The Story So Far...

Since the fall of the Burning Legion, tensions kept rising between the Alliance and the Horde. The discovery of Azerite ignited the flames of war, with the Horde taking the opportunity to preemptively strike at the Alliance. After the invasion of Darkshore, the World Tree Teldrassil, home of the night elves, was burned down on Sylvanas Windrunner's orders. High King Anduin Wrynn has gathered allies new and old, aiming to strike back...

Played the 1.35 version. While the campaign stands out visually, in terms of gameplay it's kind lacking, repetitive and linear for the most part. There's little to no replayability value, sadly. Approved. If you want more reviews, you should...

I tried to simply click on the campaign in 1.29 in-game custom campaign list and immediately got an error about not having enough memory resources to process the command

First of all thanks for the 1.27 version. I honestly didn't expect to see your new campaigns for 1.27 already.

Having experience with your previous campaigns, this time I started this one much better prepared mentally for the bugs I would encounter. BUT - surprise. The only error that remains is when exiting the game and after that from Wc3. No bugs ruining whole gameplay of the level, no sudden exits from Wc3. It doesn't even have the bug of repeatedly reloading a save game (tested with two saved files). Very good job. Bravo.

What can I say about the campaign? Med. MapGuy standard audio and visual. Good passability on Normal difficulty, but you'll get maximum enjoyment on Hard. Personally, the game grabbed me completely on Chap.3-4. Except for the last level, all Codexes are located so that they are easy to find. But I'm not bothered to look for them in the last level.

Minor Notes:
- these Satyrs and the wolves in front of them are literally waiting for you to hug them so they can attack

Warcraft III Screenshot 2023.07.26 - 23.03.45.49.png

- here the game messed up the counting

Warcraft III Screenshot 2023.07.27 - 01.26.16.83.png

- here when you buy Mercenaries they appear..... well you don't see them right now but they are there. Better to appear in the visible area where the soldier is or slightly to the right of him

Warcraft III Screenshot 2023.07.27 - 18.20.59.25.png

I hope this isn't your last 1.27 campaign. Congratulations on the new star in your portfolio.

Glad you enjoyed my campaign and it worked with nary a hitch, VanAndro (I was worried the amount of custom assets would cause problems). Noted on the bugs you pointed out. I will say now that the sequel, Battle for Lordaeron, will be Reforged-exclusive. I've been wanting to try my hand at using the Reforged editor for a while and I'm currently building up my asset base. I'm kind of shocked there was a number of really good stuff on HIVE for a BFA campaign, however, it's still in very early development. That said, my other campaign, Ashbringer's Quest, will be coming out in two versions (1.27b and Reforged). That campaign is not as bombastic as this series, but hopefully players enjoy it as well.

Custom assets for possible Battle for Lordaeron campaign.

downloaded and tested the campaign. loved the creative chapters and as always top notch cinematics! my main huge bug i struggled, and repeated itself, was with windrunner, helping her bethern chapters. after i escort the dwarf and try to head to the optional quest, or to the nearest village close to him, the village prompts the wrong text, the npc portaits are dark, and winder runner is sent back automaticcly to the start of the map again.

I was very happy about the release of this new campaign, but my happiness does not stayed with me longer, than I expected...

WC III 1.27b
  • CHAPTER 3 SPECIFIC BUGS: Ancient Protector(player version, not the pre-placed version) has no root ability(Becaming a "tower" is not an option), and after "building" it, cannot be repaired with Wisp: because it's an organic unit. It moves with two legs. Furthermore, the player version of Ancient of War(not the pre-placed one) has 1-2 more unit to train, and has additional interact options (move, etc.) in root-ed mode, not in up rooted mode. If the player skips the intro of the chapter, the player's gold mine doesn't get entangled: the player must watch the intro, if it want's a ready gold mine

  • GENERAL GAME BUGS:
  • When a chapter is completed, the next is not coming automatically, instead it drops me to the Main Menu, and I need to select the next chapter
  • I can't do it instantly, because the game crashes, so I need to run the game, and select the next chapter from the Campaign Chapter Selection menu, AFTER the crash.
  • Tuskarr Agent Healing ability can heal enemy units. - Like in the War of Thorns -
  • Dranei Siege Engine has bugged death animation, and after that: it stays on the field, in a shape like nothing happened with it

  • (Not Bug) The Dranei Caravan building has no vision, and requires a close nearby building or a unit, to hire units from there.
Another edit: How the F is possible, that I found the bugs, and others not? What's the difference? I'm some special man, that bugs must found me everytime, if someone releases a campaign, and others has no problems on the same game version? What the F is going on here?

I confirm but I had no such problems returning to Campaign Chapter Selection menu. Game crashes only when I exit Wc3. Clean your profile Save folder and does not make more than 2 Saved Game files.

Regarding Chap.3 - things are as they are. I assumed they were intentionally made that way, so I didn't see them as flaws. Of course, this does not prevent them from being bugs. Who knows, but it's still good.

Another Edit :psmile:: it's all about point of view + clean OS + clean Wc3 directories.

Chapter 3 crashes all the time for myself, however only have 8 gig ram so that may be why. Possibly the map just has too much information for my pc to handle. It's the first custom campaign mission that have played to do so which is interesting. Luckily chapter 4 works, so am just playing on.

Edit- actually no, chapter 4 crashes constantly at the mercenary camp
fyi, have old graphics running, very low fps, game mode and windows 10 priority for warcraft3.exe

  1. Second cinematic map ends in victory rather than stating immediately with the next map. Also pressing continue leads to the campaign menu, actually custom campaign menu.
  2. Pretty much Maiev and Naisha again. Not much gameplay originality here. Also, both have Blink which makes them even less different. Maiev is totally the same hero without anything changed or at least new aside her known spells plus she's level 1 again.
  3. Awakened Ancient of War was simply standing there and the satyrs attacked only the player units.
  4. An annoying thing is having to select zones of crate and barrel looking like destructibles to find out if indeed any of them are destructibles and not doodads. There are no specific looking ones that can be recognizable among the clutters. It's OK when they're soloed out in places, however.
  5. Jarod remains selected during cinematic mode until the characters starts speaking.
  6. Blood Fury and Frenzy are the same spell basically so two units from two different factions although under the Alliance are practically identical.
  7. Looks like every map ending leads to the custom campaign menu screen, not just interludes.
  8. Some Shatterspear Huts are enemy, others neutral.
  9. There's a visual glitch issue with blood and/or building rubble in the right top corner during the cinematic scene with the druid bear.
  10. Broll has no glow during bear form.
  11. The prison break quest was marked as completed (rather a requirement than an actual quest) at 5 of 6.
  12. No idea why Taunt's icon was changed to War Stomp's since the one the Mountain Giant had was fitting.
  13. Rokhan wasn't killed in that previous map? I see the character talking to Saurfang in a cinematic scene.
  14. The dark green undead base's gold mine is enemy.
  15. The game crashed during the scene with Alleria talking about what she and Turalyon did on countless worlds in a thousand years time. Happened every time. Had to skip the intro.
  16. Alleria's first spell is the same as Shandris'. Also, Starfall!? Is not such arcane magic related to Elune rather than the Twisting Nether or Void?
  17. Even the Void Knights have Frenzy...
  18. Weird that a self cast spell (Drik of Ale) requires a point target. Could replace it with a potion or scroll of healing (with 0 AoE) spell.
  19. During the scene with Cariel Roame, the camera shakes. Not sure if intended.
  20. Baron Kruul has no glow.
  21. After defeating the void boss, the blood elf void corruption dialogue triggered again mingled with the end chapter dialogue. Then when Rommath appeared, cinematic mode ended, Alleria was spawned again and then cinematic mode started the ending scene again.
  22. Mammy remains in entered zones in the chapter with Stormwind, thus requiring to summon the beast again when entering a different zone.
  23. Genn's animation froze for a while when speaking about his son. Also, the hippogriff in Turalyon's zone, is frozen.
  24. Meh, Rain of Cannons is just Rain of Fire. Would have been neat to be a huge range weapon thingy that doesn't need Alleria to be channeling.
Played the 1.35 version.

While the campaign stands out visually, in terms of gameplay it's kind lacking, repetitive and linear for the most part. There's little to no replayability value, sadly.

Approved.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

I know how important good feedback is, so I'm trying to give as much as possible (and hopefully useful advice as a fellow mapmaker):
WALL OF TEXT & MAJOR NITPICKING INCOMING !

-Played the 1.00 version on normal difficulty on my 1.27 game version-
Note : I know almost nothing about WOW's plot outside of what I learned from various custom campaigns and from the internet's grapevine, so I don't have the same viewpoint as a lore fan

-completing a map should load the next instead of coming back to the campaign screen, but maybe it's because of the frequent crashes when you try to load a new map ?
-all units appear smaller and are harder to select in battle but seem to pathblock themselves just as much as normal – maybe reduce their collision size and up their selection size and make less tight passages
-I'm happy to see Wally here but even without the hat he's a bit weird in all this super-serious no fun allowed plotline
-blood fury should be automatically on for the worgen
-showing very blurry map in closeup in cutscenes wouldn't bear a mention for another campaign but here it contrasts badly with the very pretty visuals everywhere else
-the projectile of the non-hero warden is a bit bugged : it doesn't disappear on impact
-this time the amount of items you get is way more balanced than the previous BfA : powerful but you can't have all heroes become OP, it's much better
-something I don't know if I already said on another campaign, but the way the maps are constructed with very little empty space always impresses me as a mapmaker, it must take extensive planning before starting the terrain
-in the recap at one point Sylvanas says « in » but the text says « with »
-on the intro loading screen it says it was a « disastrous campaign », which should mean that they failed, but they succeeded ? Did you mean that it was a disaster for the nightelves ?
-codex gardens « used AS a place »
-in the cutscene with the nighelf hero of the 1st campaign that dies, she just drops dead. I think the satyrs were supposed to attack her ? And the civilians explode but the satyr doesn't look like he's casting a spell
-it would have been cool for both story and gameplay if moonwells or priestesses could heal your units
-codex « howling owk »
-I keep hearing Kael talking about crossing the lake ? I think that's one of the units that says that
-sometimes you hear death sounds from enemies long after they're dead
-you get so many units it's a bit overwhelming (a lot of them have active abilities) and it's way too easy, especially compared to the 1st map that was pretty hard for an intro
-I'm not a fan of the way the difficulty works here : at the start you can't get 10 seconds to breathe between attacks from both sides simultaneously, but after you killed a couple of bases (in my case the 2 undead ones) there aren't any attacks anymore, or at least they're VERY spaced out
-draenei constructs are completely silent
-ancient protectors can't root : if it's intended, better change the default description but as a regular unit they're pretty terrible since the enemy has catapults in their bases
-there is an empty troll camp in the south, it feels like something should happen there ?
-can't make an ancient of wonders, so can't train mountain giants
-shandris got stuck in a falling animation in the smaller orcish base for the rest of the map (at least that's when I noticed), pretty funny :gg:
-the paladins can't be upgraded, so better remove the upgrade numbers for armor and damage
-the deadly vision ability seems pretty bad compared to the usual special arrows and it has a bugged buff description on enemies
-the mercenary spellcasters you can recruit start with very little mana except the priest, I guess because he's just a change of model
-the booze heal of the dwarves is a bit weird :it's an AoE you need to choose, even though it only works on the caster : you should probably use another base spell for a self-heal, like the potion object ability
-I still love the use of the overland map, and you can even leave the warden in the cave to come back later, nice !
-just FIY « connard » literally means« stupid asshole » in french, appropriate since he's by far the toughest fight in the campaign, between his stats and spamming entangling roots that prevent you from saving a dying hero, which means instant game over
-some WOW models have problems on portraits but it's usually not too bad... but Turalyon looks like he's used soot to make a fake beard
-in the Greymane dialogue about Sylvanas « she lost unleashed »
-the 1st codex entry for gunship doesn't show up in the quest log but it still works to get the INT bonus
-unfortunately it's another map where using units is more trouble than they're worth because the enemies throw tons of debuff that slows them, passages are tight and towers behind barricades absolutely shred most of them with their magic attack...
-...so it's a good thing you can spam the summon of alleria which is totally OP for its mana cost & reload time + Wally's summon + the 3 heroes lvl6 spells = who needs an army ?
-the 1st time I played the map I watched the cutscene and I controlled the 2 elves + Wally, but the 2nd time I wanted to test something, so I skipped the cutscene... and I got control of the 2 elves + Turalyon and Wally was gone !? :eekani: I guess something went wrong somewhere
-the end cinematic is disappointingly short and feels more like a « to be continued » than a conclusion of the campaign. I just have to hope there will indeed be a continuation

As always, stellar presentation which alone makes it worth trying, overall I liked it more than the 1st entry, especially the void elves are more interesting both story-wise and because their new units have cool abilities. The gameplay felt less repetitive than the 1st, too.
The 2 big problems for me are : the difficulty is all over the place, and it ends on a cliffhanger.

As always, I hope this will be useful to Med.MapGuy.

I've really been in a BFA phase lately, so this campaign was a nice addition to scratch that itch.

Quality wise, its on par with other Med.MapGuy, which is to say that it's good. There is no empty space on any of the maps, every bit of terrain is used, this makes the maps more on the longish side, but in my opinion they feel just right.
The quality of the cinematics really help get you in the story, the fact that we have wow models and voice lines sells it even better.
One thing that I really appreciate is the fact that there are references to the Jailer and Sylvanas motivations for this war. Which is more than Blizzard ever gave us! But I digress.
Getting to play as Alleria was a nice change of pace, the Stormwind level was so well designed that I replayed it once I was done with the campaign.
Overall playing it on Reforged patch 1.36 with classic graphics did not give me any bug and it was a nice experience.

I recommend it.
