Those here glows should be made available on the thread, just to make things a bit more even.
*sniff*My hero was just the mess-around fun of a single evening, and I don't think it should be reason for you to have to change what you were doing. Seeing this, I could probably just make another hero for a different race or something.
Well, not necessarily... I bet you could darken the model with tinting, use the Crypt Fiend/Lord soundset, and perhaps find some doodad models (seaweed?) to attach to the arms/torso to look like bandages... Could work... Maybe.Damn. I shall use another model.
Not bad... Though you may want to watch out, using the Demon Hunter model, since that's already used. Heck, the Campaign Illidan model would still fit & be better (demonic -> demon -> shadow). Perhaps.http://postimg.org/image/jf2u72zxd/
this is my shadowy hero still in progress though
Huh, I suppose I can clarify that in the Rules... With the parenthetical ("Chest, Weapon, etc"), I was hoping to indicate that any number of Hero Glow model(s) could be used for one's submission (of course, more than 2-3 would probably be overkill); this more accurately mimics the behavior of Hero Glow in regular Warcraft 3 Heroes (usually one big HG on the Origin, and a smaller HG on the Weapon... sometimes another smaller HG on the Chest as well).Contest rules question:
Thinking about this contest, I made some hero glow models and tried sticking them on things. I'm sure this has already been done, but my question is how many different hero glow models we might be allowed to import for one entry. It says in the rules "A custom "Hero Glow" model (Chest, Weapon, etc) for use in making Unit models into better-fitting Hero models." But, what if we wanted to use 2 models?
For example, all of the glowing units in the attached pictures were accomplished with only 2 models per unit. Almost every single unit has the exact same glow ability, except for 3 or so that have a modified version with a bigger glow.
Yeah, totally. Retera, would you mind sharing? : )Those here glows should be made available on the thread, just to make things a bit more even.

To be honest, I was starting to set something like that up... But I simply cannot with the time I've got. I'd love to see one if someone else wanted to whip one up; if it looks alright, I'll even keep it on the 2nd post.Is there a contestant list yet?

Can I be a judge? Unfortunately, it's rather unlikely for new users to judge. We have no proof of your actual experience.I am new at Hive and i'd like to help by judging, i am new so i guess, objective, and i visit hive workshop from more time than i registered, i don't know how it goes so i chose to put a message^^
For judge, we should post at pastebin ^)^You should attach your entry to the post, not pastebin.
For judge, we should post at pastebin ^)^
BTW, we still don't have any judge. Better start to look for them.
When the hero is complete, submit it to the Pastebin with the prefix [HERO7] and send me a private message with a link to the Pastebin thread.
Aks Kyrbi0 ^^ Yup, submission rules are over complicated, why no just follow the other contests' rule? See the highlighted text above, it's non sense.
(I've been searching & thinking all week for a 'movie moment' to illustrate my point... But alas, it has not come)You mean...something like this?
I've been working on this for some time; maybe I should have made an earlier post to warn people not to go to the trouble themselves.
If I missed a WIP post, please do say something. I did my best but it's very possible I overlooked someone's.
~~~
Also, I'm gonna... install wc3, and then probably figure out what I'm going to do for a machinist hero for the Human race.
That might be necessary. Thank you for offering; I'd like several.I might join as a judge if you are still looking for me.
Sounds interesting but, like the others, remember that this is a "regular Wc3-styled" Hero Contest, so having a one-Proper-Name, singular/unique Hero is a little out of place & might hurt you in the Judging.Cranneg Hurgarsson - The Bombardier
Cranneg wasn't always an aggressive dwarf, he fancied the simple life, drinking and gambling. One day the scourge was approaching fast and the awesome Paladins rode into town, looking for specialists. Cranneg felt threatened by the approaching undead so he joined the fight, and soon found himself captain of the motors and tanks.
Still think the entry should be attached to the post, it has been done so in every other contest so far afaik.
Using the pastebin is just annoying, a post allows for better presentation (when the poll comes) and is permanent unlike the pastebin.
I don't understand why the pastebin mumbo jumbo is even in the rules since sending a link to the post with your final entry produces the same effect lol.
Many things have been done in this Contest that are different from previous Contests (or even other (such as Zephyr) Contests), and that is intentional. I am of the firm belief that while things may have "worked" in the past, there's no reason not to try & improve. At the very least some more rigor & rationality can (& has) be(en) applied.So far the final entry used to be counted as the last post containing your map or the post with you saying it's your final entry.
Also afaik Zephyr even states you MUST provide a screenshot of your entry in that post which is just not possible with pastebin.
That's a point that was made earlier, and something I think makes a lot of sense (especially since Hero Names might happen more than once (*cough* Archdruid... *cough*), but User NamesKingz said:And imo a contestant name should be in the map name, not the hero name since it makes more sense and makes it easier for the judge and poll voters.
Why the heck should we do that? :/When the hero is complete, submit it to the Pastebin with the prefix [HERO7] and send me a private message with a link to the Pastebin thread.
Well, you may not have noticed, but IHero Contests are not heavily affected by coding (unlike Zephyr), but your table is missing such a criterion. Please, update it, after consulting previous Hero Contest threads.
Good point. Still, everyone's submission will be downloaded & taken care of long before they could change, and all the Submissions will be available (in terms of "long-term archiving") in the Voting thread, am I right?Pharaoh said:Regarding the Pastebin, no matter whether a contestant sets it to 'forever', it's still subject to change in the future. Thus, we're unable to retrieve records of the submissions; they should only be attached on posts.
Ah, that's what you were talking about. Yeah, I believe that was there because on Wc3C, the Host was usually a Mod or Admin, so they could see all the Pastebin threads made & could grab them easily (so they didn't have you PM it to them, just use the "[HERO7]"). That's a good example of a hold-over from those Rules that I copy-pasta'd without too much thought; it has been removed. Thank you.Pastebin thingy is okay. But just remove this one:
Why the heck should we do that? :/
Well, you may not have noticed, but Ihavehad given "Coding" an entire table of it's own, with it's own set of Criteria... Since both were meant to be involved in the "final judging", not sure what you mean.
However, you raise an issue I was struggling with & help me resolve it: Hero Contests are not primarily about Coding (at least, this one isn't). So I have removed the "separate Coding Criteria" table & incorporated "Coding" into the main Criteria table. Hopefully that appeases everyone.
Good point. Still, everyone's submission will be downloaded & taken care of long before they could change, and all the Submissions will be available (in terms of "long-term archiving") in the Voting thread, am I right?
I agree.Yes, this looks better; everything that has to be judged should be on the table, it's friendlier to the judge and the contestants alike.
Yeah, I understood & agree with that. "This one isn't" was merely an aside; when we get the eventual "Team-Based" Hero Contest going, that will require a few changes to the Criteria (primarily having 1 table for Coding, 1 for Art, and 1 for Design, since two people will be doing both Design, but one each for Art & Coding).Pharaoh said:Indeed, I did not say that it's primarily about coding (I think I made it clear, so as to avoid such a comment), but "this one isn't" is not valid.
True true. Hopefully what I have written reflects that (and if not, let me know).Pharaoh said:We could modify the table to fit the thematic needs, but coding is a constant, because this is the nature of this contest. Plus, if a hero violates the Spells submissions rules, it may lead to disqualification (examples would be a buggy skill(set), plain Object Editor work, insufficient code, etc. - all of them are influenced by the coding criterion).
Not sure I understand... Basically we only need the Pastebin for a little bit. Once the Contest is over we create the Poll (i.e. Voting thread) & I'll attach a .zip with all the entrant's maps in it, for everyone to download & test.Pharaoh said:As for the pastebin, not really - the submissions are linked, they are not attached again.
