Contestants must create a Neutral Hero or upgrade a Neutral creep into a Hero. Possible examples might include Murlocs, Gnolls, or Nerubians. HD submissions only.

other_rules_and_conditions-png.311513

  • No submission may violate any of the site rules.
  • All submissions must follow the current theme. If any model does not fit, a moderator will tell you as soon as possible as to avoid confusion.
  • You must show at least one unfinished preview of your submission, before the deadline, as proof that it's yours.
  • Your submission may not be started/made before the official launch of the contest.
  • Judges may not participate.
  • Your final submission must work in-game and be bug-free.
  • Teamwork is not allowed.
  • Entries do not necessarily have to be created from scratch. Edits from existing model are allowed as long as there is a certain amount of effort put into them, and must include a Dissipate animation and Hero Glow.
  • In order to enter the contest and be eligible to win a prize, contestants must submit their final entry to the HD Model Resource section. Remember to write in the description: "Entry for the 1st HD Modeling Contest".

Breaking any of these rules may lead to punishment in the judgement score, up to disqualification from the contest, depending on the weight of the issue. In case of doubts towards a certain rule you are very encouraged to discuss it in the contest thread so others and judges may help with sorting it out.

Alright! Let's hope I lobbied enough people to participate
:ogre_hurrhurr:

So the theme is neutrals turning heroes. Now the follow-up question would be, what would you count as such?
  • Is it specifically WC3 creeps excusive?
  • Do WoW neutral faction count? (Goblins were Horde, then neutral, then Horde again)
  • What about those that were hostile or neutral for long time and eventually joined a faction like Worgen, Dark Irons, Mechagnomes (closest to goblins? they even had a hostile faction)?

Any unit that isn’t found under the four playable Races in Warcraft 3 i.e. Night Elf, Undead, Orc and Human.

So, Gnomes, Goblins, Worgens etc. are acceptable :)

Wonderful, then hereby I join with the yet still very much WIP "Mechagon Explorer" hero.

The idea is a Mechagnome tinker on a mecha-strider mount (going to overuse the word "mecha" so much here).
Haven't thought about the mount looks, or weapons yet, probably an electro-lance that can transform into a pistol?
Most elements for the hero will hopefully be non-retextured mechanical parts from all over Reforged. How the hell I will be able to rig and animate that.. no idea, probably based on NE huntress rider, we'll see.

Here's concept I did today (drawing with mouse sux btw):

Concept - V 0.1.png

Best of luck everyone!

EDIT: Ohh yeah, I'm back in the race, here's another concept with the ride and weapon (it's going to be a nightmare do actually make those):

Not just aesthetic modifications or to add some props ...
I will make a Reforged unit with countless combinations of animations from different models and even other games, trying to synchronize them perfectly, making it different and even more unique. Having variety of animations, this is what creates more realism and versatility in an HD model.

EDIT: Forgive, I just noticed now. If the competition is aimed even more at Creeps and these are types Murlocs, Gnolls or Nerubians ... My proposals will be for the next tournament, I like to work only for Orcs or Humans, eventually Elves and some types more humanoids of UD.

Good luck to all the participants!

Are we allowed to use parts from ported models?
We will discuss it.

EDIT:
Sorry, that will not be allowed.

The contest is aimed at Neutral heroes, so basically a Human Bandit can fit the theme well.

Excellent concept. It is wonderful that you are so quick with just a mouse. While I am not convinced if gnomes are allowed here, since there are no gnome creeps in Warcraft 3, I think this kind of hero could really fit thematically as a neutral hero. Moreover, a gnome hero, especially female, would be a great gift to the modding community.

I might try to enter with a model designed to break technology barriers, for example its own model specific pkb files and model specific facefx just to prove I can.

If I can, that is. I don't actually know how to do that, I just think it would be entertaining to try.

Well, I'll be sitting on that concept until a few other's join. I want competition!

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to enter with a Mechagnome, who would be neutral in lore up until very recently (duh, they were created last expansion by Blizz...).
I could have gone with literally the same concept but a goblin, however I wanted a more pristine aesthetic, not rough mechs.

Excellent concept. It is wonderful that you are so quick with just a mouse...
Let's say I was inspired by your concepts and felt I don't need any excuses that my pad is in another country now.

...
PKB is free, but I was too lazy to do anything with it (so far).
FaceFX is like 1-2k bucks, not sure if there is a student version though.

I do some models and skins, and dissipate animations for neutral hostile and race units.
Well, then go ahead and join in! Think of a cool concept for a hero that's really missing from neutral roster and then make the best model you ever did, there's nothing to loose really. We got a lot of time for it as well.

(Back in the day managed to snatch 3rd place for my very first contest on Hive, so there's no time too soon to try)

So, I'm going to start this weekend. I will create a "male" Farmer/Villager containing Full anims Peasant and also a bandit archer and, if possible, on horseback. I don't know if I'll find the time for that. But let's go up !!!

Wonder if someone would make an anime model :>
I haven't see anyone make models from scratch here. And it's not allowed to use parts from ported models, which kinda also mean not using models from other game, I don't think we will see any anime model. But we can secretly using them since anime models are all the same
Also it will have really low Integration point o.o I would love to see some anime girl monsters. Wish i ihave free time to make it

Are people expected to make things from scratch or can they edit an existing standard model (not ported) or use parts from it? The rules of the contest don't seem to specify this in full. Using existing parts could go both ways on creativity so the judging would just account for this. I just want a clear answer out there to prevent any post-deadline problems from occurring :).

As previously discussed, edits are allowed as long as at least some effort is put into the entries. However, it should be better specified in the rules, so I'll edit it right now to clarify this better.

so... since this is about creep to hero, here's my suggestions to those who will try:

Bandit Lord hero as a unique model for Lord Blackthorn
Centaur Mage hero as a unique model for Centaur Conqueror
Centaur Khan hero as a unique model for Khan Gragtor
Stonemaul Lord with Serathil and then that Steam Tank hull as helmet as a unique model for Kor'gall
Kobold Geomancer hero as a unique model for Nogrin Onetooth
Deeplord Revenant with Old God/C'thulhu vibes and themes as a unique model for the Eldritch Deathlord

edit:more

Nerubian Queen with Crypt Lord themes for Nezar'azret

Here's a leg...

Edit 1: And here's the seat. Now I need the "head" of the Mechanostrider with all sorts of joysticks and buttons inside.

For my model I wanted to edit PKB for the sake of memes so in order to do that I have to build a pkb editor program. I was thinking I might call it PKBlaster or "Horrible Trashy PKB Editor" or something.

It seems the format so far has at least 3 parts that I have been able to interpret just by guessing with some files.
  1. Junk that is always the same
  2. Many typed messages with types ranging from 0-245
  3. A list of strings
From some sample data we can see the possible message lengths used per message type, so I think later on a weekend or something if I have some fun figuring out a rough sketch of what some of the most common types are then hopefully I can set up a PKBlaster to change the colors of spell particles. I don't really have any idea what I'm doing with this, and I don't really suggest doing it, but it seemed comedic enough for a few minutes' entertainment.
