Hey RPG let me know when you have started closed alpha so you can send me a copy of the map.

Alright people, i have a question for you. Should players share the same quest progress or should players have their own invidual progress? Or should i make 2 kinds of quests, one where you share progress and one with invidual progress?

2 kinds of quests.

2 reasons why.

1. Party quests (if you are gonna have a party system)

2. Individual progress so, that when a quest requires someone to kill or obtain a certain amount of anything, one person doesn't do all the work and the others don't get credit, too.

In reply to what onisaiyan808 said this is what i think:

1 kind of quest with the option to share it.
If you and another player have the same quest there should be an option to partner with the player for that quest, it then shares your quest progress.
This would work better because you could work solo if you want or if theres 12 people and you only wanna quest with your friend, it all works out perfectly.

One more thing.
ex: Theres 3 people:
Bob, Fred, Joe.

If Bob shares with Fred and Fred shares with Joe it links all 3 players together.
If Bob shares with both of them it links Fred and Joe together.
Explanation: If one player shares the quest with 2 different people it will link the other two people together creating a small party for a quest.

If Bob shares with Fred and Fred shares with Joe, I dont believe it would link all three together because wouldn't you also have to have fred share to bob, and joe share to fred and bob?

If you did the linking wouldn't it be easier to have "party" groups where whatever you kill counts towards your other group members quest counts?

I still like your idea Bane, but it would have to work both ways in order to work.

Okay, this is how the quest system will work.
There's 2 kinds of quest, main quests, which follows the storyline and such, and optional quests.
Main Quests are shared among all players, and they share the same progress etc.
Optional Quests isn't shared among the players. If one player takes an optional quest, it isn't added to the other players quest log. Of course you can stil team up and do the quests together.

I'm also doing some weird stuff, so both of you can't just take the quest and then one of the players can rush and do the quest, and then both of you have finished the quest. You need to help winning the quest!
I quickly made a quest yesterday, to help myself know how the quest system will work. It's just a simple, boring "kill 20 trolls" quest.
So if the killed troll is supposed to add to your troll counter, you need to participate in the battle which kills the troll.

QuestSystem1.jpg

About the party system, i think i'll just add the heroes icon to your left side of the screen and maybe a little marker on the multiboard and maybe even on the hero, so you can make your own personal 'team list'.

Okay, great news guys. Everwood is now playable, and i only need to add more quests and stuff before we move to the closed alpha version!

Everwood: Design your own quest!

I'm making a quest contest, where you can post ideas for quests. Your reward for posting an idea is your name in the quest description and a spot on the closed beta team, and, of course .. A cookie. xD

What i'm looking for is not classical "kill 20 rats" quests, but unique questlines, with multiple requirements, maybe even a story stretching over more than 1 quest.

Please note, that your idea might not be accepted. If that happens, i'll tell you what is wrong with the quest, and you have a chance to improve it.
You are ofcourse allowed to post more than 1 idea =)

Please post your ideas in this thread.. =)

Look forward to see your brilliant ideas =D

I'm new to this thread and I saw this contest. I got one question, I don't even know what monster/boss or NPC or place in your map so how am I going to design a quest? o_O

Well, just write things down you want to have in the quest like, "The heroes should chase a black hellhound which only appears during night", and i'll pretty much add in the rest. I haven't made a lot of NPC's yet, so you could just make up your own. The same for bosses.

FreakyShirley said:
I don't really like the hero model there. The terrain could use more enviroment.

Meh, Calvin is currently making a new skin for the hero model, and trust me, it's not allowed for kids under 12 xD

The terrain isn't my job, but i can promise you one thing. Ingame the terrain will stun you. 3 of the testers i've shown the map to has said this, and they are the only one i showed the map too. :b
The roads and stuff are the "worst" thing which has been terrained yet, the ingame envoirement is ... well, stunning. =)

for some quest you could have something like this

=an wierd old hermit gives you a quest --> Find the piece of the scroll of Mithy Orb (or what ever you want to call it)..

to find those piece you must kill some champion units.. and boss.. to reconstituate the scroll...

when you have reconstituate the scroll.. bring it back to the Hermit.. and the hermit will reveal you his true identitie... The legendary Alchemist ''the name you want'' and by doing this quest for him he will reward you of his new creation ''you decide witch weapond or orb or potion he will give you''.

here's my idea..

Quest!

:fp: Here a ten minutes quest, it's English is very bad but i think it is readable:

A Mage's tale

You have to talk with a mage at a random town which will give a quest with some items for it, you have to resurrect a dead mage for him, the mage will give you some items like a potion of blood from him, and a magic scroll, when you finish the search you have to come back with him with an item that he is needing from that mage.

You have to find his grave in the world and follow the steps that the mage gave to you to resurrect him.

Once the mage is resurrected he will give you another quest in wich he ask you to find a rare item for him, in exchange he will give you his magic item wich is wanted by the mage who gave you the initial quest. When you find the rare item ((that is hidden in a rare place like in a library, or at one water hole at the graveyard or something)), give it to the resurrected mage, he will give you the item and that quest will finish, then you have to report to the initial mage that will give you an item reward Gamat's Ring of Power or something cool :p

Ah,
Makes sense thank you,
And Incase any of you are wondering who I am, I'm Calvin, that Skinner person, Yea,
That Guy!--->

Gamat,
Your quest its more... Eh, Storyish, When the Objective of quests was put,
nothing too big, nothing too small, and nothing should interfere with the story, yours is,
Well, conflicting, its very defined, theres no room for changes, or very little, a little...
Well, Flexibility would be rather helpful.

better be careful with the size, I guess it would be at least 4mb

Ive been working with some map, and i was stating thinking of it, what is the maximum map size before it become unplayeble?
0=======And now back to the map!=============0
This seems awsome! You must been working with this for some time.
Hope it become even greater!

Time for some replies.. =)

Mr. Goblin:

Your quest idea is not really unique, but it somehow fits perfectly into the Worldmap system (which i just finished btw).
Let's say that if the heroes collected 4 pieces of a map or something, the wizard could throw them together into the world map, and from that point of, the players will be able to view the map.
I think you should build a little more on your quest, like maybe a storyline. "The Wizard of the Golden Cauldron once had a map, the only map of Everwood. But one day, the map got stealed by goblins (No offence =) ), sent by the evil Wizard of the Black Cauldron..."

Gamat:
I really liked one part of your idea, the part where they had to follow the trail of the mage. This could be very fun if you had to follow a lot of riddles, and it would also be kinda unique.. =)

woxx:
We've been working on this since start of Marts, but most of the time has been times where we were really lazy tbh. But now we're working hard to finally release this map to the puplic! xD
Also, after Ragingspeedhorn and Calvin joined us, the map has been progressing VERY fast!
The problem with this map (and other maps of this kind), is that we keep thinking of new features we want to add, and therefor, slowing the process but making the map better and better...
Hell, i miss the time where the most advanced thing we had was a shitty camera system. =P
But i can't say i don't like the direction this is going. xD

And if you want a special item reward for the quest, fell free to tell me, i might add your item as an attachment.. =)

Oh, and here's a screenshot of the worldmap. It's still in the early stages, and the worldmap will be modified later. (Like "Everwood" is hiding behind the walls etc.)

Worldmap.jpg

And a preview screenshot of the new skin.
(There's an area around the neck we still need to finish of the 2. preview.)

The Dagger of Corruption - Quest Chain

Quest 1: The Sliver
Accept-
While traveling through the marshes your discover a quaint little shack with a slightly odd looking Hermit by the name of Hoarith Ruthvengen (Hor-ith Rooth-ven-gin) who tells you the story of a treasure gaurded by a spirit/ghost/shade that is located inside catacombs of a forgotten hero. He asks you to find this so called treasure and too retrieve it from the hero's statue from inside the catacombs, and then return back too him.

Return-
He tells you what you have just retrieved from the catacombs as being The Sliver a device, that if in the wrong hands, could cause unspeakable damage. But luckily you have brought it too the right hands.

________________________________________________
Quest 2: A Pierced Heart
Accept-
He now tells you that you must use this Sliver to destroy a foul creature that walks in a forgotten forest that never a soul returns from. Try to find this forest and lure the beast out by laying the bait Hoarith had given you. Wait for the beast to show up, and when he does, show him no mercy for you shant be recieving any in turn. Before returning use the sliver on the slain creatures heart to kill him forever, then return too the hermit.

Return-
When you return the hermit seems to look more menacing than you had first noticed, but people change. So the hermit tells you that you did a wonderful job slaying the foul beast that lured those forests and saved countless lives in the future, or have you? The hermit goes on too tell you that he had you use the sliver on the creatures heart not to kill him forever, but still do in the process of gaining the creatures foul corruption to change the Sliver into a mighty weapon called The Dagger of Corruption which he can use to rule Everwood, and then the world of (BLANK).

First, the Hermit, needs to kill any suspects that know where his power comes from, which happens to be none other than you! Quickly make a move to kill the hermit before he uses the Dagger of Corruption on your soul and curses you!

(Accept the next quest to unlock the fight between the characters and Hoarith Ruthvengen.)

________________________________________________________
Quest 3: A Partnership Broken
Accept-
Activate the battle to slay the Hermit before he uses the dagger on yourself.

(This quest is finished on the death of Hoarith Ruthvengen. If the Characters fail too kill him after a certain amount of time this quest resets too before accepting A Partnership Broken.)

______________________________________________
Quest 4: Saving Your Soul
Accept-
(This quest is Accepted automatically after killing Hoarith.) You have slain the foul Hoarith Ruthvengen, but have failed to stop him from using the dagger upon your soul. You may know of someone who can remove this curse before you soul is cursed forever. His name is Sevedris Ruthvengen (Suh-veh-dris), the very cousin of Hoarith, and can be found in (Large city)! Can he be trusted? No time too find out!!

Return-
Sevedris tells you that he is truly sorry for what his vile cousin did too you but it wasn't entirely his fault. Foul spirits had corrupted his once peaceful soul, after his wife and family died. Sevedris thanks you for taking him to peace, cause he could not wield the sword too his own cousin. Sevedris removes the curse on your soul for free accepting the freedom of his cousin as payment enough.

_____________________________________________
Quest 5: Cleansing Corruption
Accept-
Sevedris tells you of only one way to cleanse the Dagger of Corruption. A fountain inside a long forgotten monastery still radiants life and power over evil. You must find that monastery and hold the dagger underwater too "drown" the corruption instilled withing the blade.

Once drowning the blade, the corruption will leave the dagger and manifest itself to destroy those who had binded it too the cursed weapon, which happens to be none other than you! Battle the Corruption and leave the monastery too return too Sevedris.

Return-
Sevedris is delighted too see you return fairly unharmed and exstacic about what you did too the dagger. It turns out that you held the dagger for longer than intended and not only released the corruption but instilled the dagger with the force of light and its powerful malevolence. He makes a slightly irritating remark about the new name of the dagger.

Acquire the Dagger of Malevolence.

(This newly acquired dagger can either be used as a portkey to unlock a dungeon, or just wielded as an above average dagger for certain classes, or sold by those that cant. Would be a cool starting quest for personal quest chains to possibly acquiring a class weapon.)

_________________________________________________

I never added rewards so that you can tailor it to the actual character progression throughout the story. I dont want these too be one after the other but spread throughout the game which can be completed around 20-45 minutes, whichever you see fit. I hope this works for you, cause I had alot of fun writing it a second time, cause the first time it auto-logged me out when I submitted. I am actually thinking of another quest/quest-chain that would be fairly interesting and humouris(SP?).

Well, heres another. Hope you like it.

Its a Theme Park!
Accept-
A quirky young business man pulls you aside and asks for a few minutes of your time. He intruduces himself as Samuel Slurms, he trails off about how he came about receiving the last name Slurms. He abrubtly comes back to reality in a excited leaping jump. He frantically explains his idea to open up a "theme park" as he calls it, here in (Largest city). He requires your help to travel to different cities within Everwood and try to relocatify the games played specificallious at each city. He states that if you help him he will let you into the theme park for free and play the games at a "slight" discountufication, not describing the exact amount because of inflationizms and expendaturios.

Return-
(You can return the games (items) in any order you want, and when Samuel Slurms receives the amount needed, the theme park is now opened for all the characters.)

Samuel Slurms does a lopsided jig as you bring him the last game played by any town. He states that he now has enough attractiomisms to openify his wonderful new theme park! He reveals the name of the theme park, and as usual it contains very odd words and misspelled beyond belief. The name of the theme park, which you read is Slurm'z Fantabewlis Theem Parc!

(This can be for future additions which can add in little mini-games that the players can play for a certain amount of coin and recieve random items, some fairly good too some just plain wierd.)
(If you want an exact pronounciation of the words I made up, ill be happly to list them here for you.)

Re-low-kay-tify
Spuh-ci-fi-cal-e-iss
Dis-count-uh-fi-kay-shun
In-flay-shuh-ni-zums
Ex-pend-uh-chur-e-oh's (The ending kind of reminds me of Cherrios.)
Uh-track-shim-mi-zum (silent m, go figure)
Oh-pen-ify (What!?)
Fan-tab-bew-lis (Something between Fantastic and Fabulious)
Theme (Who knew I would actually have to put the word Theme, for pronunciation help)
Park (This one is obvious)

There isn't really anything i think you should change, everything looks fine to me. =P

From now on i'm focusing on finishing the spells for the closed alpha, that's pretty much everything i need, except a few touchups like items. In the alpha, every hero will have 3 abilities. One which is learned from one of the quests, one which you learn at level 5 and one you start with.

Here's the current skillsets. If you have any ideas fell free to share them.. =)

Warrior:
Leap Attack: Jump to target point, dealing damage.
Power Blow: Strike an enemy, knocking back and dealing damage.
Stomp: Damage to nearby enemies with a minor knockback

Berserker:
Earthquake: Series of earthquakes in target direction.
Truss of Might: Throw target enemy unit behind you.
EMPTY:

Rogue:
Backstab: You know what this does.. =P
Sneak: This one too.. =)
EMPTY

Hydromancer:
Water Blast: Damage to nearby enemes one target point + minor knockback.
Summon Water Element: Summon a water elemental to aid you.
Tsunami: Waves of water, like some kind of Flamethrower ability

Pyromancer:
Flamethrower: Series of fire in target direction
Fire Wall: A wall which deals Damage over Time to nearby enemies.
Fire Ball: AoE firebal, explodes if it hits a target on its way.

Necromancer:
Poison balls: 3 balls poisoning enemies it hits, they fly around you (shitty name, needs a new one..).
Curse of the Wicked: Banshees flying in every direction, cursing enemies.
EMPTY:

Druid:
Nature Spirits: Rockets just nature themed.
EMPTY:
EMPTY:

Priest:
Tears of Heaven: Lights all over, healing allies, damaging enemies.
Divine Hammer: A massive hamemr smashing target area
Restore Conditions: Remove all conditions from allies.

Ranger:
Triple Shot: 3 arrows moving in target direction.
Power Shot: Arrow which damages + knocks back
Animal Companion: You can guess this one =P

The spell ideas looks nice, i might use some of them..
Thanks! =D

I forgot to add Shaman to the post before, it's fixed now.
In a moment i'll begin posting some screenshots of the spells i've made so far.

And i have another question!
Ofcourse Everwood will feature a bag system, but we kind of don't have any ideas of how the bag system should be =S
So now i'm asking you, what kind of bag system do you want?

No problem :p

The bag system could be like an item, when you drop items inside it, they are stored, 6/5 is enought i think, because the equipment will take away 11 :p

I like that type of bags, but i dont have problem with boxes XD

Shaman:

Elements Fury: Forges a ball of multiple elements, wich needs to be channeled at a point, after X seconds, the ball will crash with the ground, trapping, slowing, damaging, and putting in flames all the enemies in the zone.

A quest that I thought about:

After you do some quests in a town concerning a certain race of evil creatures, such as trolls (if they are evil in game), you could make it so that there is a troll invasion, but not just a small raiding party, a large force that isnt easy to defeat, and to defeat it you must travel to another close-by town during or before the siege/attack to bring reinforcements. Even with these reinforcements the army isn't easy to defeat, and could possibly even overun the town. (Triggered automatically after doing a few quests concerning attack race).

The reward could be allowance to use something, enter some part of the town, or access to a shop, or just some Items

If you'll consider it, I could expand on it for you.

I don't like that quest alot because of the masses of creeps, it will get very hard to control. BUT, in Everwood there's a Battlefield in the right side of the map, where there will be battles just like an AoS. Here you can join a side and fight it off against other heroes.. =D

Its very nice. You'll make our upcoming RPG look like a dog's breakfast.

The mount system looks fool-proof and the classes, terrain and attachment system are very tidy as well.

I'd just like to point out that your "Tears of Heavens" or whatever, was exactly what I had in-mind for a spell, guess that would be stealing if I used to now huh?

Very good job.

Well, I, good sir, am impressed entirely. Thus far your terrain looks magnificent and realistic, your systems are quite kempt, and you seem to know how to define "epic". Heh, I am even more anticipating this RPG than The Black Road 2.0 (no offense to The Black Road of course, I still look forward to 2.0). And I hope to God it isn't too big. By what I've heard, such systems can be very large to tame. But, aside from that, I wish you luck on your ORPG ventures.

If you need any aid at all (In such departments as quests, creativity, descriptions, ideas, whatever) just PM me any time.

Alright, but it still looks excellent. And your systems are well thought as well, but enough babbling! I will now share my quest idea... Beware, it is a chain quest, somewhat. Also, warning, it features a lich. >.>

Quest One
Title: An Unspeakable Horror
Description: As you travel through dense forests, you hear a scream, more a shriek of pain. From the shadows comes a wounded villager/guard/archer (or which ever you seem fit) who seems extremely pale. As you are confronted by the severely wounded villager/guard/archer, he speaks of a horror that has taken over his beloved village and to report to General Elsworn (or whichever name you may choose) about what has happened. And then slowly, the villager/guard/archer dies.
Aim:
- To report to General Elsworn in ________.

Quest Two
Title: A Lich In Our Midst
Description: You finally find General Elsworn, he seems very tense and concerned with the current matter at hand. He tells you of a myth that now he believes is true. A myth of a lich, a deathly creature that cannot be killed naturally. Elsworn continues to tell you of the frozen might and power a lich has, and then has a definate solution to the problem. Elsworn, with his genius, tells you to find an entity only known as the "Lorekeeper".
Aim:
- To find the Lorekeeper.

Quest Three
Title: The Magi Records
Description: The Lorekeeper lives underground, in a small hovel that emits a magic that works your mind. In this hovel, you see books, many, many books. And immediately you figure this is where the Lorekeeper is. The Lorekeeper reveals herself, and then questions you of your business in her "home". After disturbance is settled, you get straight to the point about slaying a lich. The Lorekeeper then tells you of a lost tome filled with the "Magi Records" which may have the answer of whom the lich may be.
Aim:
- To travel to _______ and find the Magi Records dug into the earth.
- Return to the Lorekeeper.

Quest Four
Title: Dalron of the South
Description: After searching through the records, the Lorekeeper is sure that the lich of whom you are dealing with is a reanimated spawn of a greater power and continues to explain. She explains that the only way to kill a lich is to burn its grave and make sure no ash of his corpse is left. And then she dismisses you, to kill Dalron and take his frozen heart and then run before he resurrects.
Aim:
- To slay the lich Dalron and take his frozen heart.
- Take it to the Lorekeeper for further instructions.

Quest Five
Title: A Fiery Slaughter
Description: The Lorekeeper is pleased with your progress and tells you that you must not come back after slaughtering the lich. She then gives you a small pouch of crystals that is said to "banish the living or the dead". She then sends you on your way...
Aim:
- To banish Dalron with the pouch of crystals.
- Burn his grave and his frozen heart.
- Return to General Elsworn.

And well, yeah. There you have it. Hope it is well fitting for your RPG? Heh.

Ah okay, if you want to can forget about the idea =P
I don't want anyone to get into any kind of trouble..

Back to Everwood, i finished most of the skills yesterday. Now all classes has 2 skills, some of them even has 3.
There was a problem with the quest system (server splitting), so in the early alpha versions, quests will be shared. Later, when i fix this, i'll make quests which aren't shared.

No, it is okay. Our idea of the quest will be a little different, I am still tinkering around with quests. But at this point we're not sure. Our terrainer bailed, and we need a triggerer... So yes, just take it, we're fine.

And good job on the progress, cannot wait until it is released.

Your RPG looks promosing. Im a big fan of RPGS, and I always wished to create on. But its require alot of work for one person,
and I wont get a team since my english isnt the best. So its easyer for me to join.

Im glad to see how far you have come with you rpg, and if you need my help let me now. I have worked in World Editor since
warcraft came out, and I know nearly everything in World Editor.

Im using jass, and I love to make system. My lastest system was a Fullscreen System, but I never finished it.

I can also make/edit models, which I do in 3dsmax, so I got the Arttools, and prophets importer script.
I can't create units and such, but can do items, houses and such. I can do simple animations.

I am also pretty good at terraining(I think myself). If you want my help and want me to show something, the give me a day or two and i
will do it(depends on the task).

Im looking forrward to hear from you:D

Well, i'm not sure when Yohobofire started working on this, but i joined him at the start of marts 08 (this year), but half of the time we've been working on this, we've been kind lazy. =P
But we are progressing very fast these days, and when i'm infront of my computer i use most of my time working on this map.

About heroes, when we have already released a few versions of the map, we will add new classes. So far we only have monk and mesmer in mind, but will probably add more =P
