The latest news are not news anymore so I felt the urge to write some news.

The maps system is about to change and these are the changes:

Actual moderation of a map will be cut to a minimum. The moderator will make a very quick check that the map is not violating any rules and then it will be approved/rejected. This means we are cutting out most of the quality checking from moderation, which is not good.

To patch this "not good" a few things will change. The moderator rating will disappear, the review will likely disappear unless the moderator needs to tell the submitter something (why it was rejected for example).
Maps will then get a second rating. The rating based on reviews. It will work like this:
Anybody can write a review (actually just a post) and give the map a rating, and if a moderator finds that this review along with the rating seems valid, he will mark the post as a review which means that the users rating will be counted in this new rating. As more reviews for a map appear, the rating will be based on those too, just like normal ratings but they will only count in the new rating if the post is marked as being a review.
When this system gets more in use, I will start sorting the maps list to show maps which has a high review-rating before worse maps.

This will require the help of users in moderation of maps and if you think your review is good and you want a moderator to mark it as a valid review, you can contact a map moderator.

So why are we doing this?
1. We want to cut the map queue substantially.
2. We don't have time to write reviews for every single map, but we should have time to mark a usermade review as a valid review.

So what have I done so far:
- I have given mods the ability to mark posts as reviews so the rating by the post submitter will be added to the review-rating.
- I have attempted to show the users rating below his post in map listings (this is a bit buggy, I dunno why).

Things I need to do to make all this work:
- Sorting maps differently to prefer maps with better ratings.
- Actually display the review rating.
- Convert moderator reviews and ratings to normal posts and ratings being marked as review.
- Give the user the ability to see if his post is marked as a review.

As many of you know I am working on a complete rewrite of The Hive Workshop.

At first I thought of a forum structure similar to the current one, with more separated game sections and resource sections for each game. This would be a good way of continuing the current hive... But now I am thinking otherwise. I wanna deal with the site from a whole new approach.

Facebook is popular because it is extremely social and you can express your feelings in so many ways. I am thinking about taking some of the concepts from Facebook and implementing them on THW.
People should be able to become fans of projects, maps and various other submissions.
Instead of showing peoples reputation count, we will be displaying their amount of friends instead.
We will have the option to "Like" certain events, resources, maps and users.
The chat will be embedded on every single page so you always can get in touch with all other online users.

You could call it HiveBook but I think our current name will suffice.

I am already working on it and I like what I see...

UPDATE: After the 1st of april I don't think this is a good idea anymore

After investigating the extreme overload on the server hosting THW we have finally found out what was the cause and fixed it.

You shouldn't get any more server busy messages unless something is very wrong.

For those interested the problem lies in a database table containing cached searches for the resource sections. A cached search is deleted after 60 seconds but after months of deleting searches without using the optimize function of MySQL the table was 900 MB big which is a lot for a table containing 100 rows at peak times. A single select query took >5 seconds to run. After an optimize it ran fine again. We have added a optimize query to the daily scheduled tasks so it should never happen again.
