Tauren v1.0

Tauren v.1.0
Created by wa666r

Map Information

An alternate melee in my series of maps involving lore races from the Warcraft universe. This addition allows the players to explore and play as the nomadic Tauren.

The Tauren are a noble and spiritual people, devoted to living in harmony with the Earthmother and the natural world. Towering in stature and unmatched in strength, they combine raw physical might with deep reverence for ancestral traditions. Their nomadic lifestyle, guided by the rhythms of the land and the movements of their trusted Kodos, reflects their adaptability and resilience. Though peaceful at heart, when called to battle the Tauren fight with honor, wielding both their brawn and their sacred totems to protect their kin and their way of life.

Tauren v1.0 (Map)

While you can't really see the add up from Peaceful Harmony and Herd Mentality, it would at least be nice to have a buff/aura effect to know you're in the zone. Keeper of the Plains seems a bit OP. Quite tough for first tier to get a 4 food unit...

@Wa666r, I had saw everything in your custom races: from easy victory down to embarrasing defeat (that Black Empire showcase), but I never felt stalemale.
Maybe this is my own problem with my scenario: Me versus 3 Tauren AI in FFA, but this race can be understood properly only in a mirror match. This applies to all custom races, I think.

Race is strong. Endurance like a bull. But it's slow. I like this Starcraft-style of Terrans when you can move nearly all of your base akin to lore-wise nomading styl,e and actually escape base defeat. A question arose - If I had only packed kodos and no town halls, would I be revealed to the enemy?

Overall, I didn't won, but I think that AI should not take his caddle into battle - since they give food, its easy to make him out-of-limit.
But I liked this race.

If you want to roleplay a proper nomadic war but in Warcraft style, this race can give it.
I wonder what centaurs will look like, if you dare to make them...

Well its hard to play a faction a first time. There's an overwhelming amount of information. You overexerted with making too many workers. And the AI for this faction actually turned out quite well.

You would still be revealed to your enemy with a packed kodo. It still counts as a unit, not a town hall.

Thanks for the showcase!

  1. While you can't really see the add up from Peaceful Harmony and Herd Mentality, it would at least be nice to have a buff/aura effect to know you're in the zone.
  2. Keeper of the Plains seems a bit OP.
  3. Quite tough for first tier to get a 4 food unit.
  4. There's quite some stunning in this faction, the Brave, Log Thrower, Wyvern and if adding the Keeper of the Plains... stacking I guess? There's also Spirit of the Kodo and Law of the Wilds.
  5. Wind Spear mentions range two times in a row and also gives bonus to movement speed but is not specified in the description.
  6. Brave's stun doesn't last 2 secs but 0.5 or less seconds. Tried it on a neutral Wildkin.
  7. Great Horn Marksman is kind of a better version of the Plainswalker. Not sure if they should be different units rather than a Berserker upgrade.
  8. Thunder Lance might be a bit too much in its current form. I'm thinking if you'd have 6 to 12 of these fellers doing the electric dance.
  9. Mending Waters Totem doesn't have a AoE for the healing ability.
Needs a bit more balancing but quite novel as we don't yet have any proper/original tauren techtree faction.
Approved.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Oh my.. This is my favorite race after the Quilboar :ogre_love:, can I ask for a reference model for the Tauren unit for my campaign?
A reference model for what?

After ~15 long years... The soul of Ominous Horizons finally gets its due. 😊

Very cool to see your take on Tauren. Hopefully I'll get a chance to test & review sometime this decade, but they look pretty snazzy.
This decade or maybe the next. Who knows? haha

1.) Maybe in an update or so, but its one of those things that dont seem necessary, the range is about an auras range.
2.) Balance aint my forte.
3.) You're not meant to fully saturate your base with workers as they already grant plenty of income. So saving your food for warrior units at the start is a must.
4.) Yes, the faction stuns a lot. Part of the design.
5.) Ah, thats a bug.
6.) Idk what you're seeing but the ability data has it set to 2 seconds. Maybe some odd bug.
7.) Not exactly, they both got their roles to fill. Marksmen deal far less damage to ground targets and serve as a ground anti-air unit. Plainswalkers have far lower attack range and work better to bulk out close-range units.
8.) Kinda like what happens when you have 6 - 12 Gryphons, or Chimeras. Their role is high area damage, but they're quite squishy to compensate.
9.) Unfortunately needed so AI would use it.
