sorry guys, my modelling laptop is fucked, i have to withdraw from the contest, sorry if i disappointed anyone (probably not...) maybe I can continue if it's fixed on time (hopefully within 3 weeks...).

oh but don't worry about the model, i'll finish it (her?) and upload when laptop is fixed

It's possible to tint it darker via Geoset Animations.

The trouble with that is, as seen in the last model I made for this contest, it doesn't just change gamma. It actually removes detail. The reason is because it is transforming from one texture to another. It isn't just darkening one.


And, HT, we should have a UVWrapping challenge some time. Where we each get one model and a texture. Then we have to UVW it. Nothing else, just UVW it. :D Just for the heck of it.

Because I love to UVW. Almost as much as I love to model.

This is my entry, I call it the Megapod. It's a huge crab-like tripod, inspired by the Half-Life Gonarch and turtles.

Damn you! That thing is so nasty that I lost my appetite :ask:, well made it is indeed... When that thingy comes out you will fear it! Mainly due to how nasty it is.. Damn so nasty. :nemad:

I would really fear a colossus like that.. just imagine that thingy chrasing down in ones house or units - ARGH! Too nasty :eek:

Uglug the ugly

The tired Giant Uglug. He is mostly asleep and sleeps for years that's why humans ,elf's, undead, and the orcs alike often mix him up with a big mountain,with willowtrees growing everywhere. When he is awake he walks around the earth tired and angry. looking for anything that he can eat. He cant stand people cutting down trees on his back trying too build homes on his body, but even worse he dislikes the undead making his sleepingrounds hard and cold. As Uglug is very old the earth has started taking over his body. Dirt and stones, as well as trees and veins covers and have started too take over his body. You can mostly find Uglug near a wells were the ground is moist and soft and where he can drink water from the soil.

My drawing table stoped working soo i hade too use ppen and papper but i think i have the rought concept down atm. Modelling is about too begin!


Your character is looking great Dan Van! i somehow dislike his weapons though.

What kind of mental disorder do you have? This is just some concept art, it isn't offensive at all.

@jojomondag: looks creative and cool. I hope your model turns out as good as your concept for it.

Haha yeah i can see how you might think im crazy but i have a plan :p I dont have any illusions of making this to a extreme highpoly model. Im planing on making this 3000 tris a max polycont of 5000 tris. I think i might do a bit unecessary work in my workflow but not that much.

Yeah i will use what i can but that will only be bump for the diffuse map, maybe some lightning info too for the diffuse map, if i can get that out into the texture. But im testing alot of stuff with this one, so dont really know yet what i can do texture wise. As my model is going too go between som major transformation so the uws wont match that good i presume. Anyhow im estemating i have about 2 hours left in zbrush, then its time for the next major step.:razz:

I know people usually use zbrush for normal/bump maps but since wc3 doesn't have either of those, all you have to work with are diffuse maps. :/

Yeah that what I said. I never said anything else. But im going too create a bumpmap maybe even a normalmap. Too use too make my diffusemap more realistic.

assymetry on the face. More detail on nails and fingers aswell as nails on his toes. Some more deffenition. And modelling of the teeth then done.
 
jojomondag, I can't lie that this model is pretty good and very promising. But that's not the way to go to make your wc3 model. You should really get rid of that polies.
"Modelling teeth" as you said, usually is like creating a pair of planes with alpha'ed textures.
The thing is that details don't rely on the mesh, but on the texture.

I don't even know how would wc3 engine react to such a detailed model.

Thank you for your concern appyCockroach im going too start reducing the polys soon, you know about the program topogun? it can work wonders on a high deatiled mesh and reduce it too nuthin. And im planing on doing the trees on his back with alpha mapped planes. Ive used Wc3 viewer and stdied the models made from blizzard and they are indeed very low poly about 400 polys at max. My goal for this creature as i said before is too have something like 1500 polys for the whole thing.

controversy is a powerful tool. but the model is still great, looking forward for next update

Challeging!

This was way harder then i anticipated! im already at 1000 triangles im gonna have too rethink alot of stuff now. I still think it wasent a waste doing the model in zbrush though as im going too use some maps when i paint my diffuse texture. Put im going too go Plane ballistic now :p

There's a bunch of great stuff in here ! :D

Anyway, here's another WIP.



I'm currently unfortunately overbooked, and I wonder if I'll be able to finish the model before the deadline.

For now, I just have to add some planar polys for the branches and the leaves.
Then, the UVWrap, the texture and eventually the animations.

Time for explanations: This is a corrupted form of a nature element, Ivy one probably.
It is using all nearby nature things (trees, woods, roots, rocks, ivy) to "transform" into a huge and impressive Nature elemental. As it is magical and natural, it's using both magic and ramification to get a coherency appearrance. Fortunately, its "heart" (we should say the Ivy elemental itself) is defenseless, but its size and its abilities are enough to get rid of weaklings.
