Almost Heroes AoS v1.03

Almost Heroes AoS is a very fitting name for this map. The game plays similar to a traditional AoS/Moba with one major twist: heroes don't level up. There also aren't any strength, agility, or intelligence attributes to speak of, but other stats and certain abilities can still be improved with items.

Features

- These heroes aren't just simply regular units inserted into an AoS type of map. All 19 heroes have their own set of abilities and functionalities that offer completely unique styles of play. Everything was coded using pure written JASS code, with around 27,000 lines written out.

- There is no income system. Instead, heroes are encouraged to participate in battles to earn their gold. However, you don't necessarily need to last hit creeps to earn resources, though doing so will award a little more. Just like with heroes, you'll earn a partial bounty upon their deaths if you were able to at least inflict some damage.

- You don't have to spend several minutes at a time reading up on a complex recipe system. Item effects are intentionally simple and easy to understand. Instead of a traditional recipe system, items can simply be upgraded in return for gold with a simple click.

- Though these aren't "true heroes," you can still select them using their custom made hero icons at the top left corner. Alternatively, pressing F1 will automatically select your hero at any time. It's also worth noting that these heroes still manage to have special hero glows and mini map icons, just like an actual hero.

- Alliance Faction Heroes: Arcane Templar, Storm Ranger, Legerdemain, Bounty Hunter, Wild Brawler, Phoenix, Umbra Tactician, Element Bender, and Verdant Keeper.

- Distorted Faction Heroes: Tormented Slayer, Necromancer, Perished Bersagliere, Doom Guard, Sludge Mutant, Chaos Cannon, Aspect of Rage, Anomaly, Cabal Polymath, and Soul Collector.

(Note: Map was developed using the standard edition of Warcraft 3. I honestly don't know how things look in Reforged.)

v1.01 Changelog
- Fixed an issue where Storm Ranger's Hawk Tamer item can be "imprinted" onto another item if you buy the Hawk Tamer with an invalid hero, then add a new item to the item slot the Hawk Tamer item would've occupied.

- Fixed an issue where Phoenix would no longer be able to access Emblazing Embodiment and Afterburner Dive if he died.

- Wild Brawler's Miracle Seed ensnare effect now triggers after 18 seconds down from 30. Cooldown reduced from 42 seconds to 30 seconds.

- Wild Brawler's Predatory Instinct now triggers after 3 consecutive attacks down from 5. Duration increased from 4.5 seconds to 9 seconds, but the movement speed bonus has been reduced from 70% to 50%.

- Wild Brawler's Autonomous Stampede now has a cooldown of 90 seconds up from 84 seconds

- Doom Guard's Annihilation cast range has been reduced to 350 down from 650.

- Doom Guard's Fel Fury now has half the normal burn chance as Burning Cleave. Movement slow effect reduced to 20%/30% down from 30%/40%. Attack cooldowns nerfed to 2.40/2.25/2.10/1.95/1.80 seconds from 2.25/2.10/1.95/1.80/1.50 seconds.

- Guard Towers now have 1,000 health down from 1,800 health.

- Hero kill assist messages now display correctly. They also take up less of the screen and for less time.

v1.02 Changelog

- A new ability has been added to the upgraded forms of the Claws of Attack, Gloves of Haste, Health Charm, and Mana Charm. With this, 300 gold can be traded to permanently increase the item's corresponding stat for the hero, up to a capacity of 50, 35, 40, and 40 times respectively. This stat increase remains even if the hero gets rid of the item or dies. This can ONLY be done when the hero has a full inventory (to protect players from making an inefficient decision early on).

- Item costs lowered since there's now an endgame in which players can spend their gold.

- Unused resources removed to reduce file size.

- Revive timer for hero deaths significantly lowered.

- Bounty Hunter's exclusive items are no longer charged items, but their costs have been increased to 350. Some other adjustments have also been applied.

- Necromancer's Skeleton summons now benefit from higher amounts of mana.

- Minor adjustments for Cabal Polymath, Verdant Keeper, Wild Brawler, and Perished Bersagliere.

v1.03B Changelog
- Attack Speed Upgrade for heroes reduced from 3% to 2%. Cap reduced from 35 to 30.

- Due to the new upgrade system, Phoenix has been completely reworked while Chaos Cannon has been given a minor rework. Phoenix now (technically) has an attack. As such, he now utilizes attack damage and attack speed. As for Chaos Cannon, its main armaments are now affected by attack speed factors.

- Wild Brawler's Predatory Instinct now provides +90% attack speed when triggered. His stats and other abilities have been rebalanced with this change in mind. This is intended to make Wild Brawler feel more fun and rewarding when he gets into attack range of other heroes.
v1.03a change: Forgot to reduce Predatory Instinct's duration to 6.0 seconds from 9.0 seconds. It said as much in the tooltip, but wasn't actually implemented. v1.03B: Now triggers against buildings. Miracle Seed can now be triggered by Serpent Ward in addition to Wild Brawler. Miracle Seed now deals 100% attack as physical damage.

- Disabled tip system since it's just irrelevant now with some of the changes implemented. Can possibly update these later.

- Will likely be the last update for a little bit. Consider this map in "beta" for the time being.

- I'll be paying attention to feedback, comments, criticisms, and suggestions — not that I've received any so far...

Almost Heroes AoS v1.03B (Map)

The heroes are nice, however, they don't seem to evolve like in most RPGs and AoS games/maps. The items can get boring quick due to their limited variety. The terrain layout is rather simplistic as well. Maybe some game modes would help? Approved.

A credits list in the map description with the names of the authors whose resources you've used is mandatory. That includes models, skins, icons, custom spells, systems. Also, sounds, music and everything outside this site.
This helps you with the models, skins and icons from Hiveworkshop: Resources in use by Almost Heroes AoS v1.00
You can also upload your map here to generate a list: Asset scanner

Awaiting Update.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

So I've been under the impression that I followed your instructions. Did I misunderstand what you meant by "map description"?

Please let me know if there's anything else I need to do here. Thanks!

Thank you for your review. I think your critiques are spot on.

It's been extremely difficult to get games going due to the state of Warcraft 3, but I did manage to get a single 5v5 game going... for a few minutes as people started leaving almost immediately after the game started.

In any event, I had someone tell me "This map has a lot of interesting ideas, but it's not very fun." A very fair statement, I think.

Looking back, I think I was too focused on creating unique playstyles. I think a lot of people see the progression or evolution of heroes as being a fun thing, and maybe that's what the map needs.

I feel like I need to take a break for a few months, and really think about how to inject more fun in the map, likely through a system that allows heroes to progress and evolve.
