The Furbolg's Escape

Hey Guys,

This is a map I've been working on on-and-off for a few years. It is a Player vs Creeps game where you control three level 1 Furbolg Heroes and fight your way through difficult creeps/creep camps/bosses to the end. If you beat this map without cheats (it is not easy), then mad props are in order!!!!!!!!!!!! I look super forward to hearing from everyone's critiques and how they like it; I'm planning on doing another sequel map which will be better with all of your guys' input!

P.S: There is ONE (minor) bug in this map that I couldn't get around to fixing. I made a forum thread about it, but to no avail. Here is the bug: If you Save, and then load that saved game, every creep seems to 1) lose their camp grouping, 2) have their acquisition range reduced to melee range, and 3) since I've set a lot of the camps to sleep, if you're fighting a camp with multiple creeps and you CC one creep then move slightly further away from the CC'd creep, it will sleep even though you're still fighting it's camp-grouped creeps just feet away.

This unfortunately makes it very very very easy to defeat many camps. HOWEVER, the further along you go in this map, there are less and less camps, and more single very hard creeps/bosses, where this bug does not affect their gameplay, which means you can save before them, load if you die, and fight again having no difference. This bug ONLY AFFECTS GROUPED, SLEEPING CREEP CAMPS.

A way to avoid this bug is to not-so-simply not save at all and beat the map without having to load a save at all! Easier said than done!!! I've play tested this map thousands of times, and I've made it to the end cleanly without having one of my furbolgs die through the entire map only a couple times (disclaimer: just because one furbolg dies, that doesn't mean you have to load a save). To be able to do that (run the entire map without having a furbolg die) will take hours of practice though, learning the creep camp's abilities, etc.

When I play this map, I only ever Save and Load when I pass (spoiler alert) the triple furbolg camp in the frozen zone; If I screw up before that, I 'restart mission' which is a lot of time gone. But it makes you play a lot more consciously, and it makes you with an awareness that a champion can die at any moment if you're careless. To me, that signifies a good map; having to be attentive and play your best, instead of absent-mindedly spamming abilities because the game is easy.

I made this map very difficult for a reason: I don't want it to be beat easily.

If you're having trouble with a camp/boss, and can't seem to get by it/him/her, discuss here! Or ask me directly how to beat them :). Although I'm sure you guys are a lot more technically skilled and smarter than I when it comes to game mechanics and APM and all that jazz...

So please, have fun, enjoy this map, and please let me know whether you like it or not, what you would change, etc.

The map has not tag. I assume you should use the Escape/Maze one. You should add difficulty options. You should fix the save-load issue. Forcing players to do it without it is ludicrous. You can do it because you made the map. Others will not be so...

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.
