Create a model of a unit riding a mount or vehicle of your choice. Classic submissions only.

The mount can be anything, as long as it handles all the displacement for the rider.

other_rules_and_conditions-png.311513

  • No submission may violate any of the site rules.
  • All submissions must follow the current theme. If any model does not fit, a moderator will tell you as soon as possible as to avoid confusion.
  • The bundle containing your final submission must also contain the following:
    • An in-game screenshot showing your submission in action.
    • Any additional effects you might have made.
  • You may upload icons to accompany your submission in its bundle. They will not be judged - only your submission itself will be.
  • You must show at least one unfinished preview of your submission, before the deadline, as proof that it's yours.
  • Your submission may not be started/made before the official launch of the contest. This includes any animation, meshes, or textures made by other users before the official launch of the contest and material made by users not participating in the contest.

  • Judges may not participate.
  • Your final submission must work in-game and be bug-free.
  • Teamwork is allowed for up to two people.
  • Must contain the following animations, and more if possible:
    • Stand
    • Walk
    • Death
    • Portrait Animations (whether it's for a camera or a separate portrait model)
  • Structures must include Birth animation
  • Heroes must include Dissipate animation
  • Feel free to ask if you have any questions regarding the rules.
If a submission does not follow the model submission rules the creator will be disqualified.
Breaking any of these rules may lead to punishment in the judgement score, up to disqualification from the contest, depending on the weight of the issue. In case of doubts towards a certain rule, you are very encouraged to discuss it in the contest thread so others and judges may help with sorting it out.

Mesh
How does the mesh look aesthetically? How are its proportions, its balance and scale? How coherent is polygon distribution?/15

Skin
How good is the wrap? Are custom textures appealing? How adequate are the in-game chosen textures? Are they blurry/stretched? Do the tones go well together?/15

Animations
How natural, smooth and appropriate are the animations? If they're custom, how well are they executed? Do they have physical coherence? Do they have character/personality? If they are imported, how appropriate was the animation choice? How hard is it to relate it to the original in that case?/15

Effects
How adequate are the particle/ribbon/etc effects? Do they contribute to the model? Are they impressive? Are they added in good measure? Did the model need more?/15

Theme
How well does the model fit the theme? Is there a clear distinction between the rider and the vehicle/mount?/15

Mechanics
How well does the model work in-game? Are the animations recognizable in-game? Does it feature attachments/footprints/collisions/etc? Is it fully selectable?/10

Creativity
How original is the general idea? How inventive is the execution?/15

/100

  • Judgement: 70%
  • Poll: 30%

Oh heck yeah, this's gonna be good. Mounted units are eminently useful & very cool.

CLASSIC FTW.

Anyway, if anyone is waffling on this, consider that @Retera 's excellent Matrix Eater tool, unlike Magos or MdlVis or anything else, can be used to easily combine two models (complete with animations!).

Also, if anyone needs help theorycrafting a mounted Jungle Troll unit, well... You know who to call. ; )

@Mythic Is Dissipate anim necessary? For example If I make a unique death anim (Like the UD Lich and Dreadlord)

If it's a hero you should still include a dissipate animation, the examples you mentioned still have a dissipate animation even if nothing is happening in them. I guess its obligatory for the game.

Does anything besides the model itself account for judging?
For example Icons for it?[/Spoiler]

@Maximal Only the model will be judged.
Nice skeletal hound. :)

You didn't say that you can't upload one alongside it. While it's true that i only judge the model, there is no rule that forbids adding an corresponding icon. :ogre_hurrhurr:

Quite right :)

WIP #3:

Sentient clouds count as a mount, right? :)
Since pandarens are supposedly based on Chinese culture, figured I might attempt this legendary figure, but panda.
oh my gosh I've been waiting for this one forever. A Pandaren Monk, enlightened to such a degree he can walk through the air on the clouds?? Heck yeah. I had this idea years ago but never got around to making it happen.
