Hello, community. Me being a super nice admin and all, I'm currently going over all the sticky threads in our forums. Some of these have links that are broken since the migration, or are generally outdated and need redoing.

It'd be awesome if you could link me sticky threads that need tending to ITT. And, if possible, also give me some ideas what should go in them.

I may be unfairly sexy and speak fluent awesome, but I don't spend time in all forums on the site unless I'm responding to reports, so I don't know all the weird conventions you guys have come up with.

Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobis. You're my only hope!

I watched the forum stickies where I'm active and just report all where is something to say:

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/contest-resources.149124/ first thw image is broken

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/general-question-please-use-the-world-editor-help-zone.87483/ last part of opening post is broken

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/integrating-weu-into-jass-newgen-pack.181085/ that needed anymore

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/complete-list-of-modding-tools.212411/ the [c] tags are broken

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/jasshelper-jass-newgen-pack.151844/ not needed anymore

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/off-site-tutorials.143857/ useless

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/off-site-tutorials.143858/ also wont be used at all

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/project-recruitment-forum.34239/ I think it is a rule to disable signatures in stickies?

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/tips-and-tricks-for-the-cinema.39854/ @PurgeandFire , seems some pics are broken

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/legacy-modders-idea-factory.195121/ broken code

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/the-hives-staff.218953/ moderator activity is not showing at all

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/reputation-faq.94520/ the gems are outdated (size) -- and if the current rep politics are permanent it need to be rewritten completly.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/map-submission-rules.228244/ the link (at bottom) to memory leaks tutorial should link here: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/things-that-leak.35124/ because the other one is outdated

and in this outdated one http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/basic-memory-leaks.5889/ the link to Leak Checker is not working as the tool is removed

Hmm... something has survived in this sticky. There is still one [highlight] left here.

It is my belief there are more of such issues in the entire THW site. Tag was not parsed during conversion imho, please see here for another example.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/graphic-design-illustration-guidelines.221228/
Whoa, the pic in this sticky is simply gorgeous. Well worth the fix.

Post talks about most people complaining about images stretching out their screen. Not sure it is relevant anymore with Hive 2.

Okay, i think it's fixed now(HumanUITile01.blp), but i don't have the power to fix the broken link(in the UI sticky thread):

197699-albums4412-picture78491.png
197699-albums4412-picture78481.png
.
So, can someone replace it please?

Posting rules

Magtheridon96's Posting Etiquette:

  • If you say C/C++, I will hurt you.
  • If you ask what language is "the best", I will hurt you.
  • If you quote Donald Knuth, I will hurt you.
  • If you fan-boy Java, I will hurt you.
  • If you say "Java is the future", I will hurt you.

^should be removed.

Statharas' Posting Etiquette:
^This line probably, too. Forum rules should be always be written like being presented by the site, not by a single person. : )

__________

Triggers & Scripts - Read Before Posting!

Tagging Procuedures
  • When a GUI tag is assigned to a thread, the thread is about GUI. Do not use Custom Script except when absolutely necessary! The only case in which Jass may be brought up in such threads is when it is agreed that the question cannot be solved using GUI.
  • When a JASS or vJass tag is assigned to a thread, the thread is about JASS/vJass. Do not bring GUI triggers into the thread.
  • An AI tag is more to describe the subject of the thread, as there is no specific way in which these must be written.
I don't support the first two points. They are just irrelevant. All codes are supported in general, "even" if one uses custom scripts in his GUI, or has one GUI trigger and one JASS trigger which relate somehow.
So the third point would stay, but it's self explaining actually. I don't think we need definitions for the tags. When a coder is about to post his code he probably will know if he is making an AI, is using GUI or JASS in most cases. And limiting a thread to only one aspect is senseless anyways.

In this forum you may request help with the following:
  • Triggers
  • JASS scripts
  • vJass scripts
  • Zinc scripts
  • LUA scripts (relating to their dynamic use with WarCraft III)
WurstScript is supported, too, since a while I believe in our fourms.

If you need help getting started on a trigger, spell, or simply asking general questions, the World Editor Help Zone is where you need to post.
^This line in middle can be removed. We already defined the forum's purpose on very top.

1.

I am not so sure I should just remove the name "Statharas". The constant saying of "I will hurt you" is worse when the author is not even mentioned. I think this calls for a rewrite or just a complete removal.

2.

It must have been written for a reason. I don't think tags should be this strict. Let's try to dig up the reasoning though. @PurgeandFire, @Rui, can you comment on this?

3.?

You quoted something at the bottom without saying anything about it.

2. I think it was to raise awareness to the tags. We were pretty strict about when to use [Solved] tags too. I think these were all so that people could easily search and find exactly what they want--and if they went into a GUI thread, they'd see GUI only.

But I think it is okay to relax the rule a bit now. It seems like everyone has gotten used to the system, and the mixing happens occasionally anyway. So I'm okay with removing those two points.

I'm not sure what you mean. I suggested to remove these "I will hurt you" phrases completly.

My tags were accidently broken. Inside the quotes there is actually also my content. That's fixed:

  • Zinc scripts

^This is already defined on very top actually, so this line randomly placed in the middle can be removed.

Taking a look at the Arena forum & all the Contest-related stickies...
  • This thread doesn't contain any templates for Hero Contests (I would not mind providing one ;P)
  • In Rules and Contest Guidelines, it seems pretty well written & organized... Except for the section underneath the "Contest Leadership" heading. The first bullet seems to say that only Staff (from that section) will be Hosts, while the 2nd says that "anyone can be a Host".
  • In the afore-linked "Contest Templates" thread, it seems like the Contest Poll template could use some editing... For one, the header "Contest Rules & Conditions" is off (it's not a Contest, but a Poll; and there are no Conditions, really all just Rules). For two, even that seems weird; all the "Rules" are really just extensions of the Disclaimer at the bottom (generally Polls' are pretty straightforward; only modified Polls really need a "Rules" section IMO). For three, speaking of which, the Disclaimer section could really stand to be reworded for clarity & professionalism; it could probably take all the "Rules" (some of which are just restated needlessly in the Disclaimer) & be rewritten a bit. Below I have provided a version for consideration.

disclaimer.png
Inviting your friends to vote for you, bribing random members with rep and otherwise cheating with the VB poll system will get you DISQUALIFIED, BANNED from future contests, -REPPED, and possibly INFRACTED. So don't do it!

This includes, but is not limited to, sending PMs out to various users, getting other people to send those PMs, advertising this contest on other sites with the intention to gain more votes (whether it is explicitly stated or not), and so on. If you are suspected of cheating, the staff will notify you and interrogate you (hopefully) over PMs. <3

disclaimer.png
Contests at the Hive Workshop are meant to be executed legitimately and equitably. As such they are subject to stringent anti-cheating measures. Any of the following:
  • Utilizing alternate Hive accounts to Vote
  • Inviting other users to Vote for you
  • Bribing other users (e.g. with Reputation or other favors)
  • Sending PMs out to various users (or having other users send those PMs)
  • Advertising this Poll on other sites (i.e. with the intention to gain more votes (whether it is explicitly stated or not))
  • Any other kind of gaming, hacking, or illegitimate behavior with the site's Polling system
are considered cheating. If you are suspected of cheating, the Staff will get involved. If they are satisfied that you have you cheated, you may be given negative Reputation, be Disqualified, be Banned from future Contests, and perhaps will even get Site infractions.

So please, be respectful & Vote appropriately.

(Even with the above, there are some things I have questions about (we seriously can't send PMs about the Contest? Even as Host to notify users/moderators?), but that can be resolved later.)

You have probably noticed that I've edited several sticky threads already, even though I'm kind of behind schedule on account of me juggling half time studies with full time work.

If you spot any errors, feel free to correct me ITT.

Done so far.

Taking a look at the Arena forum & all the Contest-related stickies...
We've been in the process of updating the templates for eons. There was never any real progress with it.

@Archian, if you hook me up with the graphics, I'll sort out the threads. Been thinking about merging the template and resource threads into one.

Alternatively, if you people have your own ideas for a future contest template, feel free to submit one and we'll check them out.

I will also update the standard rules for each contest type, because most of them have items that aren't relevant anymore, are poorly written, or are completely redundant. So far I've gotten one set from Sin'dorei300 for icons, and one set from KILLCIDE for zephyr.

Tutorial Forum: Standards, Expectations, and Information
Remove your signature.
A lot of times it won't matter, but sometimes a signature may be a bit distracting. It is just not needed in that post, so you can leave it out. I am not super strict about this rule, but we all prefer to not have signatures in the submissions. :)
^That's outdated. Removing signature is no longer site supported.

How to properly format a tutorial - Please read before posting!
^This links to invalid thread "guidines", I'm not sure where it had linked before.
It also says something about removing sigantures, which is outdated.
It does actually only cover how to use colors and sized texts, which can be quickly added in PurgeAndFire's point under:
A tutorial may be rejected due to improper explanations, bad grammar, bad techniques, or a lack of images.
Suggestion:
A tutorial may be rejected due to improper explanations, bad grammar, bad visuals bad techniques, or a lack of images.
And then in the paragraph adding a short statement, like:
Colors and BB code can help to make your tutotrial more attractive. Though, be aware that too much formatting, like coloring each part of the normal text, is prohibited.
Formatting should only help to outline important informations and to keep things sorted.

So I think the one linked by Pyritie is not really useful anymore. I suggest we can remove it when we do the slightly edit in Purge's Guide.

JASS Submission Rules
Do not include your signature in the posts where your users derive their code from. This is to keep each resource official and prominent in their respective thread entries.
^Same with signature. It's outdated.
