Idea should be really simple, I just don't know why you find it complicated, maybe I described it poorly, yes I know to do that...
Cute :p
Anyway I've rethought the whole thing... I love it now.
But I guess that all of you guys understand what need to be done now :D
It's nice to see another users join contest.

Small terrain preview for now from me as well.

Mine story is different, your character find himself in strange house (Basement to be precise). There are few puzzles waiting to be solves so you can get out to another room, but to make things worse there are magic runes that allow your character to move to another dimension (Shadow world), same house (rooms) but things are now much worse, music, lightning, even sounds and units, grrr :)

reminds me of silent hill 4. Even so, i want to see it finished, looks like a nice concept and your terrain so far is epic :D

here is another wip, now from inside the cript. I never created one before, but im enjoying the results ^^

Ahh then mine will be more different to the others.
I have worked hard to perfect my terrain and am starting on the game play but have changed to a new idea:).
This game may have more than one kind off game play and will be mysterious so I shall not tell much other than having prof that the game that I am making is for sure mine :) heres a WIP and also I might not be here for the next 2 days....
Also considering I have way more time than the last contest my map will be done to perfection :)
Also I need to come up with a proper name:D
Also to tell that the map will fit both themes (Puzzle & Mystery) but does need multi player to test a couple of things.

Well here I am.
And i gonna try to pwn the Topic, even if neither my Jass skills nor my english is good. xD

Have Fun and Good Luck everybody!

Kobas the gameplay in yours is a little lack-luster and hard to understand, honestly. I can't target any object except for the book.
Because you didn't found bottle (check top near stairs).
And cheese near bottom in box :)

Give cheese to rat and...

Anyway I created arrow key movement system and 2 more rooms :)
Damn I worked 3 hours today on it.

Kobas, i tested your map while im extremely lazy to continue work on mine ;D

well, i think you create some kind of point and click map right? if this is the case, i suggest that you put hotkeys for the "move" and "interact" skills, because its really annoying have to click in the skill and then move to wherever you like.

I dont really know how to exit the basement. Basically i hate point and click games :D
also, the gnome simple disappear when i try to do anything. I give to him my book, and he vanish with it :D
i dont know if this is your intention, but when i take the empty bottle, the light also disappear. And the cheese was really hard to find.

this is all the things that bother me while playing, some are personal preferences anyway. The terrain looks believable and detailed. i just cant leave the damn basement and continue the journey.

nice work so far, i fear that i will need some time before i can release a demo too. =/

Unfortunately, I did. I couldn't seem to get the cheese or the bottle. They didn't work, I drag selected them to find them, then tried to interact with them and nothing happened.

Well goblin drop key before he disappear :D
Pick key and leave :D
But once when you reach door, game will end :D
BECAUSE IT'S DEMO :p

xD I really like the development of the game, but the interface looks like "unfinished" I had several problems to find the exit of the room.
If you can see the door is better, and also a message like "-The door is locked, I have to find a key" would be necesary.

The chesse it's to hard to find, I was puting the mouse in every where of the screen to find any object, and finally I escaped the room, but I think the conversation with the the goblin goes too fast.

And also I recomend you to put something like a shine effect in every object (To make easy find it.).

Already done in current version :D
Thanks for testing btw :)

Ok I'm having somewhat progress in my map :) but it's a bit messy and doesn't work totally but it's worth me uploading and someone testing :)...
I have a good feeling about my map:D
good thing is that it does have some good things working and I also edited the terrain so now it suits my needs :)
Also if possible can about 3 people play this together to test my map, It will be greatly appreciated for some feed back if so =)

Yeah, I've been trying to think something up too, then if I do get the time then I can make something.
I was thinking to make some kind of mysterious mini-RPG where you're a zombie in a abandoned town/city and have no idea what's going on. However I'm having trouble deciding how it starts, how it ends, and how I'm gonna keep it short (preferably under an hour of gameplay).

Still, if I miss out on the comp I can just make it as full-sized map, that way I can add more stuff to it too.

All users speak about RPG, only RPG, but to be honest no one still didn't created one.
It would be nice to see some rpg where you are bad guy :)
Zombie in your case, you need to serve masters and kill good guys :)

lol we all know how rpg works, pick good guy and kill bad ones, it would be nice to see things from another side.
Cool idea buddy.

Thanks.
About the whole "good guy bad guy" thing, yeah I'm not planning to do that. I might put in a few neutrals, but yeah, I'm gonna see if I can make the majority puzzle-based, since that's what the competition's about.

Well, this is what I've got so far.
A bland unfinished terrain, and a camera and movement system that need to be improwed.
So here is my WIP for the sake of posting a WIP.

If you can't figure out what you want to do, I'd suggest terraining the map first, if you have a general idea of what setting you want for the game (City, Forest, etc.)

Just as a side note.
Remember that doing the terrain is always the best thing to do and edit it through the maps development to make it fit the game play more unless your thinking of the ideas that the game play requires more of a unique idea that meaning the game being done in bits and eventually working into on at the end of development.

i take a look on you map. using elevator wall as walls hah ? i did the same thing, but in a different way. the problem is , i can see the elevator walls from behind, and of course they are not two sided. also the knight movement looks unnatural, instead of doing the animation from the beginning to end, he just do it for 1 second or such.

the camera system works fine , and the movement too(except for the animation)

seeing the game from that angle its a good idea, i cant imagine how you are gonna do the puzzles , and thats the reason why im so curious right now ;D
keep up the good work:goblin_good_job:

DeathChef

unfortunately i cant really test your map without more people, i just take a look. Well , your sistem is really easy to understand, easy to play, the camera follow the character perfectly, and the terrain is really good too :D
looks promising :D

@Ahmitar
It means no maps which are solely cinematics but you can create an intro cutscene inside the map to explain the situation, story etc.

@Figueiredo
Well thanks for the feedback.
And I've fixed the movement, it had a 0.05 periodic event instead of a 0.5. :p

The Reason why I got so many doodads is because the actual terrain is made of them.

wow, i want to see your terrain finished

i have 600 doodads right now, but im in just in the beginning. maybe in the end it will be something around 2000 .

right now im trying to solve one problem with the cinematic skip trigger, for some reason when i skipped one of them, the game crashes, and i took 3 hours to discovery that the reason for it was in the first 5 seconds of the intro ¬¬

Kays, i really like the terrain :D and the effect of the shaman entering the dungeon as well.
