How about make it so that units don't automatically attack enemies, like have a toggle safety button on/off option in some menu for all units.

You mean like.. hold position?

We've discussed all this, and it would harm more than it helped - what if you turn on this "safety mode", and enemies would start firing at your units, while yours were unable to fire back? Because i promise you, you'll be completely unable to keep a constant check of all units.
Then again, if they'd be able to fire, just not move, then it would be the same as hold position, which is something not everyone would (or should have to) bother to do with all their units. I personally don't think it is important for infantry to be able to fire at airplanes, simply because it would make the role of the mobile flak batteries obsolete, and since it wasn't actually effective anyways. I want players to have to think about how they compose their armies, rather than just spam a single unit.

Wait, didn't Fingolfin posted something before Riotz? He said something about Vuorma not telling him about the beta test or something lol.

He did mention the closed beta, we hadnt fully discussed it and I wasn't sure about Fingolfin, but we agreed so it's solved and things are going in the way I said, sign up will come up within a week.

I would like to add though that this is beta signup we're talking about, just so that we know how many we could scramble, and not actual beta testing. At the moment i can't tell when the actual tests will occur, me and vuorma will first have to test play as the other european nations that will be used aswell as finish the last allied models (basically just the soldier and the artillery), but we're certainly getting there.

EDIT: Secondly, don't worry about not getting into the beta team - we will have several sessions to make sure the game is polished in every possible way before the official launch.

How about adding some way to trade with players, like not through the menu, but through transport vehicles and such?

Hey guys, I hope you don't mind my new signature xD.

Anyways, Foxy's suggestions seems nice. Well perhaps using truck or trains for trading. Of course, there is the problem to lose a large amount of resources that players may experience. Say, a train(or truck) leaves from Berlin to Rome, and in the middle of the way, it gets bombed by Allied dive bombers. That would be easily solved if the player sends a escort, like some mobile AA Flaks and light/medium tanks, or even escort fighters. But that would require the players attention, resulting in a micro. Now I don't know if is a bad or a good micro, but I just had that idea. Damn, I type too much, next time I'll reduce it a bit :p

Quite likely, yes.
They will be a bit more balanced than in other games though; players with good economy will not be able to spam nukes, and you will be warned in advance when a nuke is being prepared and it will have a decent travel time that may allow you to detect it. There will be radiactive fallout etc though.

Nukes will mainly be a way of anhialating static defenses where they are clustered, and can also be used to discourage a player from using a certain area (due to the fallout debuffs). It is also good way to distract other players and cause them to move around their forces in panic, while you stage a surprise attack.

EDIT: If you are talking about the beta, then no, propably not.

You bastards need to click my signature and comment to keep my thread alive. :p
I'm helping you. :Sniff: :Sniff:
xD

On-Topic: Nuclear fallout effects on an area sound epic. You should have some sort of unit or ability to spread propaganda over cities or areas. It could have some minor negative effect on the region, the propaganda could be dropped from a plane maybe, or spread from microphones on vehicles.
It was a popular German tactic during WWII to cause enemy forces to either surrender or break down in morale and falter.
There would of course have to be a limit in order to prevent people from spamming propaganda.

I suppose too much Nuking would make some stuff a bit more tensed, since you've gotta sacrifice a useful plot of land to kill many enemy troops, along with more disadvantages.

I actually think it is a fun suggestion, i really like bizzare things like radiation mutation, although i would still say that the map is a little bit too small for it to work out.

About the "disadvantages"; i got a brilliant suggestion in the old thread on how nuke teching would work - that a player would choose to dedicate a given percentage of his income on nuke development, which is represented by a bar in the multiboard - once a certain total ammount has been reached, nukes will be unlocked for this player. You would have the ability to increase or decrease the percentage of income you want to spend on the development process manually, so that smaller countries could catch up by turtling while they revert their income on the nukes. In general, it would mean that countries that spend a lot of resources on researching nukes would be more vurnerable in the process, since they have less money to spend on their army. The time it would take to complete development would be up to a year, so you'd be rendering yourself vurnerable for quite some time.

Well that's a good point. I don't know what Fingolfin and Vuorma thinks, but in my opinion, it doesn't sound too good for the game.

I don't think so, we don't want to make the game too complicated. It might turn out frustrating since your ships will auto attack enemies with their turrets (as you remember, this will have a system of its own), and that's not too fun when your intention is to hijack it. It's an OK suggestion though, i just don't think it fits the map.

And about the transport ships, although that is pretty cool, it might turn out strange since we're using diversing models instead instead of teamcolor. I'm also not sure what would really happen to the units inside since blizzard really messed up the transport system in wc3 in so many ways.
