WELL... I; being the big asshole that I am; have finished judging. Ive submitted the judging to pyritie. But i would like to thank all the contestants who joined and submitted entries. Not all the submissions got an award, but all the submissions were useful and creative.... (and at the risk of sounding like a "socialist soccermom" as some would put it) EVERYONE DID A GREAT JOB. So be proud of yourselves

Thanks a lot for judging anarchianbedlam.
When will we see the results?
I can't really believe that you find my ultra low poly armadillo useful, but thanks again :D

Are you still mad about the socialist soccer mom thing? XD

Anyway, who else is judging? Or do we just have one judge?

(Bob realizes that his model had far too many polies to do well. But, he is still curios.)

No, I'm not mad, I'm just pointing out that whenever someone congratulates everyone, even non-winners, they are automatically branded socialist soccer-moms. :/ i didn't make the rules, i just work here.

That is not anywhere near what I meant by "everyone is a winner mentality". But, yeah, I'm a bastard.

Anyway, as a followup question to my last one about the judging, what are the percentiles going to be? Did we ever decide if we are going to have a poll or not?

zomg judging

For the sake of my sanity and because there are more contestants than the last modeling contest, (and because this is a mini-modeling contest) this is a less detailed judging. BUT, everyone did a wonderful job, good work guys.

Chilla_Killa

Many pieces not connected to eachother and
separate portrait model was pointless
Dan Van Ohllus

Simple but very well done, some parts of the geoset
in the animations stretch a bit, but are otherwise
fine

Devine

Proportions are completely off, you should have used
more polies, Also, the eyes should have been a
geoset, not a particle
emitter
DonDustin

Great texture, great mesh, realistic walrus, but no
swim animations and some geoset stretching
HappyCockroach

2ndPLACE

Superb model, good use of ingame textures, good
animations, both land and water animations, very
thorough but UV wrap could have used work, very
noticeable SEAMS
JustSpectating

Very simple model to make, seems to work fine
ingame except for the death animation, during the
death animation, the model starts shaking
uncontrollably.... like, worse than Michael J Fox
Killabong

Wing texture SHOULD have been 2 sided, and the
eyes are transparent. simple model
Kitabatake

3rdPLACE

Lol, this one made me laugh, but it would actually
look quite good in an apocalyptic map or cinematic.
Not necessarily what some would consider a "critter"
but it looks great ingame.
Mr.Bob

Cute, but it doesn't have a decay.... again. Seems a
little highpoly for such a simple-looking critter. But
nothing our computers cant handle i suppose
Pyramidhe@d

1stPLACE

Incredible, great use of ingame textures, cute bird,
but i was impressed with the custom animations,
very lifelike, looks a bit more like a parrot, but
amazing nonetheless
Shamanyouranus

Very well done model, but jellyfish are simple
creatures, and as such, a simple model. The texture
is bland, but there's not much you can do with a
jellyfish, i kind of wonder how useful this would be as
an actual critter.... jellyfish aren't really visible from
above the water.... maybe an underwater map i
suppose. Good death animation
Skrab

Very creative, finding nemo+little mermaid. The
webbing between the arms and as eyebrows are
invisible from far away, and look weird up close.
Animations are serviceable but seem stiff.
Tee.Dubs

Interesting. looks like a fat newt, good use of ingame
textures, but death swim and decay swim animations
leave much to be desired.

We had some truly wonderful submissions and I hope that everyone had fun making these.

chilla_killa:

Mesh – 4/10

Well... Simple mesh, nothing special, nothing exciting. Although it serves it's purpose well.

Textures – 5/10

Standard Blizzard textures and not exactly the best ones, but they fit and don't look horrible wrapped on the model.

Animations – 4/10

The in-game sheep animations, nothing special, and they don't look so good either. The death animation is really weird, he collapses into parts as though as he was a robot or something.

Creativity – 2/5

Well, it's an armadillo. It's not the most creative thing ever, but the idea is quite nice.

Total – 14/35

All in all, the model is quite simple and I honestly think you can do better. As a WC3 critter, it fits quite well, however it's very simple and looks messy.

Dan van Ohllus:

Mesh – 9/10

The mesh on your model is good, it's not too complex and not too simple and quite low-poly, yet it looks very round and smooth. I really have no complaints here.

Textures – 8/10

Standard blizzard textures, and yet they fit very good and look great on the model. Using the shark texture was very creative and I love how the bottom of the stingray is white and smooth. My only complaint would be that the eyes don't look very much like eyes, but I honestly can't think of a better texture or piece of the shark textures to base the eyes on.

Animations – 8/10

The Couatl animations fit the stingray very well. The animations look very smooth, even though there are a few minor clipping problems, and the death animations looks a little strange. All in all, the animations are very smooth and clean and fit great.

Creativity – 3.5/5

A stingray may not be the most original idea, but I would definitely not think of something like that. And aquatic creatures are always useful.

Total – 28.5/35

The choice of animations and the choice of textures are my favorite parts of this model. It is very smooth and clean and fits great in-game, not to talk about looking great and definitely usable in both basic WC3 maps and high-detailed cinematics and terrains.

Devine:

Mesh – 5/10

Well, I can clearly see it's a horse(or a unicorn), but the legs look very strange and kinda crooked. It is quite simple however.

Textures – 3/10

Well, to be honest... I think the texture choice is horrible. It doesn't really looks like a horse(or a unicorn), it COULD have had texture eyes and the ears could be more detailed.

Animations – 6/10

The animations fit, yet there are very few animations and they seem very fast. A proper, warcraft-ish decay animation also downgrades this model from the animation aspect. During the walk and death animations, the horse's particle-emitter eyes jump and look very strange. However, the animations seem to be the best part of the model, and don't look that bad at all.

Creativity – 2.5/5

It's a white unicorn. Yay.

Total – 16.5/35

Well, it's definitely not your best work and you could have put much more effort in this model, and I know it. If only you decided to work on it a bit more, and if you had enough time, I'm sure you could come up with something much better.

DonDustin:

Mesh – 7.5/10

Well, what can I say. It looks great, and seems very proportionate. The only problem is that some of it looks too much like the Tuskarr model. Otherwise, it's great.

Textures – 9/10

Countering what I said about the mesh, I think that re-texturing the Tuskarr and adding a few small details is a brilliant idea. It works and looks great and I really have no complaints here... Asides, possibly, from the eyes. They look very small, and a little strange, I expected to see tired and half-covered eyes instead of googly, cute black eyes.

Animations – 8/10

The animations look very smooth and very well-made. They fit great with the model and look marvelous in-game. There is a proper, working, WC3-like decay animation 'set' and the game mechanics seem to recognize it well - it works very smooth in-game. Only thing that really downgrades the animations is the death animation. It looks very stiff and unrealistic and even quite strange. If there wasn't any blood splatting out of it, I'd never think he actually died but rather moved a little.

Creativity – 4/5

It's more of a matter of personal opinion, but I think that a warlus is damn original. It also seems to be the only winter-themed model in the competition.

Total – 28.5/35

I do think it's a great model. Everything looks great and works with the other elements, the model looks very Warcraft-ish and yet very realistic and the texture is a marvelous piece of freehanded(I do think so?) work. The mesh is fantastic and it isn't too high-poly. Overall, great job.

HappyCockroach:

Mesh – 8/10

The mesh looks very good and very realistic to me. I do believe it looks otter-y enough to be recognized at sight. Overall, it's very smooth and looks very fine.

Textures – 7/10

The texture choice is great. I'd never think of using the bear's texture for an otter. However, I really don't like those nasty seams connecting his body parts. You could have easily fixed that in oinkerwinkle's Vertex Modifier. I also really like the head's wrap, even though I dislike the yellow eyes a little bit.

Animations – 10/10

Marvelous work. The animations are very smooth and very creative. My favorite parts are definitely the Swim idle animations, the walk animations and the death animation. The built-in portrait is a great bonus as well.

Creativity – 3/5

Although definitely not the most creative model, I'd say that most people would not think of an otter when thinking 'critters'.

Total – 28/35

The mesh is great, the animations are great and the texture choice is awesome. I can really only complain about those nasty seams. Otherwise, it's a damn good model. Fantastic job!

Just_Spectacting:

Mesh – 4/10

It was very basic and very simple. The skull seems to be obviously taken from the Skeleton model. I'm not sure about the wings, but even if they're scratch made, they seem very simple. I wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll comment on this here as well: The particle emitter does a fine job. It definitely adds to the 'ghostly' effect.

Textures – 3/10

The skeleton head's texture is very obvious and overused. The texture for the wings, however, is quite original. Despite that, it's very simple and it doesn't seems to have taken you too much work to wrap it up.

Animations – 5/10

I do think it's quite nice how you took the animations from the owl. I can't see anything wrong with it. Although I might be missing it and you might have actually based the model on the owl, but on the other hand it doesn't seems so and even if it is so, it's definitely not obvious. The animations actually seem very smooth, even if it's just Blizzard's animations with little to no modifications.

Creativity – 5/5

I would definitely not think of a flying, ghostly, blue-glowing skull when thinking 'critters', I'd tell you that.

Total – 17/35

Well, it's very simple, yes, but I think it fits great inside underground caverns or undead-style zones. Good job.

Killabong:

Mesh – 2/10

Okay, well, from the first look, it seems like the owl mesh with a bat head(correct me if I'm wrong). Very basic and doesn't seems to have taken a lot of work.

Textures – 2/10

The texture is very obvious, but does it's job well. The UV wrap, however, looks bad, as well as the material work. The eyes are transparent, the chest is very blurry and the wings just look weird and stretched.

Animations – 4/10

Well, basic owl animations. Not much to say, asides from how the body doesn't disappear after 'dying'.

Creativity – 2/5

Well, it's a bat, again, not much to say.

Total – 10/35

Too be honest, I think it's far too simple. The body is just an egg and the head looks very glued-on. There are quite a few faults in the model. Keep practicing and you'll eventually get there.

Kitabatake:

Mesh – 4/10

Well, it's the Villager Man mesh with stick-like things stuck in him. Not much to say here. I will once again mention the particles in the "mesh" part because I didn't really think that it would be fair to downgrade models for not using effects, as a critter mini-modeling contest would normally include little to no models with special effects; the blood particles look great, and they seem quite 'random', they don't just repeat all the time(at least it seems so to me).

Textures – 7/10

Although the textures used are quite basic and perhaps overused, I must say that I really like the use of the "gutz" texture as a bloody 'cover' to the villager. It looks great.

Animations – 7/10

Well, this is probably the most important part of the model. The animations fit very well. They seem smooth and I can actually see how the man is actually a zombie and not a blood-stained guy crawling around. The stand animations are very fitting and typical.

Creativity – 4.5/5

Although the general idea of a blood-stained zombie is quite overused, I'd say that for a critter it's very damn original.

Total – 22.5/35

Well, yeah, not my general opinion of how a critter would look or act - but that only adds to the creativity of the model. A zombie that seems quite harmless, unless he'll try to claw you or something. The model itself is quite nice, even if the mesh is very simple.

Mr.Bob:

Mesh – 7/10

It is quite high poly and perhaps over-detailed for a WC3 model, but damn, it does looks quite great(even if a bit simple). If only you've spared a few hundreds of polies...

Textures – 7/10

The textures used are very original. I'd never think it used the Lorearon Summer doodads texture if I wouldn't check in the Texture Manager\Material Manager in Magos. Although the texture does seem rather plain, especially on the star on his hat.

Animations – 8/10

The animations aren't very original, but very well-made nonetheless. I like the walk and death animations the best. If only the hat would decay into the ground...

Creativity – 4.5/5

A hoping pumpkin with a wizard hat, as a critter? Hell yes, I do think it's quite original.

Total – 26.5/35

Very nice Halloween-themed model. The main problem is the high amount of polies, in my opinion.

Pyramidhe@d:

Mesh – 8/10

The mesh is great, represents what it should represent very well. Not too many polies either. And I just love those little pointy things on the tips of it's little, flightless wings. It just looks overall adorable.

Textures – 8/10

Wow, what can I say... This is probably one of the most original uses of an in-game texture I've ever seen. The ribcage, the nostrils as eyes, the pink, rotten flesh from the vulture's beak... It all looks awesome and damn original. Only thing is that the textures seems a little blurry, most likely because of the very little space you've unwrapped the model on. However, it seems like a necessary sacrifice.

Animations – 10/10

The animations are extremely original and creative. The attack animation looks so cute and the animation in which he poops is pretty much the most creative animation I've ever seen. Overall, great work, I can't spot a single flaw.

Creativity – 4.5/5

An Undead parrot\crow hatching - quite original and I don't think I've seen something similar to this anywhere.

Total – 30.5/35

All in all, this model is really awesome. It's quite with it's animations, it's very creative, the texture choice is great, it's not too high-poly and the flaws are very minor... What else is there to want?

shamanyouranus:

Mesh – 6.5/10

Well, not exactly the most complex mesh, but it looks good and does it's job fine.

Textures – 7.5/10

The texture choice is very good. I've never thought of using the mushroom tree textures for something like that... All in all, the textures fit and look good.

Animations – 8/10

The animations are very smooth and look great. Too bad there was such a small amount of them and too bad the transition between the stand and walk animations looks... Strange, and quite noticeable in-game.

Creativity – 3/5

Not the most original model I've seen, I must say. However it's not too unoriginal and I guess that a jellyfish is definitely not that bad of a concept to use.

Total – 25/35

Well, the best part is definitely the animations - if only you've made more of them, the model would have probably receive a far higher rating from me. Come on, there's lots of ways to be creative when it comes to jellyfish!
It also fits quite well in-game in underwater environments.

skrab:

Mesh – 6/10

I don't know if it's just me, but the whole top part seems like it's just taken from the Sorceress model... Otherwise, the mesh looks fitting for what it's supposed to represent and doesn't looks that bad at all. I quite like that fish-tail.

Textures – 9/10

I adore the scales on her tail, and the coloration is very cool. No complaints here.

Animations – 9/10

The animations are my favorite part of the model. I adore them, especially the idle one. They are very smooth and look good in-game.

Creativity – 3.5/5

Again, I wouldn't think of a mermaid as the most ideal critter, thus I think it is quite creative.

Total – 27.5/35

It's a great model, and if only you've made your own head instead of using the sorceress\Villager Woman one, it could have been much better.
Also, boobs.

tee.dubs:

Mesh – 5/10

Although quite simple, it works good and doesn't looks bad. Fine work on it.

Textures – 8/10

The textures used are quite creative, even though the Crypt Lord is quite an overused texture and it might looks strange near a crypt lord or models using the crypt lord texture in-game. However, I really love how you used the textures, especially the Black Dragon one.

Animations – 8/10

Some of the animations looked a little stiff or too fast, but overall, the animations are good and fit very well. I love the decay bone animation and I am, in fact, still trying to find out how you did it - because I honestly never saw something like that, and I must say, it looks cool.

Creativity – 5/5

Well, it's nothing I ever saw before. It's a cave-bug which lives in water and has a seemingly thick carapace. I'd say it's quite original, mostly because I can't really connect it to any creature - in real life or otherwise - I can think of.

Total – 26/35

Very fine work. The tail looks awesome and the animations fits. The model itself is very original. Overall, I like it.
