A well made remake. The only downside of the work is that it feels too much like a Warcraft III imitation (gameplay mechanics, factions, universe, techtrees etc.) but there's definitely some you in there. Approved. If you want more reviews, you...

  1. Terrain looks quite good with well noticed creativity in some places.
  2. In chapter 1, there's a lack of permanent items for the hero inventory. Chapter 2 is better in this aspect only because you start with 2 items.
  3. A bit too much on the gnoll genocide.
  4. Spiders seem to have their own road neighbourhood rather than some cave complex or forest.
  5. Peons don't mine when you reach the northeastern encampment.
  6. Harg is not a hero but has a hero model.
  7. Definitely not a fan of linearity in the form of trees going down suddenly.
  8. During the scene with Lord Scarlet, he and his goons are teal, not red.
  9. Interestingly, Desiderious' hideout wasn't fortified at all, being more of a sort of outdoor treasure or dump room.
  10. One could think: "this one creator does really hate gnolls." Chapter 4: yet another canine genocide.
  11. Technically, the orcs are not surrounded, at least not by the elves and humans but more by gnolls.
  12. The blue gnoll optional quest ping in the southwest doesn't disappear after quest completion if you destroy that base first instead of the northwestern one.
  13. Think there are two Blademaster heroes, Rokaro and Kuzakami but each with different spells. Funny thing is the first actually has an axe and would fit into Gash's Axemaster category.
  14. IMO, Malkork is too much an important and present character not to be a hero.
  15. Finally, no more doggiecide.
  16. Healing Water's description when on ground says it creates a Great Hall.
  17. Gash doesn't say much of anything during the talk about the bridge (maybe he was feeling really ill). Trycex doesn't say anything about him.
  18. In chapter eight in the north base there's a player owned racoon. One near the river blocked by rocks too in the orange base. Oh wait, this is intentional, there's numerous critters around the map, xD
  19. Harembe's Wrath's buff icon should not look passive.
A well made remake. The only downside of the work is that it feels too much like a Warcraft III imitation (gameplay mechanics, factions, universe, techtrees etc.) but there's definitely some you in there.

Approved.

  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.

Thought I would add some notes I wrote down from when I played this campaign:

Intro
Love the custom music playing when it shows that small island at the start talking about gods.
Pretty cool how time passes in the opening, so it goes from 1st king Theomund to 4th king in a short period.
Don't feel bad for the Orcs being wiped out, when they started the war by attacking the Humans.

Ch1
Cool custom spells.
Spearthower heard screams from the area his warriors went to check but didn't bother to see if they were his troops in trouble?
Smell... wet dog... nice touch considering it was raining during the cutscene with the Gnolls.
Maybe slow down XP rate for the hero. I was max level for this mission by the time I finished the first murloc camp we come across after we meet the Gnolls initially.
Maybe disable pillage if we can't use it on our hero yet (no base building = no pillage).

Ch2
Funny interactions with goblins.
Crash related to the demi hero's aoe stun spell. I know it has been mentioned before. Pretty sure it is an issue that has been changed for 1.31+. One suggestion to fix it is to make sure none of the spells values are 0 (so if you have casting time, duration of spell, etc, make them above 0, and make sure casting time is always larger than duration of spell, if there is a duration of spell value in the object editor for that spell).
The Undead wave was quite tough at the end, especially since the ranged unit had slow poison which kept slowing my Hero down.
I like how the end cinematic showed my Hero and units crossing the bridge, when in reality I sacrificed all the non-essential units to buy myself enough time to get across the bridge.

Ch3
2 invisible buildings in the Murloc camp North of the Gnolls we kill at the south west part of the map (maybe a 1.32+ visual bug).
Found another invisible building near the barrel that drops gold coins north of the previous 2.
I really like how the main Fel hero just has passive spells. He is very powerful.

Ch4
Nice 1v7. Would be cool if the terrain could be tweaked to forces the Gnolls and Humans who come to attack your base to come across each other more often, so they can fight each other.

Ch5
Good to see the humans being shown as the good guys too despite them being out enemy (the Heroes who were against torturing the Orc).
The Gnoll ally vs item choice was really tough, since the Gnoll was not bad to us, which made killing him to get the item feel very bad morally. In the end, item choices are always better for late game though, so I chose that.

Ch6
Only purple and yellow pushed out, other allies were useless, unless they were supposed to just defend.

Ch7
What was plot point behind Gash being poisoned / constantly losing levels throughout the mission?
Creative to make the final stand part just units, no heroes.

Ch8
Another interesting no-hero mission.
Coal Legion was a tough fight. I had to wait for them to send a wave of air units at my base and then I struck him while he didn't have a full army to defend his base with.

General points
This campaign was designed really well, both RTS and RPG missions. The terrain was also fantastic and creative, making me feel like each mission was very fresh. Had a lot of fun playing it.
Currently, I think part 2 of this campaign has some kind of imported model/icon that is causing the campaign to be unplayable on 1.32+ (not sure why it won't work on 1.32+, since almost every other campaign is forwards compatible outside of exceptions like using memory hack, third party world editors, etc). Hopefully in the future, that will change, so I can find out how the story continues.

Hi tulee! Thanks for your extensive feedback. I am glad you liked it :) I will respond to the points I think need clarification.

One suggestion to fix it is to make sure none of the spells values are 0 (so if you have casting time, duration of spell, etc, make them above 0, and make sure casting time is always larger than duration of spell, if there is a duration of spell value in the object editor for that spell).
Thanks for the suggestion! I will try this during the next update and hopefully this will fix the bug.

Only purple and yellow pushed out, other allies were useless, unless they were supposed to just defend.
It is true that the other allies are only for the defense. They do not move out, but they do have a larger defensive force. This enables you and your allies to attack the undead relative unhindered, as you do not need a large defense yourself.

What was plot point behind Gash being poisoned / constantly losing levels throughout the mission?
The idea behind it was to make Gash weaker so the map would be harder to complete. If I hadn't done that, Gash would have been level 8. With those skills, he could wipe out enemy attack waves all by himself.

I needed to scale him down with a plausible explanation (not just scaling him down randomly). To summarize: there is no plot point, but a gameplay point behind this

I hope this bug will be fixed in the future, but I do not know what causes this. As far as I know, the models and icons have been imported the correct way  Maybe you can switch to another patch if you want to play part two?

Hi pedeng!

I do not plan to remake part two (although I do not exclude reworking some things if necessary). I think part two looks much more like part one reworked than the original part one. But, I can't speak for the players of course

The easiest way to find out is to play it

Even if you do not plan on remaking Part2, would you consider deleting all the duplicate models, skins, icons, etc that you have in the individual map files of Part2 so all the resources are in the campaign import, instead of being in both campaign import and the individual map import? You did that with your Part1 remake. If all files were just in campaign folder, instead of in both areas, it would make it easier to identify what model file is causing Part2 to crash for post 1.31 wc3 versions when playing your campaign.

Also keep in mind, in my opinion, the chance of assets causing unknown crashes on 1.31+ increases highly when you start using resources that have not been uploaded through the resource section on hive/gone through the checks those resource mods examine before approving a resource. So, when you go to ask people to make simple edits or make icons for your specific project, those resources could be unknowingly causing those crashes. Right now, I can only think of 1 asset on hiveworkshop which went through the resource section but still causes crashes on 1.31+. So, if you just stick with resources downloaded from the resource section, I doubt this problem will happen in the future if you choose to make more campaigns.

Hi tulee! I will consider this suggestion. I could remove all the resources if that would help. However, I will not do it on short notice. I just started working on the human sequel (Chronicles of the Marshal) and I prefer to focus on this project for the moment. In my experience, quality of maps does not increase with switching back and forth between projects :) .

So, if you just stick with resources downloaded from the resource section, I doubt this problem will happen in the future if you choose to make more campaigns.
I will keep this in mind. Almost all resources have been downloaded from the resource section so far, so this should be good.

Hi everyone!

I have made some small changes to the Spectral Blast ability of Harg Wolfhowl. I hope it now stops crashing the game on patch 1.32+. @tulee thanks again for your suggestions.

If it keeps crashing, let me know.

Regards

RvP21
Just tested it out, it works fine now. The spell delay is surprising long, but that's fine.

is this supposed to be for warcraft 3 champions to play? can literally not get past the stupid 6th chapter. enemies have so OP units and come so fast. so many bases to kill
Hi babis123! This campaign is not supposed to be for warcraft 3 champions only (in that case, I would recommend Legends of Arkain). I am a bit confused about which map you are referring to. Are you referring to chapter 5 (against humans) or chapter 6 (against undead)? The reason for asking is that chapter 5 is the hardest chapter of the campaign (so it would make sense if you are struggling there  )

Regards.

tbh i see myself as less than a medium player (but i am mostly a medium player ) when it come to skill and still this campaign was not that hard to beat
(in that case, I would recommend Legends of Arkain)
bro legends of arkain is harder than this campaign well to be honest the first books chapters are not that hard however i remember that i had to cheat in some of the second books chapter to pass it because it was so annoying:sad: but still legends of arkain is one of the best campaigns here if not the best

It is chapter 5 you are right its against these OP sky knights and the non stopping waves attacking. I am a medium player too, i know control groups, armor and attack types, i cast spells , but nothing seems to be enough, i played this over 10 times and i deleted it out of frustration as nothing seemed to be working. yes the orcrish army is strong but not enough, plus the non stop attacks and the shortage of gold in the end is what made me give up.

It sounds like you have struggled playing the map. To give one hint: you can use your air forces to destroy the trebuchets and pre-placed defenders at the gates with hit-and-run tactics (while gathering gold). After that, you can start pushing in. I recommend using a strong frontline, casters with AoE damage and siege weaponry to finish the map.
Don't be afraid for a lengthy playthrough: the average one is about three hours.

Good luck!

well i just used air units to destroy the trebuchets just like rvp21 said and i also took control of the goldmine behind my base and spammed towers at the sides of the entrance of my base because its a perfect location for defense using towers and i built my army and defended against the enemy attack waves and used the small time gap between the end of the attack weaves and the begainng of the new attack weaves to launch my attack against the human bases however its not that easy it took me about two hours to destroy all human bases expect for the last one

I've promised to come back with a 5/5 review after I finish the campaign, and I was not wrong. This campaign deserves it.
I have played every chapter from this reworked part 2-3 times, while also replaying the classic version to compare.

First, I'd like to congratulate rvp21 for coming back to this classic campaign. Not many creators rework the thing they started with, so there's my respect to that. It's also beautiful to see creators improve so much and also have passion in the projects they do. It's clearly obvious this reworked part was made with a fire passion.

CHAPTERS

Prologue: Absolutely beautiful. It features a an original story on how it all started, with many characters and factions that linger throughout the course of the campaign. The custom music is nice, the camera and the maps are well crafted and the story it's also not a long prologue to show unncesary details. It just tells you what you need to know, how it all started. In order to know the story the best, you need to know the prologue

CH1: Father and Son
A good start to the campaign. It doesn't start off crazy, but rather a "daily routine" for the protagonist of the campaign. It also introduces a supporting and important character to the lore, and the base mechanics for the fairsight clan. The map is large, it's hard, and it gives the gnolls a backstory as well
I REALLY liked how from the start it shows that the orcs are not as brutal as the humans claim to be "Malkork.. please tell me we didn't do this" and it shows that stinky dogs did the slaughtering instead. There's a lot of creeps on the map that give a challenge to the player. The fountain quest had it's terrain beautifully formed, and the little rune area gave a nice touch. The gnolls hiding in the bushes show off that they're assassins and cowards, refusing to fight on a front.

One thing I love about every chapter is that almost everything from the classic version was remade from scratch. In the classic version, the fountain and gnoll quests are very simple and bland, but here they are taken to a whole other level. 5/5

CH2: Dead Man Walking
This one is very solid in terms of story. Karakh left his son being the chieftain for the clan, and left to meet with an unfamilliar face after spirits gave him vision of danger. From the start, we can see why Harg is an important character and the second in command, he is skilled, spiritual, and a great leader.
Between the classic and the remade version, this chapter SCREAMS "mystery" you have no idea what you're heading into, even for classic, I had this sense of what could lie ahead. The bandits story is also a good one, it shows that not their king is a good person, nor they are, they want to survive and get gold, and they are as arrogant as the humans that are led by a blind king who only cares about greed. The orcs are noble creatures in this universe, but they are also at the top of the food chain, being hunted by gnolls, bandits, humans.. and later undead.
The goblin cutscene gave me real hits "You are greedy, even for a goblin" matches goblins personality perfectly. Them leaving with a fucking tank out of nowhere was really funny, genius idea. Once you get to the human village, you immediately know you should get out of there, but not before finding out what happen. The undead are better written here than in wc3 imo, instead of being lich king slaves, they have a different goal, of not being under the rule of the king, which shows how corrupted the dominant race is in this universe. Harg dying hit me, he died honorably while the verite had no pity of him. More lore to show how the humans are ignorant to what's happening in their kingdom. I also think they didn't care about the village that was raided by the undead, they should have been there from the beginning, not wait for the prey to come out. Right when the cutscene ends, a mysterious character watches from afar.. either a friend or foe.. 5/5

CH3: Struggle For Surival
This is the chapter where shit went to 0 to 100. Rokaro's brother, Gash, is introduced, as the corrupted leader of the hellwalker clan. He dislikes people that are not under his rule, and seen no use in them if they have a fear of death. He is not looking to reason with anybody, only raising his axe to those who question him. He is not afraid of death, because he knows he can withstand every foe. ( rip nadar) I like how the murloc area was heavily expanded and not taken out from this, and I also like the secret bossfight, great idea from the testers.
We meet with another character, Kazumaki, who is useless, but more honorable. I always liked those types of characters in games. The one who is much less strong than his leader, but is afraid to of him, and in the end he turns honorable. We then meet the mysterious character from the earlier chapter, who knows his stuff right. He wants to free Karakh, and he needs Gash and his warriors. This chapter was also a slaughter, with Gash not showing any since of remorse of killing children or females. He is just a killing machine with no end to his conquest. Rvp21's idea of having an ally base in almost every mission is a top notch feature. I really like this. If the enemy can have 5 enemy bases attacking me, I should at least have 1 by my side. Humans also having 3 factions (unlike someone who mentioned it's an imitation to wc3) is unique and good. Different heroes, units, buildings. Loved it 5/5

Interlude: Past of the two brothers
Nothing bad to say here. Just another backstory that was good to see.

CH4: Uninvited Guests
This is where things go hard. You are completely surrounded and helpless. 6 bases attacking you and you have no nowhere to breathe or to go, but Rokaro determination to free his father is stronger than the enemy. I love the subtle detail when the elf mentions "We caught some old orc" and malkork steps aside a bit, enraged by that. He wanted to free his leader, and he wanted to free Rokaro's father as well. "I don't need the best warriors to free my father" hits hard. And loved the gnoll genocide, those pesky dogs deserved it.
I do however miss the Gya spider. I think having her instead of the dragons over the water would have been better. Still, a very, very intense chapter and good one as well. Fezgrel showing up as well was nice

CH5: Reuniting the family
This chapter unleashed my skills as a Warcraft 3 player. But first, I loved the beginning conversation between Gash and Rokaro. It has been 2 years since they've last seen each other, and they want to kill the other right on the spot. It really tells how much hatred those 2 have between them, and how much it changed the entire lore. But I like that he is an ally of us.. in a way
The gnolls backing away from being stupid and actually uniting with us was also neat. ( Them allying with the orcs is a much better alternative )
Taran Goldfinger being denied his rights to speak by Rokaro was also funny, as he was looking to free his father, not feed a greedy goblin. Hard mission, that saved my pc indirectly by crashing dozens of times and me finding the solution to it. I love the catapults, the endless enemy attacks, and.. what..
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 different human factions?? Absolutely peak. I also felt the chemistry between gash and his son. Something has struck their soul in that moment when they saw each other. 5/5

CH6: Siege of Minas Tazul
This chapter is nice and shows the next important character of the series, Jored Nicholas. I am not a big fan of the base not being fully covered, but it's understandable since the undead somehow got in there. It's a short pause from the struggle. I liked how arrogant Gash is, and how he corrupted more people. 4/5

CH7: Walk To Safety
Absolute Cinema. Rvp21 and his testers deserve a nobel prize on this site just by this chapter alone
The entire convoy is split up, the women and children are scared of the endless skeletons, Rokaro is growing hopeless and the warriors are tired, on top of that, Gash is found weakened. He dares not say a word, as he knows if he pisses Rokaro off he may just leave him behind. The entire map is filled with dread. Bodies, skeletons are everywhere and you are constantly not given a moment to breathe as they attack you. You find some survivors along the way, but they are not much of a help since Gash is getting weaker. Finding Harg's stuff was such a nice throwback.. and a shame he died so quick.
The ending is the definition of peak. Malkork is willing to sacrifice himself so Rokaro can get out, Gash doesn't give a shit about it. Malkork even though in a very small group died "See you in hell" honorably. Him giving his amulet to Rokaro was the last straw to make this chapter an emotional rollercoster. The save the children quest doesn't give any reward, and that's makes the best outcome. You are either greedy and let them to die, or you feel honorable as malkork did. 6/5

CH8: This was didn't get that reworked, because rvp already got the skils needed when making the first campaign towards the end. I like the critters or the animals in the map that let you see when they are coming, and I also like how limited Gomol and Zur'Rall's forces are, and I never liked aerial missions, but I was proven wrong with this map. Loved the ending cinematic, a new mystery will unfold..

CHARACTERS
Rokaro: Great leader, noble fighter, empathic brother. He is still young and he is still learning how to lead a clan. He is willing to get himself through hell to save his family, and he has mercy towards the innocent. He is the counterpart of Gash, and I love how he's the protagonist of this series, while Gash is anti-hero and a villan sometimes, on the same side as humans. He is truly one of the few characters with a good heart.

Karakh: Great Leader, Noble Fighter, very spiritual. The same as Rokaro, but much more spiritual. Everything he does is for the spirits. He banished his son because of it. He believes the spirits will guide his clan to salvation, which wasn't the case here. He is now an old man and he should have given his chieftain role to his son long ago.

Gash: Arrogant, wrathful, prideful. Simply the opposite version of Rokaro, and does everything Rokaro does but in a twisted way. He is a leader of a corrupted clan, kills the innocent, doesn't care about anyone but himself, and full of pride. Lovely written, as he is also seen as a victim.

Harg: The spirit in orc flesh, honorable, loyal. He didn't deserve to this way, we don't know much about Harg outside of 1 interlude, but it shows how close he was to Karakh and Rokaro.

Malkork: Loyal to the bone, honorable, and knows where his shit is at. He doesn't ask any question because he has years of experience and knows what to do in every situation. A short mentor for Rokaro and a very skilled fighter. Absolutely well written characters.

Gorfax: He is very young, and he is one of the best shamans in the fairsight clan after Harg. He is shown eager to learn more, while also asking questions and protecting his people. a good well written side character for Rokaro and Karakh, though much more important in part 2..

Fezgrel: Loyal, Greedy, Envious. This one is just like Harg, but much more envious and obsessed with dark magic. He is a good friend of Karakh, but the envy will get the best of him. He wants power, but not to do wrong. He is a good character with bad traits.

Gomol: ME SMASH YOU! ME SMASH HIS KILLERS! YOU SMART HUMAN, ME WANT TO SMASH YOU, LUCKY OLD FRIEND HAS OTHER PLANS, YOU FOLLOW ME. STOP ASKING QUESTIONS OR ME SMASH YOU ANYWAY. cinema comedy, LOVED IT.

Zul'Rall: Primitive beast, loyal and honorable. Nothing much to say about this character, other than it shows he cares about his kinsmen and is loyal with his friends

Nicholas Jored: First human character in a orc campaign. He is the definition of Rokaro but in human form.

Darian Tazul: I wish he would've survived, he seems like a good fella.

Verite trollhunter: Loved killing her, that's all.

Andros: Just a confused elf who is weak, and arrogant.

Kazumaki: Gash useless blademaster that is somewhat not fully succumbed to the corruption of the blood gods.

Tychrel: I love the mystery of this character, and his teddy bear. It reminds me of those horror stories where he was actually just a child in the past before turning evil. I am super eager to learn more of him in rpv21's next work, he is very important to the story while appearing only 3 times. Also incredibly powerful with void aura around him (kassadin?)

Trycex: New character that only appeared 2 times, from what I've seen, he's similiar to malkork.

Lurzek: Not very significant character but he still fears Gash

Xorag: An actually useful lieutenant of Gash, but corrupted.

I haven't yet mentioned the amount of unseen detail in those characters. Almost everyone of them has an item that gives them more lore, even those you see only once, like Eldas Nightstriker. Fantastic Work

DIFFICULTY: Hard, and I god damn love it.

BUGS: outside of some dialogue errors and some bugs I mentioned to Rvp21, I didn't see anything else. The testers of this campaign did a great job.

Final rating: The only downside is that it lacks some custom music, but I always liked WC3 original music so, 5/5. Like the true sword of a samurai, made from the best by the best with the best.

A wonderful rework but i have come to report a rather funny bug or probably best to call it an oopsie. Chapter 8 has us commanding an Orc/Troll airforce and an allied Troll/Ogre ground defense with no heroes, only the demi-heroes Zul'rall and Gomol but not really.

In the previous chapter Malkork said "See you in hell" and apparently Chapter 8 is hell because the Fairsight Clan can build an altar and from that altar comes Malkork the First, Malkork the Second, Malkork the Third, Malkork the Fourth, Malkork the Fifth, Malkork the Sixth, ...., Malkork the Nine Hundred and Ninety-Nineth, ...., Malkork the 7 Trillion 492 Billion 673 Million 167 Thousand 745th etc. Yes you can build an army of Malkorks. I don't know why Rokaro is so sad about Malkork dying because he is clearly here with his family and extended family and extended family's family butchering the 2 undead bases because Crush is amazing.

Edit: BEHOLD, THE MALKORK FAMILY REUNION!!!!

Hi!It’s before.
That is strange. I will look into it.

Edit: I just checked, but the boss does show himself in my playthrough. I can't find a cause in the triggers as well. Is it possible for you to play it again and record it? I might find out what is wrong.

Hi!Is White’s legs useful or not?I forgot pick one up hhh.
It is not. It is not even intended. Some of my maps have the strange habit of randomly dropping or spawning Wirt's other leg (and I can't find out why  )

Thank you bro. I’like your work, my game is 1.31. Sometimes the boss does not show up and you have to restart, not just read the saved file.
