Q: What is Lore & Legends?
A: Lore & Legends is a rebranding for all existing and future Warcraft 3 projects created by OutsiderXE. It implies all of these projects share the same detailed continuity.

What a journey it's been. The original Lord of the Clans started development in 2002, when the original Warcraft 3 was released. Never in my life did I imagine that I would still be working on this campaign over 20 years later. After so many updates we get to play it with voice acting and in glorious HD. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoy making it. Thank you, and onto the next 20 years of Warcraft!

Quite a precious and artful campaign which could use some balancing here and there especially in VS and boss fights to make things more challenging and fun (oh shoot; I guess it has something to do with the default difficulty being Story which I guess...

Woah there cowboy. Is this considerably different from the original xD?
Why a new thread, and more importantly delete the previous instead of updating :|?
Both versions share the same gameplay foundation, similar to how multiple variations of "Scourge of Lordaeron" exist.

Going forward the HD version will be the one to receive major updates (content/gameplay/audio/visuals), while the SD version is the "Classic" version to remain the same forever (aside from bugfixing), similar how WoW separates Retail and Classic.

Presenting both of them on a single resource page would heavily take away from each of them has to offer.

Let me know if you disagree and maybe we can think of a solution together.

If they are quite different (let's say like more than just a quality of life and visual/artistic enhancement edit) it's OK to have its own thread IMO, otherwise, the campaign files can be downloaded separately from the same thread and have their own description section in the same map thread description. What say you?

As you see, the "marketing" is now in full force. Changing the presentation for HD and SD would take some time. For the moment, I would like to have a clean cut between the projects, and have some time to think of how they be presented in a different way. I'm thinking about bundling the older versions as well (1.0 and 2.0 were very different from the current 3.0).

You know your stuff better and are vastly more experienced in what you do. I just want stuff properly organized around here.
Not sure what marketing has to do with it exactly since the news post can have its link changed no problems.
I guess if you are going to have those Classic variations, then cluttering one thread wouldn't be a good idea. So the Reforged one might definitely use its own space.

I agree. My vision is that I would use a single "Classic" thread for the various SD versions, while the HD version is promoted as the modern "standard" Lord of the Clans.

Its not just the Hive link that has to change. Potentially news websites are going to link here.

Even more awesome, thanks for your work.

Few points to improve even if it's not much :
  • From chapter 2 to 3, it didn't save my items/lvl etc... first time, I don't know if it's rare or not but it happened to me. I reloaded last autosave and then worked fine.
  • On chapter 3, researches cost are shown 10 times cheaper for some reasons, it fixes if you reload the map. It does happen pretty often, I don't know what causes it and only on this chapter.
  • On the scene where Thrall and Thareta talks for last time, Thrall has body turned the wrong way, but face the right way, which is both creepy and fun to watch.
  • On the last chapter, Whirlwind of Thrall (W tornado) hurts allies too.
  • Sometimes cinematics arn't smooth, like playing on 1 fps. It might be me or be WC3 reforged, so I'm just pointing out.
  • Not really your fault, as I suppose most voices are AI generated, but voices do feel off some times.

I really wish to try this campaign, but very unfortunately it crashes on macOS
1) M3 MacBook (Sonoma 14.1) 2023 (right after first mission starts, cinematic with a clock is shown aaand crash).
2) intel MacBook (Sonoma 14.3.1) 2018 (cinematic does not even start, just black screen and crash right after "click any button after mission load")


If it has any use to you, I can share a full crash log (it says EXC_BAD_ACCESS and unreadable stack trace addresses)

Hey, I wanted to play the campaign while I try to chill a bit, and the description mentions an Italian translation, but when I open the campaign, it's entirely in English. Do I need to download a specific version for it to work or it should work automatically?

Hello, the italian translation is actually not implemented yet :/ It will be released in a few months.

I just finished playing the Reforged version and I am amazed!
I remember playing the classic version and saying this can't improve. I'm glad I was wrong.
Here's what I have in detail

Terrain: The terrain design is nothing short of breathtaking! Each map is meticulously crafted, blending lush forests, daunting mountains, and eerie dungeons seamlessly. The attention to detail in the landscapes enhances the visual appeal and adds depth to the overall immersion. Every corner of the map feels alive, and the varied environments keep the gameplay fresh and engaging.

Gameplay: The gameplay is a perfect balance of challenge and fun. The custom units and abilities are well-thought-out, offering a new layer of strategy while maintaining the essence of Warcraft. The missions are diverse, ranging from intense battles to clever puzzles, ensuring that we the players are constantly on our toes. The AI is smart and responsive, providing a worthy challenge without feeling unfair.

Mechanics: The mechanics are innovative and well-implemented. The new features blend seamlessly with the existing mechanics of Warcraft Reforged, enhancing the overall experience. From resource management to unit control, everything feels intuitive and polished. The custom mechanics add a layer of depth that makes the gameplay even more engaging.

I am running into crashes at the custom campaign menu. I even deleted the campaign file and it kept doing it. Only two custom files in there are this and Tides of Darkness, both W3N files. Blizzard also updated WC3 right before I gave this a go. Reinstalled the game, still a bust.

This campaign is pretty cool, even if the voices sometimes feels extremely robotic. (And character mouths sometimes go crazy.)

At a certain point in the campaign, you can farm up to 3000 gold with Pillage and two enemy workers, which combined with tree farming (40413 wood as we speak) gives an enormous edge in most fights.

I love playing hero campaign cause they are easier to follow and just simply easier to pass than normal WCIII gameplay, and this one has upgrades, compagnions and more! (The elementals are also extremely overpowered, but on the other side if you use them you cannot use the spell damage enhancer.)

Found a fix in case anyone else runs into this issue. I deleted my Documents\Warcraft III\Campaigns\ folder and tried again, and now the Custom Campaign menu pulls up without crashing. Also, it might be helpful to not do what I did, and instead, follow the author's instructions in order of operations :wink: namely, update WC3 first -- that might have goofed it up.

I just completed the campaign and it was amazing, I loved it.
This was exactly the type of campaign I expected when I purchased Reforged. The storytelling and cinematics were tremendous.
The only thing I didn't like was the sound of baby Thrall crying. For this sound file, maybe it could have been taken from the Warcraft movie.
I'm looking forward to your future projects.
Thank you very much for your efforts, please keep on it.

Not tested on QM; I think it could work as it doesn't rely on external files.
So ok it works wonders, only played though ch 1 and 2 yet. Only glitch i found was that when Thrall is wounded on bed with Blackmoore and his lackeys beating him, his model disappears into the bed and is only represented by a bloody mess. Idk if fixable or not, otherwise works perfectly

Hey OutsiderXE, this is truly an Epic and Awesome Campaign!
Never seen such cool voices, mechanics and levels, thanks mate!

Yet another masterpiece in quality like Chronicles of the Second War.
Great skill variety, love campfire mechanics as well.
The only thing I wish you fixed is to make Thrall ALWAYS be at F1 position at all stages of all missions and so F1, F2, F3 positions go in the same order when units are selected as a group.
Outside of this tiny inconvenience, it was a marvelous experience.

I had to create an account just to say with misty eyes, THANK YOU! i loved reading these books when i was a kid. and to be able to actually live through and "be there" with thrall, Khadgar, and Ronin on their journeys is just something i never thought i would ever get to experience ever. So again THANK SO MUCH!!!!

After a lot of tinkering, I finally managed to get Quenching to run Reforged at 60+ fps. Your campaign looks like a whole new game, the level of cinematics is unmatched. I will try to record and upload my full playthrough in Quenching graphics. Here is the opening cinematic, this thing looks good enough to be called WarCraft IV

  1. Looks bad that the orc/horde logo sits on top of the Lord of The Clans logo in loading screens. Also, Lord of the Clans is written 2 times.
  2. Some animations during cinematic scenes would look better in slower motion.
  3. Do not fancy undeletable autosave files.
  4. A bit strange that you can freely move albeit in a linear fashion around the underground(?) complex. Also strange that the old teacher became what seemed a zombie for some reason?
  5. Same with the orc undead and the rest risen skeletons in there; feels like the Scourge of Lordaeron started earlier.
  6. Weird that the bookshelf highlights after each round although you can't choose anything after the third spell for at least two rounds.
  7. In chapter 2 some enemies can be drawn near the fire blockades and attacked. Items can be taken from them after they are killed.
  8. Lieutenant Drake can cast spells from behind the gate when you are fighting a footman.
  9. Not sure if breaking the rock chunk on the fire blockade near the dog would help release it but it did nothing. NVM, it was using Waterskin that was needed. I thought they were meant to be for putting campfires out.
  10. Not sure if intended but bandits can net each other.
  11. Keys could be variables not to occupy inventory slots.
  12. Would definitely want to avoid seeing the map edges. Warcraft III, even in Reforged mode, isn't ready for it.
  13. A tad nuisance is consuming letters and losing the info. Could be put in the optional quest description.
  14. Thrall the lumberjack maniac.
  15. Only need the nearest catapult to take down both towers and the barracks which only has time to spawn one bandit. Should start spawning once any of the buildings (i.e. either of the towers) is being damaged.
  16. Sure, why not simply rest near the human encampment(s).
  17. Question is why would they aid Thrall in escaping rather than themselves, these orcs who just met him.
  18. For how much lumber he can pack each map, he could become a magnate.
  19. In chapter 3 for some reason Whirlwind was chosen even though I had Raging Strike.
  20. Not sure if intended but after enemies cast so spells like AoE Thunder Clap/War Stomp or knockback/shockwave something, they stop doing anything for a few seconds.
  21. Bears are fighting spiders but they both prioritize the player's units.
  22. Stone doesn't mention damage and stun duration.
  23. Not sure if intended but Jimmy runs like a retard deeper into the gnoll territory to the north once he gets out of the cage.
  24. Why are these gnolls invisible? Would be nice to have some optional quest with ghosts or something to make that item more useful than just have it occupy an inventory slot for the main quest.
  25. Sometimes you get netted even if outside of the area.
  26. Not sure if intended but the backpack position remains where Thrall last was while he's in the ship.
  27. Unlocked Whirlind 2 means level 2? No other 2 for the previous spells though until now.
  28. Tried taking the orcs from the camp with the ship but they were not interested xD
  29. Funny thing with the orch lethargy is that they're still bulky xD
  30. Fishing a certain fish caused the result to spawn a Murloc which I reckon should be able to swim but was stuck on the other side. Killed it with Earthshock. There's another one south of the wizard. Also one near the mortar who kept shooting at it but which could reach the mortar and footman near the team.
  31. Chain Lightning Wand doesn't say how much it deals.
  32. Unlocked Knockback 3; damage is now 120 from 90 but it's confusing that it still says level 1 in the custom ability menu. Actually, on Thrall's command card too.
  33. Insane cave elves xD
  34. But why "Run, I will protect you?" Why would he/they care about him. Did they even really know him?
  35. Generally, boss battles (even those as against Hellscream) need to be less robotic. Knockback can send them away and get them to move in the opposite direction from Thrall once the spell ends and leaving the enemy idle.
  36. How did the humans get in the cave to listen to the orcs talk and Thrall talking human language?
  37. This lake is freezing but not for critters.
  38. Sometimes, the fire pit can automatically select the inventory.
  39. Since the Pig Catcher targets units, you can't really miss.
  40. Why is the big pig called Spirit Pig? I get the unit it's based on but it doesn't make sense to have that name.
  41. What's a bounty hunter doing locked behind a gate in a gnoll camp/territory xD? Same with the Yetis and Harpies. Are they locked by the gnolls there? It feels they are out of their natural place.
  42. Reached Earthshock 4 but it still has the damage of the first.
  43. The issue with quests like Gift of the Wilds is that they force you to use certain spells.
  44. During Draka and Durotan's tale, some gnolls are invulnerable; not sure if intended.
  45. Unfunny thing about the elemental battles is that the bosses are weaker than the troops towards them.
  46. Thrall the animal farm killer.
  47. Kind of immersion breaking that you can see invulnerable orcs near enemy Alliance units which stand idly and only become vulnerable and attack when getting near them.
  48. While it's nice to have creature and unit variety, I feel introducing dwarves and other non-human things for the internment camps kills the idea of Durnholde and Blackmoore being the bad guy and gives too much of a systemic racism vibe to the Alliance.
  49. One of the caches wasn't properly shown on the minimap. Had to use Earthquake on the zone to destroy what was invisible there and finish the quest. A potion of speed spawned too which is good at least.
  50. Going south towards Drek'Thar's zone, a grunt and a shaman become yours and just stood idly face to face with two elven knights.
  51. Can buy the attribute bonus items when Thrall is far away and the gold is take without any attribute being given.
  52. Definitely not necessary to have any healing runes during the Langston fight.
  53. One of the red peons was idle.
  54. In the last chapter you can stack a lot of lumber that's not very useful in the long run. Maybe make another "upgrade" in the Mill to get gold for lumber to buy attributes?
  55. One Shaman remained idle on the path to the keep.
  56. Barracks don't play their stand work animation when training; units simply appear near the entrance.
  57. Possibly intended for your allies not to kill the two commanders but troops stack and remain right after passing the keep gates, on all lanes. Well, you can draw the enemy heroes to your troops. Doesn't really matter since there's a fire pit to the west so it's even easier.
  58. An unnecessary rune again fighting Aedelas.

Quite a precious and artful campaign which could use some balancing here and there especially in VS and boss fights to make things more challenging and fun (oh shoot; I guess it has something to do with the default difficulty being Story which I guess is easy rather than normal). Wonder if you'll ever do a Warcraft Adventures version.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.
