New Avalon Campaign (Campaign)

A nice campaign for WoW undead fans, with some cool cinematic angles. The Lich King does no little more than talk, however. The blessing of difficulty options means maintaining sanity. Approved. If you want more reviews, you should participate in...

This is a campaign from the Chinese language warcraft 3 community. Hopefully we can "give back" in the sense that by sharing many campaigns from their community, it will inspire Hiveworkshop creators to make more campaigns, and then their community can play those campaigns when their translators bring Hive campaigns to their community (so in this way, they can benefit also).

Important:
This campaign has a randomized item drop system. For RPG missions, the randomized drop is normally from named Boss units, while for RTS missions, it is the first time an enemy hero dies/main building dies. Some of the later missions go a lot smoother if you have better items, especially on harder difficulties, so it might be worth considering using quick save/load f5/f6 before you kill one of those units mentioned above to try to get the best item drop.

Interesting story, I just have one comment, do the Chinese community enjoy being tortured? Because all the maps from this creator have above-normal difficulty. Like, the enemy heroes one-hit kill my two heroes, it's absurd. I noticed this already in the second map. It's a good campaign, and I still plan to finish the rest

Having played several of them now... yes, that does seem to be the case :hohum:

is pirated
Unfortunately, the new client doesn't support previous versions. REFORGED makes it impossible to run custom games on older versions, in other words, the REFORGED client, which is the most commonly used today, only allows you to play on REFORGED versions. I recommend buying the game, believe me, it's much better than it was 5 years ago.

what about easy? any difference? Im planning to play this campaign, but I'm not gonna waste my time if its hard for the sake of being hard.

Look, compared to Arkain, this campaign is like a walk in the park. I found it easy, only the enemy heroes are difficult (But of course, it can be frustrating to lose your progress because of the enemy heroes, who really ARE difficult.)

Note: It seems, @tulee, that the author has learnt his issues with difficulty marking, and this campaign plays very, very smoothly!

OVERALL, I liked this campaign - I wanted to see someday a prequel to the events of WoW Death Knight Starting Questline, which is the best questline any WoW Class had (maybe Demon Hunter is in follows, ending with Evoker). We saw new characters, and I saw how familiar Death Knights were created.
Story is smooth, gameplay is smooth, but there is one weird idea - if you don't complete the forge master side quest in chapter 1, you won't be able to complete it in the following chapters, since this "forge master" keeps reappearing and the quest log still provides a phantom side quest. I would suggest tracking player progress and not showing this side quest in the quest log if you didn't complete it in the first chapter.

In terms of BALANCE - finally easy difficulty felt like an easy one, which is unusual for "Scarlet Frenzy I" author... He-he.

In conclusion: 10 Jaina cleavage photos in the ending credits out 10.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

hi there there is only one use for the pick axe? i mean i found the journal
but i dont see the void for the 2nd update of thunderbolt
aaah i see i found it. what is this logic? a ghost have a rly cool material lmaooo

General:

Unholy Aura buff is a green square.

Poison Fangs is available to research before Gargoyles are. Also "Deals" -> "Gargoyle attacks deal"

Shop items:
  • Restoration Potion -> Restoration Scroll
  • Manipulation Scepter: Why Manipulation?
Darion's revival line is still "For the Horde!".

Putricide's ultimate tooltip shouldn't call him a Stitched Golem (admittedly I don't know what you're supposed to call a ghoul in a robot tank).

First level:

Intro text cuts off at "Inigo Montoy. He"

Map edge is visible in the intro cutscene.

Dryad quote doesn't always line up with the message.

Sidequest doesn't get a message.
  • Why "Self-Destructive" Killer?
  • ... Princess Busta? Really?
  • Why a potion of omniscience?

Second part of the map should be blocked off until you reach Siouxie, it looks empty.

Why the tutorial lines?

All NE units cost 1 food, is that intended?

Bandits should send small attacks/there should be more creeps in the second part of the map, just waiting to build troops is boring.

Second level:

hide decisively -> ?

... Valencia the Whore? Really?

Needs more creeps so you can get gold early on.

Night Elf player has no name (the ones guarding the mine and graveyard, not the Blade of the Moon ones).

Sidequest message could be clearer about where to look (e.g. the guy saying he left it in the barrels near the trees instead of the quest mentioning trees).
  • unintentionally have -> have unintentionally
  • You need to find -> You will need to find

Revived [Unit] -> Reanimated [Unit]

Third level:

Loading screen should explain why they're here.

First boss should not have a Phoenix summon, you literally have nothing that can attack it at this point.

.... Ahahahaha no. If the level requires an ally's base to survive, they have to be able to survive, not wait for their units to die.

Paladin messages calls him Giles, his name is different.

Three melee heroes, no orb for sale. What.

Main quest: remnant -> surviving

Is the whirlpool supposed to do anything?

All that talk about the defenses making it impossible to use the flying base, and it doesn't even get used once the towers are down?

sees your face hidden in the darkness -> How're they supposed to see it if it's hidden?

Auston -> Austin

So does the flower item do anything?

Fourth level:

This one was a lot better, at least the first phase. Then you get the last base defended by spells that kill heroes in seconds, a final boss who can fully-heal himself when he's not invulnerable, the allied armies from the sidequest disappearing...

Valkyrie responses are too long, maybe switch them around so the longer ones are warcries or pissed responses.

Why B for the Valkyr building hotkey? And maybe give it a different name than "Temple".

Some of the Lich King's lines don't correspond exactly to what he's saying. "There is no Light" / "The Light does not exist", etc.

Remik's hero class is "Crusade Lord", he calls himself "Crusader Lord".

Epilogue

Corpses should be made permanent for the cutscene.

Other death knights should have SFX that shows them to be immobilized.

Using a standard villager for young Darion looks kinda bland, maybe use a Captain or Footman.

Should there be music playing during Darion's confrontation? It's weird to hear them yelling where there's no other noise.

Credits: ... Maybe use a less boob-centric image?

Overall, the plot was a bit more interesting, but it had potential to be much more. Like, we start with a Night Elf turning into a Death Knight, but she stops existing as a character afterwards.

Enemy AoE spam is still infuriating, they can take out heroes and defenses in seconds.

No orbs for sale or dropped anywhere and only melee heroes is not a good combo.

Fixed the grammar/spelling/missing translations Cleavinghammer mentioned.
Thought I would add some notes I wrote down from when I first played this campaign:

Ch1
This was a very hard first map. Needed to hold off both Night Elf forces until the two heroes were level six and then break one of the based.
There was no reason to fortify the expansion to the east, since if we fought with the Night Elf on the left, the Night Elf on the right would just rush to that battle and ignore my goldmine even though it was right there as the army passed by.
For the push to break the first base, I used mass Necromancers, and gargoyles for anti-air, with abominations tanking initially.
I almost missed the adamantium item crate in graveyard. That was very hard to find.

Ch2
I just rushed to the ally base and ignored everything I didn't need to kill.
Thank goodness the goldmine had 30k+ gold.
The Phoenix and Void Monster being so close together is hilarious.
Anti Air Gargoyles were basically useless against the Phoenix hero, so I was forced to use the spider web item and melee it to death.
Flesh Giants as the front line and Acherus Knights (Anti-Magic Shell and Death Coil for healing, they stayed in the rear back, was the only combination that was useful in this map. All my other units died too fast to the enemy spells and heroes.
I never found that creature that was mind controlling the Crypt Fiends. I guess we needed to use dust somewhere?

Ch3
Rushing the base directly to my left was the easiest strategy here. I didn't attack the gates until I was ready for the final push on the main enemy base.
Flesh Giants cannot be resurrected by Valkyr (maybe because they are spell resistant?), so for this mission it was just Abominations and Valkyr.

Epilogue
Epic final battle. Loved the music.

General Points
I really enjoyed all the RTS missions in this campaign. It was very challenging. I liked how in all 3 maps, we faced different enemies, so it didn't get stale (Night Elves, Krin Tor and Scarlet Crusade).

Overall a fun campaign that follows up after Warcraft 3 albeit it is rather short. Missions weren't as hard as the past ones from the same author like the ones in Scarlet Frenzy so there is that.

It's a good short campaign. I like it. Just find it ridiculous that this guy seemed desperate in the cut-scene where he appeared on, saying we need to hold our ground, it's too late. Can't wait for reinforcements. But then, he's basically a god in the battlefield and can't deal any damage to him. He's stronger than all the demigods and Sargeras combined.
