I personally can't stand death metal. Thrash metal is as far as I go and i don't like straying away from the classics. I'm sorry, but Slipknot is not much better than that linkin park/green day crap.

Townsend and Buckethead can't compare to Alexi Laiho and other metal guitarists.

I respect your opinion, and Alexi is most certainly a worthy axeman, but there's something creatively unique about both of Devin Townsend's and Buckethead's styles, individually. Hendrix is so amazing, not because he could play the guitar with utter technical perfection, but because of what he created with the guitar and the level of quality and dedication with which he played it and experimented with it. Though neither of the two comes anywhere near Hendrix in this respect, I recognize the same style and creativity in their music. Or maybe that's a load of shit, and it's only because I'm more of a progressive guy. Or I could just be ignorant of Alexi's skill in these areas, as I haven't really been following him or Children of Bodom at all.

It's not singing, but it conveys something raw and different that fits the music so perfectly.

I agree 100% with this. I meant what I said in no negative way, it was actually inspired by something dumb a friend said earlier today about this sort of vocals, but on the other hand it seems to me that the guttural vocals have become somewhat hyped (clichéed if you will) as well as becoming an unnecessary staple for heavy metal as a whole. Only a few bands actually do this convincingly, Dark Tranquility and Strapping Young Lad (Devin Townsend again) among them.

What do we call slipknot then?

slipknot is nu metal, and personally nu metal/mallcore is not metal at all it fits in with the utter crap of music like the Shaggs (ugh....)

EDIT: Btw, don't listen to them (Shaggs and Slipknot), its bad, just bad

Rob Zombie is not really metal. I saw him on concert with Ozzy in January. He's good, but not metal. Same with Disturbed. Disturbed isn't metal, that's like quasi-hardrock-metal. It's like saying Tool is metal. Tool is GODLY, but they aren't a metal band.

As well, not all 'nu metal' sucks. Korn basically created the genre, and they're quite good. Linkin Park was fine back when no one knew who they were, aka Hybrid Theory/Meteora.

well i don't only listen to metal, its just that 90% consists of metal...i like rap and hip hop some of which i like include eminem, tupac shakur, biggie smalls (The Notorius B.I.G.), and Nas.

I apologize for saying nu metal is bad, its fine if you like and accpet bands like slipknot and/or are nu metal but its not fine when you incorrectly define a band's genre.

I mainly listen to rock, but I also listen to some country, sometimes Bob Marley (yeah, he's cool), classics (like Mozart) and other instrumental stuff.

BTW, what kind of metal does Iron, Judas and Ozzy are? "Classic Metal"? 'Cause they just "founded" the metal...

I'm just wondering..

What is the real reason you like rap/hip hop? Do you want to be cool? Do you listen to it because all of your friends listen to it? Do you actually like it?

Tell me.

Yeah, he's making his last album, called Detox. It's been in production since before 2001 was released. Still D.R.E is probably his best song. Mind you, Bitches Ain't Shit is old school. Both of these songs come from his two albums: The Chronic (1991) and 2001 (1999). Both are amazing albums, despite the subject matter (Hell, even the subject matter is pretty fun if you're in the mood for it).

And the thing that sets Dr. Dre apart is that he's a perfectionist. Everything has to be absolutely perfect, so that's why he goes like 8 or 9 years between his albums. It's gotta be perfect.

I've been sifting for like 15 minutes through my songs and I can't really decide anything for this thread :/

1. 45 - Shinedown
2. Simpleman - Shinedown
I only really like "Fly from the Inside" from Shinedown, but eh I guess they're decent.

On a completely different note from these songs, I want to throw in "Rain man - slim shady" for a worthy mention.

It's just too damn hilarious, you should listen to it for a chuckle

I see rock-ish music's dominating here.

1. Lyube & Sergei Bezrukov - берёзы [Russian]
2. Louis Armstrong - Mack The Knife [Afro-American]
3. Hero Soundtrack - For The World (theme music) [Chinese]
4. Ennio Morricone - For A Few Dollars More (theme music) [Italian]
5. Duffy - Warwick Avenue [Brittish]
6. Notre-Dame de Paris musical, Julie Zenatti - La Monture [French]
7. Elton John & Luciano Pavarotti - Live Like Horses [Brittish & Italian]
8. Clifford Gilberto - The 10th Victim [Brasilian]
9. Freestylers - Feel The Panic [Brittish]
10. T.Love - Ajrisz [Polish]

1. Louis Armstrong
2. dunno
3. I really can't choose, besides Louis

It was hard to compose that list. I didn't aim for the top 10, thou some of them would be on such list. I wanted to show the variety (from which some is still missing). I really love movie soundtracks, cinema music, to list a few, Hero, Gladiator, LotR, Man on Fire, stuff by Ennio Morricone. Black music, Armstrong in the first place, also a bit of rap. Clifford Gilberto (I like all his works) and Freestylers (only their first album, in fact) are both electronic, though different styles. T.Love is a rock/pop Polish band, wanted to place some song from my motherland here (other bands - Lady Pank, Czesław Niemen, few others). I didn't place that on the list, but I like Irish and Welsh traditional music (Pied Pipers, Carreg Lafar, Loreena McKennit). I'll end now, unless someone wants to discuss further ;P
