A decent 'plunge into darkness with the units you find' style map. I think as far as execution goes, your understanding of Warcraft 3's quest log and quest message systems really assists with making this first mission really feel like a part of a broader campaign.
I really enjoy the concept of rallying elven survivors and using them to fight demons in this corrupted woodland scenario, I also really like the idea of certain key 'demi-heroish' units that have names and seemingly a tid bit of personality.
This is a first mission for sure and it looks like a good honest shot from a beginner in trying to cut out a manageable piece of map editing in which to cultivate their skills and tell an awesome story. For that I think this is rad. As was said earlier in the comments I think that posting this map over in
Map Development would be an awesome place to start the cultivation of some critical feedback.
If you want my advice definitely look into the Campaign Editor (F7) as it would be better practice to define the more complicated object editor data there so that you don't have to duplicate it between maps (if you intend for this to be a multi-level campaign). I would also recommend making some good use of cliffs to some capacity, this map has some basic terrain and is mostly flat woodland which is
okay but a little bit more terrain differentiation could go a very long way in giving it definition. Finally I would suggest thinking about varying the '
rescue' of these units throughout the map. Perhaps you could place several night elf/demon units and pause them on initialization within fighting distance and then unpause them once Adora comes within range of them or enters a region?
There is plenty more feedback or suggestions that I'm sure others would love to give, but I imagine it will have to wait until that post in
Map Development. I'll be looking forward to it!
