostly for new players, such as a simplified Command Card View.

Editor:

New Diamond Shape in Terrain Palette! [See Diamond Shape]
New Data Navigator View in Data Module! [See Data Navigator]

「Groups Overview」

Visually similar to Clans, Groups are for communities and specific play-style groups.

No Tag! Clan-only feature.
Chat Channel is available.
News Page is available.
Info Page is available.
Roster Page is available.
Roster Size: Near Limitless
A character can only be in 20 groups at a time.
Public/Private Options available.

Groups are designed for casual players, for online communities such as the HiveWorkShop and other specific circles.
The Category Strategy and Coaching f.e. is for users that seek to share their latest strategy with other fellow players, while Online Communities is made for popular communities such as THW, wc3c.net, etc.
Finally, there is also a search option, allowing you to look for a group that appeals to you. Obviously, private groups will not show up in search results.

「Diamond Shape」

A new shape is now available in the Terrain Palette: Diamond.

「Data Navigator」

A new view, technically a new window, is now available in the Data Module: Data Navigator.
What it does is show the user everything that's connected to a unit, sound, animation, effect, etc.
It also has a small preview panel for selected items, such as showing a model in 3D and animated, or playing a sound.

Hosted Project -「Shadows of the Past」

Shadows of the Past, a hosted project of the HIVE maintained by former staff member -Kobas-, is a singleplayer RPG.
It features a beautiful and vast environment, an advanced UI, a lot of character customization options and more!
Its latest patch, 0.8.1.5, revamps the terrain, adds a new cinematic system along with new cutscenes and continues the main storyline!

The expansion will feature the zerg campaign, new units for each race, a revamped Battle.net UI and new Editor features!

Global Play, the feature that Diablo III already has, will be coming to Starcraft II in the coming months! The feature will allow you to play on other servers (North America, Europe, etc.) by simply changing your server and not having to reinstall/buy the game again for that specific region.
