Does the hero have to have any "abilites" per se?

Because the only "ability" ours has is the "ability" to make portals :3

Well yea you would need to have abilities, since that would count to a fair bit of the judging of heroes. It should be fine though if you made abilities similar to the portal one, that would go with the gameplay, its just you would need to be a bit imaginative about what they are.

Well the original Portal game didn't have much in the way of abilites... just make portals and pick up items.

EDIT: What about WarSoc? Can we use that?

After this, I think pairs should be...paired in the next comp, make it interesting, see how groups of four submit a final draft or try to kill eachother and split before the deadline.

Mine and Fibians map is 80% compleat all we have to do is make 8 more heros for the ferst release. Also are we aloud to protect it or do you have to see the triggers. also we never made a rpg.

It cannot be protected for your submission. If you want to upload it to the map database afterwards then feel free to protect it.
