Description

Inspired by maps like Legendary Gladiators, Orc Gladiators and X Hero Siege, Outerworld Arena puts you in the shoes of fighters in an atypical arena, forcing you to fight for your survival, facing masses of enemies looking to kill you!

History

You don't remember how, but you are caged. An unknown location, for an unknown reason, forced to fight for your life in an arena that is unfair to you. Your soul, which roams the place as if in a prison, is forced to choose a receptacle every time the arena is used. The armies marching into the arena need to be defeated for the entertainment of a mysterious creature, but it seems that nothing satisfies it. Your allies, other souls in the same situation, always change... They are almost never the same people. It's time to put an end on this, freedom is needed.

Features

  • Item Merging System: Items can be leveled up by having two same level and description items;
  • Lives System: You and your teammates share the same lives counter, meaning that all of you must die to lose a life;
  • Heroes: You can choose from a total of 45 heroes (And more upcoming!);
  • Hero Ranks: Each hero has three different forms, each one with a brand new ability;
  • Difficulty: Four difficulties available, each one with new enemies, new strategies and new complexity;

Developer's Note

This is the original idea for this project: Gladiator Arena Idea

I tried to stick into what we already have in Warcraft itself (in terms of resources), and create something new with it. I expect to achieve a good result with this work, even working all by myself (and with the community help of course).

Today, almost three years after the start of Outerworld Arena, here I am, looking for a job in the game industry as Game Designer, and with a project that proves my skills in game development. Developing this project gave me something that I didn't have, but I needed: the necessary confidence to move forward.

I will always be grateful to Hive Workshop and all its community, because this experience, I'll carry my whole life. This project is not "protected". I'd like to leave it open, so other devs can look into it, and extract information and/or learn from it. The same knowledge I've received developing this project, I'd like to share. I don't allow any change on this project, but feel free to recommend or ask permission to do something related to it. You'll be welcomed.

As this project is walking towards its completion, I expect to create one more project for our beloved Warcraft. This, a Zombie Map, that'll try to bring something new in relation of what we already have. The project idea for now is this one: Idea for Zombie Map

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Hmmmmmmm... Your review gave me positive feedback to make some changes already planned, but under validation:

  • Stats scaling for Abilities, which interfer directly into game balance, and consequently into the usage of abilities;
  • Improve all existing abilities, making secondary effects, not letting them be exactly what they are in Warcraft;
  • Trinket Shop, a planned shop that'll contain triggered items that affect the game rules, like bonus bounty for example;



However, the hero one isn't that interesting, basically upping stats and giving the ultimate ability.
This one took me by surprise. If you have any recommendation, I'd like to hear/read.

This one I'm already working on. I've noticed that is more fun to make unusual things than use the standards. The new version 0.90b, which is not launched yet, has three new heroes full triggered, and was fun to develop them haha. I got happy enough to develop my version of Borrowed Time (Abaddon, Dota).

Items are limited.
I'll definitely insert the Trinket Shop. It'll bring new dynamics into the game, and help with this issue. I tried to keep other possible items as "chance of drop", and made the shops with lesser variety, so players can't get lost between waves.
Would be an idea to have different hue colours for the item levels.
In which way exactly? Today, I'm working on this system:

Common, Uncommon, Accessories and Rank 1, Rare and Armors, Epic and Potions, Legendary, Artifact, Abyssal, Relic, Themed, Rank 2 and Scrolls, Rank 3 and the upcoming Trinkets.
