First wip - Breath of Fire (Neutral Hostile) for Red Dragon.

Untitled-3.jpg
Yeah! That's pretty dang good. Too good, in fact, for Wc3; really nice & detailed.

I'll join with some icons for the undead mage unit (because drawing skulls is fun).

So here is some ideas for spells:
lmlDWTS.jpg

And I'm already done with one of the icons; the firebolt.

another icon;

Life Drain

GAAAAAHHHHH.

Mad is here. Now it's a party. :)

This is so cool. ^This is why I'm glad I snapped you up for Trolls. Those Skulls are sah-weet.

Life Drain is solid-sugar-baby, except for the strange non-anatomy of the skull; it has, like, the top of the head and bottom jaw, but no connection? Or it may just be strangely posed.

Man, that'd go great for jigrael's Deadeye's original skillset, Quench Life. Maaaan.

Archimonde FTW!!! Nah, WIP:

EDITED. Suggestions please?
Not bad. Think you might wanna get a little bit of the "mossiness" that the Mountain Giants have, though. Also some definition; so far it's lookin' a little... flat? Keep going, though.

Well, I've put some bats around, because the dreadlord's death animation includes bats, so I guess that should be somewhat suggestive... Like the bats are forming him anew or something. :p

Also, are we allowed to change the projectile/effect of a spell, like for example change the Carrion Swarm's Insects with bats or something like that? Sorry if that was already answered...

I think yes.

Nearly completed the first icon, Charm for Naga Siren:

Although i'm not too satisfied with the result.

Very nice.

Suggestions:
- Zoom in a bit (original Charm is only the eye). I know it will cut away a bit of your well drawn face, but I think 80% size is possible.
- Buff the shinies coming out of the eye. Longer rays, more rays, bigger origin, brighter colour at the origin.

Looks nice and even if it not your top quality i think it will strike others to maintain a minimal quality. As expected of a mod.

EDIT: I like morbent and mad's icons too.

Wip 2 - Mannaroth War Stomp

This is yet temporary.

Wip 1 - Mannaroth Thunder Clap or Shockwave

Wip 1 - Mannaroth Skill

Maybe Mannoroth Charm?

Looks good!

Make some more "effects" coming out of the stomp, would make it more clear. Maybe half as much as the shockwave coming out of the second icon

Third icon I think can pass as Charm. If someone uses it for Mannoroth in a map, it can easily be renamed to "Intimidate", which would have the same effect.

Alright, I've changed the life drain icon (edit: ...and not the fire bolt, it's just there for show :>) a little (thanks for your feedback!) and finished my third icon, which is suposed to be a Ensnare.

But I must ask a question;

Am I allowed to do this kind of stuff that changes the look of the spell, for this example making Ensnare to a frost spell, while keeping the effect the same and differ the look?

In this case I would say it's quite alright. My opinion of course.
And that frost ensnare icon looks fabulous. It really looks like ice. Lovely :)

U can differ the look, but it must be reminiscent a bit of the original.

Thanks!

I hope it is allowed, since I'm starting to feel the pain of sitting unergonomic for too long x)

I supose this means I've to do another icon then? I wouldn't be upset if I had to :)

I'll be honest, I think those icons are in descending order of "fitting-ness"... The first is gol'darned perfect, the second is nearly so, and the third... Well, I dunno.

Now, let me be clear; the artistry is soo good. But I can not quite tell what it is to be honest (ice-crystals... and a bone?), and it definitely doesn't remind me of "Ensnare" (wouldn't the ice be on the *enemy* rather than the skeleton? Why not just say it's an Icon for a modified Spiked Carapace ("Sheathes the Skeleton Lord in layers of spectral ice, increasing his armor & causing enemy attacks to reflect damage")). Maybe it's the lack of high-contrast/sharp-lines, as seen in your first one.

But yeah. Keep it up ya'll!

I think you should try and define the boot/foot a bit more. Right now it is kind of blurry and melts into the background. The strongest points with your other two icons is the clarity and crispness, but in the "entangle" one you've used much softer shadings compared to those other two.
If not for the bluriness it also looks like a completely different style.

If I would not know what that last icon is supposed to be I don't think I would see what is going on in it.

The first two does look fantastic though.

Hello, that icon gives the impression of water/ice. I think if u use arcane tower's original purple/pink color or maybe do sth diff to this icon it would give feedback impression on the first look.

But must say. Have you seen Obsidian Statue's mana refill spell icon? What does it's color looked like? Yes blue! The mana has only blue color. I've never seen purple/pink mana until now. =_=

BTW nice icons, eubz.

I rem obsidian statue refill mana and hp FYI. The icon was for mana burn and not mana refill. That is why i told the icon does not give the impression of ability burning mana away.

Ur icons are very close to the Mannoroth skin, it's like u slightly edited some screenshots.
I want to remind u that, contest material has to be from scratch/freehand. In this contest(and contests in general), the participants show off their skills.
CnPing is like ''doping'' in athletics. :)

I have already read trough the contest rules, You don't need to remind me of anything. This is not an icon uploading to the gallery, its a contest with a given theme. I haven't edited any screen-shots at all. The freehand rules does not apply to the contest, otherwise it should be named a free-hand contest.

Furthermore Sin'dorei300, take a look at the rules:
4vjo5t.png

Edit: I was just trying to be clear enough, seemingly Sin'dorei300 may abuse his moderation powers.

From always, the 100% freehand unwritten rule in icon contests was understood by almost all the people.
U're an exception.

Now it's written in the main post.

You cant change the rules of the contest in a half-middle. You had to do it in the beginning of the contest. This is like creating a rule in the middle of the contest that says you cant create colored icons. I will contact the rest of the staff in this matter.

U can call other mods to be sure. But even if u are right and approved it will be v hard to win bec others are bringing good icons.

I was wondering why u did not bring this matter earlier

This is Arena, this is a contest, we fight with the best weapons, our skills.
Work from scratch - it's stands to reason.

I am leaving this contest, good luck to others who participate. In future maybe there will be some normal contest without silly rules of how the icon must be archived. Freehand rule is and always was the most irritating thing in the community. This is a Warcraft III Community not some art gallery. Maybe in future everything changes from this horrible system- Hive 2 + hope.

U're an exception.

The rules said:
The icons must be made specifically for the contest. No previous works are allowed

That can be interpreted as everything in the icon must be made for this contest. It eliminates copy pasting.

The icon contest is exactly about art.

Hey, just gonna interrupt your warfare with a design question;

I'm considering to recolor the fire bolt icon to green and stick with green fire as a theme.
I'm doing this because of the skeleton mage model contains green fire (the burning skull and wand).
GRioFUF.png

If I'm allowed to do this, I'll have to consider to remake the life drain abillity to a fire breath abillity or maybe do a seperate fire breath abillity and keep the life drain.

Also, new icon;
Rain of fire, it looks really alike the rain of fire from world of warcraft. I thought it existed in wc3 but apparently it didn't. I can confess I was inspired by it, but I drew it like from memory or something.
