@Rence Kristoff
Depends on how far I wanna take the scope.
Ideally I would want to have a larger map to try to play around more with heights. Was considering creeps undergound but realized I had no space for that.

Thanks :3 I still need to work on it though. I think I nailed the height stuff but it still looks empty.

Triggers is only a tool you can use to achieve certain game mechanics. So it's all up to you how you imagine your map to work.
Noone will force you to use advanced codes. Sometimes a few lines of simple code can do magics already.
I'm just saying that making a 100% normal map with total same gameplay as a wc3 melee map would for me personaly not get full score for inovative gameplay for example.

Hmm, I think should work on the terrain first. I will think about the triggers later. However, I've no ideas about triggers beacause my skills on the terraining, are more than making triggers!

I applied a few changes to my maps' terrain:

What is your opinions, guys?

I would say it is ok.
  • Your submission may not be started/made before the official launch of the contest.
This rule is there so that people don't start with their submission before the contest starts (which was not possible this time, as it started as soon as the theme poll ended). As long as you don't take a previous project, and changes the terrain or story to be fitting the theme "ghastly", you are all good.

I would like more peoples thoughts about this though, as I consider creating another part of my project (Warden) as a submission for this contest. A part of it (the systems and general UI) will stay the same, but the story, terrain and the in-game events such as puzzles, quests and battles will all be new. I would say it is kinda in the greyzone of this rule, but I think it should work. Any thoughts?

If it will be "Ghastly" and totally or not totally different, I think you should consider, double as a submission and addition maybe.

My original thinking was that if you can import a system or custom model/icon/texture into your map from the Hive's resources (and credit them), you must be able to use your own stuff. Something like warden is really just a collection of systems and UI elements that work together.

I suppose in this era of WC3 modding, people don't really do things completely from scratch anymore, but maybe that's a lie? :p

It will be as different as the other maps are from each other. A little more actually, since this will be a more open map, rather than a dungeon. :)
And yeah, Ghastly will defenitely be the theme. I will go for cursed islands, where a powerful necromancer imprisons his foes.

And yeah, Ghastly will definitely be the theme. I will go for cursed islands, where a powerful necromancer imprisons his foes.
The idea is awesome, totally different. Will its controls be like Warden's? You can choose not to answer, it might spoil it.:p

E: V Go for it,I already look forward to it. :D

I don't know if making an extension to an already existing campaign should be allowed. In my mind, the contest is about making something new and daring. Using a pre-established gameplay isn't innovative enough in the context of a mini-mapping contest. As you say it will be "another warden map" and that's a shame. Don't misunderstand me, I love your Warden maps - they are all very good - but for the contest it would be nice to play something that doesn't feel like an extension but a stand alone map.

Anyway, that's just my idea of what the contest should be and I won't mind much if you make another Warden map as I love them

Altered Melee Maps are pre-established gameplay usually... and i think they're 100% fine for this. But an extension of something already existing is maybe a bit much, could it be standalone for the purposes of the contest (and then afterwards make it a part of Warden).

Mine is coming along nicely, spent a few hours today. The terrain is still non-existent and the only indicator of "ghastly" are the Warcraft lore characters i'm using, but over half (i hope ;P) of the key triggers are in place so all i need to do now is make all the object data (wave units, hero abilities, items etc.) and triggers specific for heroes and waves. Saving terrain for last. Will probably post a WIP tomorrow when i do some more on it!

I'm done with terrain attempts, this is my presumably final terrain:

In the middle are mountain king, mortar team, zombie and witch doctor. They are picked in draft-mode kind of manner, because they are like rock paper and scissor (3=4 ikr). Same one can be picked how many times you want.

You <re>spawn instantly at your team (2 teams). You get souls from killing someone else. You get bonus stats from collected souls. I hope death and souls are enough to fulfill theme (I rly got nothing beside this, I've never finished a map idk why).
