First of all, we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who's been following, commenting and supporting HoS. Honestly, the amount of feedback and input exceeded our expectations and inspired us to go on and on. Thank you, folks, you're awesome!

Now that the final release version of the first campaign is just around the corner, we're releasing a voiced cinematic trailer of Act I: Dusk of Draenor, featuring important story events that we have arranged as a homage to the original Warlords of Draenor trailer, as well as gameplay bits and pieces. Hope you enjoy it, and feel free to share your impressions in the trailer thread: Dusk of Draenor Campaign Trailer

Don't forget all what's shown in the trailer is already available in the current Public Beta, which can be downloaded here: The Heart of Storms: Dusk of Draenor (Public Beta)
But that's only half of the goodies, the other being the annoucement of Act II: Heralds of the Abyss! Dusk of Draenor's story continues in Azeroth as new heroes, villains and opportunistits join the conflict! Set during Warcraft I and II era, HotA features three more races: Humans, Dwarves (and Gnomes) and Goblins, which are already visually finished at the moment... but there's much more to come! Check out the first preview here: The Heart of Storms Act II: Heralds of the Abyss

And last but not the least... The Heart of Storms needs you! We're currently looking for more team members, and one speciality that's needed more than others is good ol' mapper. In particular, as we learned from feedback, there's a popular demand for a tutorial mission in the final release of Dusk of Draenor, but since our team has their hands full of Act I's expanded ending and first phase of Act II production at the moment, we don't have spare resources to divert to it (at least not at the expense of other stuff) and would welcome some help. You can learn more here: The Heart of Storms needs you!

Once again, folks, thanks for being with us! Look forward to more news!

It's been a month since Heart of Storms Act I: Dusk of Draenor Public Beta, and as the team is finalizing and polishing last bits of the Release version, they want to announce the next part!

Following Dusk of Draenor that culminates with the opening of the Dark Portal, Act II: Heralds of the Abyss is set during Warcraft I and II era, covering the last stages of the First War and the interbellum when the Horde expanded north into Khaz Modan. A number of canon events will be shown, such as the sacking of Northsire Abbey and Stormwind itself, the invasion of the Badlands, the siege of Ironforge and the climactic battle at Tol Barad. However, in a manner similar to Act I, "historical" events will be shown through the eyes of original characters caught in the conflict and trying not only to survive, but to manipulate its flow.

The story of Arnak Bladeweaver continues as more of his agenda is revealed (and keen-eyed players who noticed a few clues in Act I may have their theories confirmed). Don't expect this to be an orc-centered campaign despite the Horde being an integral part of the story - Arnak's status as a clanless orc makes him seek some unlikely allies.

In addition to Orcs and Ogres (sadly not Draenei, their story in HoS is over... for now), Act II: Heralds of the Abyss brings three more full-scale races to the table: Humans, Dwarves (and Gnomes) and Goblins.

Greetings community!
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming addition of a highly requested feature to our resource database - the Grid View! This new feature will allow users to easily browse and discover resources in rich and visually appealing manner. We hope this update will enhance your experience on our website and we can't wait for you to try it out. We look forward to hear your feedback.

We are also announcing the implementation of a new moderation system. As demonstrated below you can see that we've separated the moderation system into two groups: Moderator Rating and Moderation Status.

You may be asking "Why do we need this?" and the answer is complicated. The resource sections have two kinds of visitors: the modder and the artist. The modder is on the look out for resources and more often than not they would rather have more choice and be the judge of what they don't want to see. I invision they will often tick all the boxes in "Rating" to see everything from "lacking" to "director's cut". Meanwhile the artist cares a lot about quality and filtering. I've met many artists who care deeply about quality of peer resources compared to their own. They don't want to see resources lacking in quality next to their stuff while the modder would very much like to see as much as possible. Not every resource has to be insanely great. Sometime all you need is a doodad for standing in the background needing zero interaction, animation or detail. But from my experience we need to distinguish between excellent and simple things to keep the artists satisfied while giving as much choice as possible to the modder.

Now. The skeptical modder is sitting here thinking "Gosh, Ralle, more checkboxes to tick every time?" and the answer is yes. But one thing I plan to release with the grid view is the ability to make persistent filters per section. So if you always look at icons in grid view, it will stay that way. If you always look at all ratings in models, it will stay that way. When this comes out, I also plan to make useful / simple ticked by default.

Moderator Rating (1-5)
Similar to User Star Ratings (1-5), the Moderator Rating system is designed to recognize and award the most creative and talented artists, map makers, programmers etc. The introduction of this new rating system is expected to benefit both creators and users. Users will be able to find high quality assets based on a qualified moderator assessment of resources, while creators will get the recognition they deserve for sharing their creations with Warcraft III community.

Notice that High Quality ratings will be given out gradually to new and re-moderated assets.

Moderation Status:

These states indicate whether or not a resource is approved (working ingame), pending review, awaiting update or rejected.

Warcraft 3 players rejoice! The wait is over! Patch 1.35 has finally been released and it is packed with exciting new features and improvements!

This patch includes some long-awaited features such as Custom Campaigns, Map Pool updates, Leaderboard fixes, Season Roll updates, and a major balance update. This patch is going to be a big deal for the Warcraft 3 community as it brings back fan-favorite features as well as opens up new possibilities for players and modders to push the boundaries of what is possible in the game. One of the most notable additions in this patch is the reintroduction of custom campaigns, which allows players to create their own unique scenarios and story-lines. This feature was highly requested by the community and its return is sure to be a hit among map creators.

But that's not all, the patch also includes various bug fixes, balance changes and performance improvements that will make the game smoother and more enjoyable for many players. Overall, patch 1.35 is a significant step towards restoring Warcraft 3 and it's exciting to see the game continue to be supported and developed even after all these years. Players are encouraged to download the patch and start exploring the new features and improvements for themselves. Please post your feedback and experience with the latest update. Let the development team know that we are watching closely. See the list of some of the Known Issues at the bottom of this page, and report any other you find.

Finally, the patch includes a number of bug fixes, addressing long-standing issues that have been plaguing the game for years. This includes fixes for crashes, desyncs, and other technical problems that have been affecting players and map makers.

While far from perfect (considering patch 1.33 and 1.34) the release of patch 1.35 is a promising sign that Warcraft III has not been forgotten by Blizzard Entertainment and that the company is still committed to supporting the game. This is great news for the dedicated community of players who have stuck with the game through the years and will give new hope that the game will continue to be supported in the future. Patch 1.35 is a major update that will bring a renewed sense of excitement to the Warcraft III community.

If you're a map creator who has been away from the game for a while, now is the perfect time to get back into it. The release of patch 1.35 has breathed new life into the game and has opened up new opportunities for map creators to showcase their work. So dust off your World Editor, start creating and be a part of the Warcraft III community once again.

Overall, the release of patch 1.35 is great news for map creators, and it gives them the motivation they need to start creating new campaigns and maps, and share them with the community - which are always looking for new and exciting maps and campaigns to play.

The Warcraft III community is eager to see what you can create, so don't miss this opportunity to show your skills and talents.

  • The Leaderboard will now update correctly.

Balance

This balance update began with a wide range of changes the team wished to test – some more experimental than others. Our approach to this patch was to first take a look at various community feedback with the goal of diversifying strategy and reducing frustration. We then watched and read a community posts, and we played a great deal of multiplayer matches on the ladder with player feedback in mind. We then analyzed game data.

To find out what ultimately would work, we put many changes into a PTR build as early as possible, and then playtested and calibrated further.

Regarding the Siege Engine rework, we wished to experiment with giving the unit an alternative role other than merely killing buildings (in 1v1). Ultimately, it ended up overlapping too much with other Human units, and due to the loss of its Fortify armor, became less unique. We may revisit the Siege Engine at another time.

We want to thank all the community members who put their time and energy into providing feedback during the PTR. We read your online posts and watched your videos, and found it all very helpful.
