Lost Lake v1.3

(2)Lost Lake

Story

Revenants have sealed themselves within the Water Temple.
Once deemed a mere myth of magical mystery, it is now obvious the legends of its power were true.

Will you crash the gates and stop their nefarious actions? Harnessing the temple's energy for yourself?
Or simply destroy your opponent before they do so...

The choice is yours on.. Lost Lake Lake Lake

Goal
An aesthetically pleasing 1v1 melee map designed for both competitive play and casual play vs computers.

The Snarecaster is a very good unit. He is as strong as a 3/3 Dryad and casts Slow + Abolish magic
Well worth the 3 food supply in my opinion. Basically a tanky Kobold Geomancer.

The Hermit gives early access to Purge. A strong merc camp without being too overpowered.
Unit names on the table will link to their Liquipedia page.

helped a great deal with balancing the map and taught me some neat tricks and functions within the World Editor.
He has set a new standard for building and presenting melee maps and provided a platform for creators via the Fig Cup. Mad respect dude.
TheTurtle also helped with some suggestions and inspiration.
Tenshi has some cool maps that inspired me as well.
Pickles answering questions and providing guidance.

I also get inspired by watching top players and tournaments on Back2Warcraft channel.
Keep up the great work fellas!

Grubby has loads of fun content too and I love watching his recent Altar of Champions tournaments.

Much respect to the team at W3Champions.

Enjoy the map and as always I'm open to feedback and criticism constructive or otherwise.
Cheers!

Tactics
The Revenants (accompanied by Elementals) guard the Mana Fountain and are sealed via destructible gates.
They are also elevated so it is recommended that you pull them with a ranged unit or hero from the tiny island adjacent to the entrances.
Their leader is a level 10 Deeplord Revenant and is no joke. He can cast both Frost Armor and Crushing Wave which hits both land and air units, and hits hard.

Consider units and heroes that can take advantage of the fountain, or an army that counters said approach if you suspect your opponent will be doing so.

Regarding the Fountain
Now I know what you're thinking..
Can't I just get a gang of flying units and cheese the red camp in the middle??

Well.. I've tested this with each race and its not as effective as you might think.
The level 8 Revenant summons Water Elementals that fight back, and more importantly the level 10 will cast Crushing Wave repeatedly, melting your flyers.

It is however quite effective with upgraded and buffed tier 3 flyers like Griffons or Chimera.
But at that point, you can crush just about any creep camp in the game with such an army.

Changelog
V1.0
A beautiful monstrosity that I played vs computers on exclusively
V1.1
Rearranged camps to help with unwanted aggro
V1.2
More symmetrical layout (still full of imperfections)
V1.3
Standardized loot tables added
Balanced creep camp levels
Fully symmetrical camps and tree lines
Swapped the Marketplace for a second Goblin Merchant
More anti-air units guarding the Mana Fountain
Terrain adjusted: raising grassy areas and lowering sand/pathways
Lowered trees and other doodads so none are floating above terrain
Adjusted doodads for better unit pathing
More space for buildings in main base area
2 more critters added (now 8 total) (10 including the seagulls)
Filled any remaining gaps in doodads and tree lines

It's a bit better than the previous one but has similar issues especially pertaining overall size and building space. Approved.
Please follow the melee mapping description guides below.

Awaiting Update.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.
