Just an honest question; fellow terrainers.

How do you make a unit play it's animation in the editor?

No, I'm not joining. I don't have the skills to.

It's not all about skills. It's a practice aswell, and motivation to overdo yourself.


However you cannot use the Editor to dsiplay animations, you need an ingame screenshot for that.

...Or, you can open any modeling software that respects itself (e.g. Magos Model Editor), edit the requested animation's name to "Stand", check "Always Loops", and voila! Your units will automatically play your desired animation over and over again until you get a nice screenshot. This could be a problem with Death though, as blood will keep pouring out of the unit and there might be a little too much blood on the ground, so I suggest you just use triggers\dummy units to kill those units and get a screenshot from in-game.
Also, don't forget to remove the original "Stand" animations.

Yes, commrade Veljkom. I'm gonna make a legendary battle of Trolmanians (aka black teamcolored footmen and knights) against Tlenowherians (aka steampunky dwarves and sumans) in some Draenoshian city (aka. lots of gardens and Dalaran buildings). Is that clearly enough for non-DPers?

darkzxx, where's the battle in all this?
Also, why is only the tree reflected below, and why is it reflected at all?! I thought he was in the sky.
And what's the thing after the archways which blocks the line of sight?

First of all make sure your computer uses your maximum screen resolution.
Then make sure WC3 is using the same resolution. If your resolution isn't amongst the possible choices, use this tool to automatically fix it up. I can assure you WC3 will look much better then.

That is totally wrong, fellow terrainer. Or well, partially.

There is a part of the Manager Editor when viewing units called "Required Animation Name" or something of the likes, here you can enter an animation's name, and it will sometimes play in the editor, though not all kind of animations will.

I've come to understand that the ones that work is generally the ones that conclude of two words, such as "stand victory" and related, to do this correctly though you will have to add each word separately on the list, and they need be in the correct order, meaning to play for instance stand victory, you will have to add "stand" hit ok, and then do the same with "victory." Another crucial thing is that all letters must be low case.

Again, I'm not saying all animations will work, and most doesn't, but there are sertain animations that can be played in the editor, its a game of trail and error, so to speak.

and about the reflection thing,i was using this contest to test that,don't worry i will make everything reflected
if you jump in the air,is there a shadow ? of course there is,everything has reflections
the colosuss looks pretty ugly >.<,i will remake it properly,the rocks look totally messed up,well you can't blame me i used 5mins on making it >.<
and btw can i tint a cloud ? the cloud doesn't look orange

Ineresting idea there. Like you said the archway wall look little bit bad, maybe but somekind wall infront of them, would look better this way. Atm it look pretty empty, but i belive that you gona add lots of new doodads. :goblin_yeah:
If this is heaven, then you should add heavy white fog, and some UTM or sother ground fog models, cause then it seems more realistic as heaven. And also, the sun reflection look kinda bad IMO, cause there is only tiny piece what we can see of sun, so the reflection should be different or you could move sun more out.

You misunderstood the field.
This field is used for animations with a suffix, e.g: "Victory", "Alternate", "Gold", "Lumber", "Flesh", "Second", "Third", "Cinematic", "Ready" etc(but mainly Alternate), usually and mostly used for Ancients' alternate animation set(uprooted) and for morphing units(Druids, Tinker, Goblin Alchemist, etc).
It wont make units play their animations, but you can probably outsmart the engine to make it play one animation that might be important for this contest - "Stand Ready". Simply write "ready" as a tag and watch the magic work.

With some basic model-editing, this could actually work greatly for your advantage, however!

Hey, I just wanted to explain in more detail about what exactly it works like. :p I'm sorry if I were offensive or so, I just tried to help out. I believe it wont work for animations like "Spell", "Attack" etc simply because it will only ever play "Stand" + "Suffix" whereas the suffix is what you write down in the field.

E.g Stand Channel, Stand Gold, Stand Lumber, Stand Ready, Stand Cinematic, Stand Second etc...

yeah, it becomes wierd when you put something there like attack, spell, etc...

@darkzxx - you can view animations of a model when you select a unit or is selecting a model for a unit, it would appear on the left part of the terrain editor...

Thats what me and Debode have been talking about for like... The last two pages. You open up the Unit Manager, find a "field" when selecting a unit called "Required Animation Name" and then you add the animation name. Though as we've said, it only works with the "stand" animations, such as stand victory, stand channel, etc..

To be honest I kinda like the outcome of my work... If I don't have any last-minute changes this will be my final submission.

I don't even know how to make it. So all I can say is:

I can tell you one thing pal, this is my first terrain contest. If you think I think I'm a match you're wrong - I'm doing this for the experience and for the fun of it! Besides, practice makes perfect.
If you come with that attitude to compete then you're asking for it yourself - if you really want to terrain you'd use this as a place to get working, so that in the next times you'll be a worthy competitor!
And if that doesn't count - I challenge you!
 
darkzxx, why are you even judging a terrain by it's worked time and how can you even tell how much someone has been working on it?
I can make a terrain in 10 min which you won't be able to create in hours or in days,
Anyway, those terrains are okay and they can look really good with some time spent on them and don't forget they are WIPs and can still have a chance of looking awesome.
Your terrain has no ground or is that water? in any case, no army which could fight in the air falls on my head, if it's water then add some humans fighting the Naga, that was your original idea wasn't it?

idodik, I advise you to do something about the army's colour, they hurt my eyes. Make them grey or something that blends with the surrounding.
Set the Z start of the fog to 0, it will make your terrain nicer.
I also see the end of the world on all sides of the terrain, and the trees end where the fog starts, try adding depth to the terrain but adding more trees and big rocks for example and if your having problem with room then freely expand the map.

but if anybody has a better suggestion or anything that will improve it,i will do it,i am currently doing what idodik and The_Olorin told me to
