It has been approximately a year since the release of StarCraft II and a lot has happened during that time. Many promising projects are making progress, many bugs and faults have been fixed, some regions have been merged and millions of players have joined in the fun. To show us that Blizzard is strongly intending to support the game for many years to come, they have also release a new patch.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Patch 1.3.6

Bug Fixes
  • General
    • Fixed an issue where using the Fun or Not system would sometimes cause players to be disconnected from the game.
    • Fixed an issue with the "Q" key being unusable in Mac's French Grid keyboard layout.
  • StarCraft II Editor
    • Fixed an issue that prevents using Value to set Player parameter in the Modify Player Property function.
    • Fixed an issue when using Unit Can Attack Unit Type function that could cause the game to become unresponsive.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Tools Update 2.1.2.2525
  • When downloading multiple patches concurrently, the launcher will now show the combined progress of all patches instead of showing the progress of each individual patch.
Although the patch only fixes some faults, it still helps improve the overall StarCraft II experience. If Blizzard keeps up this devotion during the many years to come, StarCraft II will end up truly an unbeatable gaming experience.

Today Blizzard Entertainments has blessed StarCraft II players with yet another patch. Although no balance changes were made, there are still a number of interesting changes.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Patch 1.3.5
General
  • Players from Europe and Russia will soon be able to play games together, add each other to their in-game friends list, and compete on the same ladder. For more information on region linking, please visit the official community site.
  • Several performance and memory improvements have been made.
  • "Player Left" messages will once again appear in replays.
  • The Hellion’s Infernal Pre-Igniter upgrade icon has been updated (now with more blue flames!).
StarCraft II Editor Improvements
  • UI errors will now go into a newly-created Error Display Message window.
  • Cooldowns shorter than ¼ of a second no longer display on the command card.
Among the note worthy is the region merger. People can look forward to more people to play with as well as more competitive top tier ladder. Blizzard might also do similar mergers on other regions (North and Latin America for example).

Additionally, we are promised that there have been several performance and memory improvements which are especially welcome for players with poor performing systems. The exact extent of these optimizations is not known and may go unnoticed by some with higher end systems but any performance gain is worthwhile in my eyes.

On a lesser note, Terran players using the Hellion unit should be aware of the art change for the "Infernal Pre-igniter" upgrade. Instead of red flames it now shows blue flames to match the visual effect the upgrade had on hellions.

Scars of Conflict is an altered melee project that is being developed by Bloodlust Studios, a modding team comprised of Linaze, Deolrin and Mr.Goblin, and with contributions from several other people. Scars of Conflict features 2 classic races, Orcs and Humans, fighting in an endless struggle for victory. Featuring classical units such as the Grunt, Footman, Peon and Elven Archer as well as completely new and unique units such as the Assassin, Ogre Mauler, Goblin Ace and Warlock, Scars of Conflict strives to be an exceptional altered melee while still maintaining some of the nostalgic feel from Warcraft 2. Player are to use a starting base consisting of a main building and 5 workers to expand their base, train troops, control gold mines, take over control points such as the Tower of Sight and ultimately defeat their opponents. Scars of Conflict also features naval combat, which is very important to the gameplay as bases are often separated by water and players must use Transport Ships to reach eachother. An effective way to make sure no one intrudes you is to have a powerful navy protecting your shores and attacking the enemy. Each techtree is unique; Unlike Warcraft 2, Scars of Conflict does not have 'clone units', which means that each unit is unique, and no two units are identical or incredibly similar. Most units have some kind of ability or research to further increase their efficiency in battle and their difference from other units. Scars of Conflict also introduces a unique gameplay element which we tend to call 'Control Points'. Those are neutral buildings that, when approached, come under the control of a player. An example for a control point is the Forest Sentinel. Once controlled, the sentinel protects the area in which it resides for you, allowing you to harvest gold and lumber without having to worry too much about invading enemies. Scars of Conflict also features various unique game mechanics, such as the Day\Night mechanic which causes units like the Assassin, Death Knight and the undead summoned by the Death Knight to be more powerful at night, and units like the Paladin and Cleric to be more powerful at day. This forces the player to plan their strategies according to the day\night cycle and might grant a player the game-winning advantage if used correctly... Or their demise if used incorrectly. To sum it all up, Scars of Conflict is an altered melee that strives to be unique by introducing many new units and game mechanics, while still being obviously based in the Warcraft 2 period in the Warcraft timeline by keeping many of the classical units from Warcraft 2.

  • A distinct and unique art style, created by our artist, Mr.Goblin.
  • Two unique techtrees that combine classical WC2 units with a twist, and completely new and unique units not featured in WC3 or WC2.
  • Naval warfare - Scars of Conflict will rely heavily on naval battles and often the only way to your enemy's base is through water.
    • Each race will feature at least one unique, never-seen-before naval unit such as the Flagship and the War Turtle, and both races will have differently designed and balanced navies. Players will have to counter eachother's navies in clever ways in order to achieve victory in sea, and then overcome eachother in one final battle for supremacy on land.
    • Naval units will often be supported by flying units such as the devastating Dragon or the proud Gryphon Rider in order to overcome the enemy's fleets. This places the player in a choice - should they get a powerful fleet or support their smaller fleet with the mighty terrors of the sky?
  • New, unique and balanced melee maps featuring ground-breaking terrainer made by our chief artist - Mr.Goblin.
  • Completely new spells created specifically for Scars of Conflict; No spellcaster in Scars of Conflict will have their old, outdated Warcraft II spellset but rather unique spells carefully designed and created by our dedicated team.
  • Control points - Fight for dominance over those neutral buildings in order to gain the slight advantage that might grant you your victory!

[reaction=http://sclegacy.com/forums/images/avatars/terranunits/adjutant.gif]Six months ago, a mod called "World of StarCraft", being developed by Creation, was made public. In spite of the many mods/maps out there carrying the title (one of them by Slaydon, a somewhat well-known member of our community), this one reached an unsuspected degree of popularity.
First of all, its promotion video was removed from YouTube on Activision demand under claim of copyright infringement. Then, the author was contacted by the Blizzard Deputy Council to discuss the details of the map, it seems they were afraid he was developing a stand-alone modification, but RyanWin, as he is also called, made sure to clarify that the map is being developed for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.
Earlier this week, a player-made StarCraft II mod called World of StarCraft and described as a “StarCraft MMO” was featured on a number of prominent gaming news sites, catching the attention of gamers as well as our own. With the name so closely resembling that of World of Warcraft, we wanted to discuss the title of the mod with the developer, and as part of our routine procedure, we contacted YouTube to request the video be removed while that discussion took place. We were also curious about the project and wanted to discuss with the developer what the mod entailed.

It was never our intention to stop development on the mod or discourage the community from expressing their creativity through the StarCraft II editor. As always, we actively encourage development of custom maps and mods for StarCraft II, as we’ve done with our strategy games in the past. That's why we release an editor with our RTS games, and why we feature top player-created content in the custom game search. It's also why we held a contest to spotlight the best community-crafted StarCraft II mods at last year's BlizzCon, and why we’ll continue to improve Battle.net to better showcase player-created content.

Like many players in the community, we’re looking forward to seeing the continued development of this mod, and as part of our ongoing discussion, we've extended an offer to the developer to visit the Blizzard campus and meet with the StarCraft II development team. As always, we appreciate all of the efforts of the talented and enthusiastic mod-making community, and we look forward to seeing and playing what they create using the StarCraft II editor in the future.
[/reaction]The day after, he was contacted by Riot Games (Los Angeles) for a position in game design. He was also contacted by various composers and programmers after that.
So the whole work has been renamed to "StarCraft Universe" under development of the SCU team (www.starcraftuniverse.org seems to be the official website), and a new trailer has just been released. I have never played World of WarCraft, but I've seen videos or screenshots and this trailer shows a gameplay that is quite close to WoW.

Just see it yourself!
