1) The trigger does not bug. The icon for building that unit dissappears as soon as you start building one of that unit, and reappears if you cancel.

2) I do believe that those skins would matter in the long run, as the rules hint that the original melee races should remain untouched, and I do believe that means not over-riding any of their models with custom skins. Just export the model you want to use and reconfigure it to use a different texture path, possibly giving it a different name if you want while at it.

Can the judgers just test the map against another race? :p
I dont know how to give a different path, and also i use the undeads blight.
Dont think it can be done in another way :/ Have spend so much time on the race and then i maybe gets discallified.

Well its hard not to be disqualified, with all those rules.
32 rules all in all. I for one want the rule: "The town hall may only have 1 tier." to be removed.
I see no need for it to be there.

@Zpider: Yeah, at first I was also puzzled by that one tier rule. But then chrome made it clear he doesn't want a regular race contest, but a mini race contest based on something like the naga. So the whole concept is based on "less is more".

@ X-OMG-X: Since chrome67 came up with the rules, I think he's the best person to answer that. Anyway why not duplicate the same model and use your skins on the new model? It would certainly avoid this sticky problem.

Then it will cost me very much space = i have to drop my cool interface:sad:

I wondered if I will be disqualified for using the sound editor to play a machine gun sound each time my air unit attacks.

You won't or so I highly believe. As the sound editor works in connection with trigger editor and the same thing could be achieved using that, then it makes no difference to the rules equal it should be 100% legal to do.

Meh, if you break 1 of the rules I won't disqualify your race, though you probably won't get it rated as highly compared to a race that does exist within the contest perimeters.

Also, try to center your race on one or two strategies, most people will only play through your race when testing it, if for no other reason than the vast amount of races that will be played through for this contest. This is not supposed to be a full on melee race, but rather something more like the Naga or Draenei.

Also, as far as testing goes, you don't need to have the race as well-balanced as the original four, and if you make your race subtly unbalanced more people will likely have fun testing it (though I would like to stress subtly[/]). Just make sure it is not blatantly unbalanced and you should be fine.

Obviously unbalanced things could include: Instantly creating the hero at the games start, having invisible units that can move/attack without breaking invisibility, being able to produce two heroes, etc. Any huge design flaw that gives your race an obvious advantage is something to avoid.

Basically don't stress out to much about the resource costs/time/hp/damage and other numeric values, if you base your custom units off of existing units that should not be much of a problem anyways, and as long as you are in the right balpark of values your race should seem relatively well balanced.

List of abilitys my units use:


Spirit Bear: This unit will after its death, stay behind a short moment in its Spirit Form.

Swipe: Works just like Cleaving Attack

Forest Swiftness: Gives a 10% chance to attack 20% faster for 3 seconds, on an attack.

Rejuvenation Dust: Throws a mystical dust at the target area. The dust regrows all trees in the area and gives a chance to summon a Tree Spirit out of a regrown tree

Burning Oil: Drenches the Catapults ammo in burning oil, causing them to light the ground on fire and burn enemy units.

Liquid Fire: Flings a volatile liquid that causes buildings to take damage over time. Buildings that are currently taking damage from Liquid Fire cannot be repaired, and have their attack rate reduced.

Spirit Form: Transforms the unit into a Spirit Dragon

Stealth Tactic: The unit enters stealth every 5 second, allowing him to combat his enemies in a different way. Lasts 15 seconds.
The way the player is ment to use this spell is to send a squad of these and - attack, stealth, attack, stealth, attack

Sentry Ward: Allowes the player to see invisible units

Ensnare: Unit cannot move and Air units that are ensnared can be attacked as though they were land units.

Healing Ward: A ward that heals.

Not entirely done with the abilitys. Might make some changes.

# Blue skinned trolls can only be built after number eight is built (see Second Picture)

# Bear can only be built once number five (see Second Picture) has been upgraded.

# Unit to the right is a fairly useless caster, unless you research spells for him.

My map size is currently 1.41 MB. However the hero takes up 447 kb. So not that many imports.
Which I find to be a good thing, I like it clean. But I might remove one of my units with a better version of it, since I got the space.
My race is pretty much complete, but that does not mean changes wont happen.

Yes - I will not tell you guys anything about my hero, yet.

I am currently trying to make the trigger that was included in the map to work. I contacted the guy that made the trigger, eight days ago.
Still no response. Please check this pastebin to see what the problem is.

The trigger is diffrent in the movie clip but regardless, the same thing happen with the new trigger. If someone know a way to solve this please let me know.

Triggers/Systems: 98% - read above
Upgrades: 100% - Unless I change abilitys.
Structures: 95% (Optimize tooltips)
Abilities: 98% - Need balancing, might change one or two abilitys.
Icons: 100%
Units: 98% - Need balancing, might change one or two abilitys.
Hero: 95% - Some minor changes are needed, ultimate is quite boring. I might do something about that.

With great shame and displeasure, I have to say that I wont be able to finish it in time, and so I have to quit the contest. Though I knew I wouldnt win, I wanted to show what I can do.
Anyway, good luck everyone else, though some races are just amazing, and some race are ok, I still believe that amount of work put in it, is deserving an award, just for it.

that bat rider needs a reskin. it would be much better.
 
I'll post some WIPs when I'm feeling less lazy lol, I should definitely be done in time though.

@Gyrosphinx: Those WIPs are amazing! Your race looks so awesome! I must crush them... :p
Really awesome race, Gyro, hope I still have a chance of winning lol, everyone seems to be doing very well in this Contest =D
Mind you, the main purpose of me being here is to:
A) See how I'll fair competetively in making races, and
B) Play some god damned new races and see what people come up with under these rules =D

I like to point out that wc3 allows for 3 heroes t the same time.... (Unless your connecting it to your tier1 rule, although that would turn the balance in favor of the standard races... :con:)

Anyway a good explanation.

That was mostly about creating doubles of the same hero, I could see how that could be taken the wrong way though. The map this is on also has a tavern to the best of my knowledge, so the other hero spaces can still be taken up. And some heroes *cough*dark ranger*cough* are freaking awesome.

Yes, and in that case the race would be better off to start off with their hero. Being able to instantly summon one at the games start when said option is not enabled would offer from some cheap tactics at the games start, especially in the map for this contest.

Most unusual aspects can be balanced in some way, but it is pretty easy to distinguish between an intentional unique aspect of a race and an unpolished/accidental one. There are ways to justify doing everything I advised against doing, it's just there needs to be a lot of thought put into it ;)

That is a joke - Do consider the user is LeetFireFox... What else could it be... The real awesome trigger to implant would spawn 10 random ghouls on the map which will gain a mission to eat brains of all workers near them... Anyway - I am still very curious to see if I get the time to make a WIP :wink: So I am not in yet. (Then I won't have to leave should I not make it)

Just to make sure I am not misunderstood - I am not asking for an extension in any way.. I have just been reading so much in this tread that I am hoping I get time to do something before the 9 November. But I am not a participant.. unless I post a WIP here

Just to make it clear.. Of course you are free to ask for a extension should you need one :wink: Although it seems unlikely seeing how many nice (and complete appearing) races that have been shown.

Here the first Wip screen of my spider full race. Not very exciting but should prove that the race is made by me, according to the rules.

Yea thats the funny part about these kind of competitions, in reality a picture would never prove you made something.. you could in theory just have taken a picture of someone else's work - I am speaking in general terms here and not referring your picture.

Whats the flying spider doing? Besides flying/jumping?
 
I don't think it's flying or jumping so much as it's just really f***ing huge :p

Also, about the pictures, I think the main problem is that taking pictures to prove you own your own work kinda places a heavy emphasis on trying not to use the same models that anyone else is using, even if they're doing the same race as you. After all, the 2 other people working on Trolls (forgetting Ice Trolls for now because they're very much different) have already changed their choices because of my WIP. 'Tis funny, tho :p
 
I must admit,

Forest Troll race
Demon Race
Corrupted Race
Felwood Race (Satyr and corrupted Anciants)
Undead
Goblin etc.

all those race will probably wont get my vote, simply because the only job they had to do is to create the race instead of finding a way to create models with the existing one, had to make new icons for their race, had to use warcraft3 model and make some mix with the attachments to make it look good. etc.etc.etc.etc

I'm not saying their race will be bad.. just that they had a major advantage for those who picked races like ''furbold'' ''kobold'' ''Tuskarr'' ''spider'' ''hive'' etc.

because we started with only 3 model from warcraft3 and we had to find a way to make a hole race out of it.
(when there's no model of that race found elsewhere).

So I just want to say, for those who haven't picted a hard race, you'd better find a way to make your spell and units look epic cause you wont get alot of point for creativity.

I picked the Hivers. There are hardly any models that look like Hive members, so I chose some models that seemed to fit. I am not a modeler nor a skinner nor an icon makes so the only thing I can do is to search for models/icons/skins that I like. Do I look like I have a major advantage?
