Comments from the Author (no need to read this; just me yapping)At this point we are currently on version 8.6, and was uploading the map to epicwar with protection using the WC3 Map Optimizer v5.0, but I think that I'm done with this map, all of it was done with the user interface, and all the potential upgrades can be done by coding, but I'm not interested on learning to code, so I decided to upload the map without protection here in case an enthusiast map editor wishes to improve it further. I would rather make this map as a standalone game doing proper programming.

Thanks to the comment of CapAd I decided to review the map and make some improvements to it both on "code" and some balance stuff. So, this lead us to current version 8.8. I even got motivated to improve this page with the description and give it some formatting. :cool:2



Start of the Match

At the beginning of the match, your camera will be facing the hero pool. From there, you have two ways of picking a hero:
  • Type -random in chat (which has a 0.01% chance of spawning a secret hero).
  • Click a Hero and then type -pick.
    • The Hero pool is ordered in 3 rows, which from top to bottom are sorted by attributes:
      • STR
      • AGI
      • INT
After picking your hero, it will spawn on the center of the map, and will be provided with the following items:
  • Scroll of Healingx3 (x6 if -random was used)
    • When used, heals life for a small amount to self and nearby allied units.
  • Scroll of Manax3 (x6 if -random was used)
    • When used, heals mana for a small amount to self and nearby allied units.
  • Health Stonex2 (x4 if -random was used)
    • When used, heals life for a large amount to self. While on inventory, boosts HP regen.
  • Mana Stonex2 (x4 if -random was used)}
    • When used, heals mana for a large amount to self. While on inventory, boosts Mana regen.
  • Vampiric potionx1 (x2 if -random was used)
    • When used, provides a small bonus damage and life stealing attacks.
  • Scroll of Full Healx1 if -random was used
    • When used, fully heals both life and mana of self and nearby allied units.
Once your hero spawns, you should go to your lane depending on your player slot:
  • Player 1 (Red): Left Lane.
  • Player 2 (Blue): Top Lane.
  • Player 3 (Teal): Right Lane.
  • Player 4 (Purple): Bottom Lane.

Starting Units

You are provided immediately with a small amount of units that will help you on your mission:
  • Zeppelin
    • The main utility of this unit is to carry your hero to the Stats & XP Store and to the fountains of healing.
    • The unit counts with inventory to carry items, but it cannot use them.
    • You can turn the tip messages off with an ability that the Zeppelin has.
    • It is recommended to assign a control group to have fast access to it (Ctrl + some number).
  • Sidekick
    • The sidekick is a unit that will gain abilities and utility through the game.
    • The main purpose is to support you and your building by repairing or providing mana to your temple.
    • After each boss wave, this unit will gain mana pool and new abilities.
    • Sidekicks are always invulnerable, so don't worry about keeping them safe, just be sure to keep them near in order to help you.
    • It is recommended to assign a control group to have fast access to it (Ctrl + some number).
  • Idol of Protection
    • These units can help you on early levels to tank enemy damage.
    • They have a mana shield which doesn't hold for long, but it's renewable.
    • Units killed by these will provide both XP and gold to your hero.
  • Temple
    • This is one of your objectives, you need to protect it from being destroyed in order to reach the True Ending.
    • It provides various Miracles that can help you and your teammates to last longer on fights.
    • It is recommended to assign a control group to have fast access to it (Ctrl + some number).

Creep Waves

Each time a wave begins, a message will pop telling you the properties that they have.
  • Siege (Units that only attack structures), Splash or Invisible
  • Damage Type
  • Ranged or Melee
On your lane, there are 2 places where there are rocks, which will provide gold per second when standing on them:
  • Ice
    • Provides 10 gold per second, with a maximum of 300 gold per round.
  • Fire
    • Provides 15 gold per second, with a maximum of 450 gold per round.
Ideally, you would start the wave on one rock, and 30 seconds later you switch to the other in order to gather the total of 750 gold.

Every third wave of creeps is either a special creep or a boss
  • Waves 3, 9, 15, 21 are special creeps.
    • Special creeps have Resistant Skin.
  • Waves 6, 12, 18, 24 are bosses.
    • For boss waves, it is recommended that you fall back to your Idols of Protection since bosses hit really hard and can kill you easily if not prepared.

Arenas

Similar to the creeps behavior, before each third wave an arena event happens, which will provide a gold reward for the winner(s):
  • Before Waves 3, 9, 15, 21 are PvE Arenas.
    • Win Condition: Defeat all the creeps in the arena before the timer runs out.
      • All players win the reward.
  • Before Waves 6, 12, 18, 24 are PvP Arenas.
    • Win Condition: Defeat the other players in the arena before the timer runs out.
      • Surviving player wins the reward.

Heroic Relics

After each boss wave, every player will be provided with lumber, which can be used to buy Heroic Relics from the stores:
  • First Boss reward: 1 Lumber.
  • Second Boss reward: 3 Lumber.
  • Third Boss reward: 5 Lumber.
  • Fourth Boss reward: 9 Lumber. (Only useful if you manage to get the True Ending).
Each Heroic Relic will provide a set of Active & Passive abilities that can complement your hero's kit.

Mercenaries

After each boss wave, you will be provided with a new member to your party, which can fight alongside you. They can carry 2 items, but they don't have a mana pool.
  • First Boss reward: Priest.
  • Second Boss reward: Archer.
  • Third Boss reward: Soldier.
  • Fourth Boss reward: Assassin. (Only useful if you manage to get the True Ending).

Temple of God

On the center of the map, there's one of the main objectives, a temple that cannot be used by any player, but can help you through the match.

Every 3 waves it will provide near-global auras to your team. The range is from the center to the Ice rock area.
  • Wave 3: Devotion.
  • Wave 6: Unholy.
  • Wave 9: Brilliance.
  • Wave 12: Schematics.
  • Wave 15: Thorns.
  • Wave 18: Endurance & Trueshot.
  • Wave 21: Conviction & Gravity.
  • Wave 24: Command & Vampiric.
Additionally, it heals allied units nearby it with a rate of 1% HP & MP per second.

Safe Items & Build Up.

Most heroes are happy to reach level 13 as soon as possible in order to have 2 basic skill in their max level, and then just start buying items according to their attributes. So, it should be like this:
  1. Buy Tomes of Experience from the Stats & XP Store until you reach level 13.
  2. Buy a couple of weapon items to improve your attack speed and damage.
  3. Buy a couple of armor items to improve your resistance.
  4. Buy Heroic Relics that suit your hero.
  5. If your hero is a right clicker that lacks AOE, buy a Soul Sword or a Pot of Echoes from the Weapons Store.
  6. If your hero is a tank that lacks right click utility, buy a Soul Gatherer from the Armor Store.
  7. If your hero is a spell caster with long cooldowns, buy a Codex of Clarity from the Ability Store.
  8. Type in chat "-bt" to buy stats tomes.
Of course, each hero has its own wants and needs, so feel free to freestyle the build to discover their true potential.

Difficulty Rises

After each boss kill, the difficulty will rise via the following changes:
  • More creeps spawn, each time with more HP, Attack Damage and Abilities.
  • Bosses spawn with more and better items compared to the previous one.
  • From wave 13 to 24, if your hero dies it will not revive instantly. Instead, you will need to wait a timer or win a minigame.

TRUE Ending

After defeating the Mastermind, if all 4 Temples are alive, the True Ending will be triggered.

This will be an all-out war featuring all the bosses and all the special creeps that you've fought so far.

Hardcore Mode will be engaged. This means that if your Hero dies, it won't respawn, and your mercenaries will no longer resurrect.

If you manage to survive with all 4 Heroes alive, the good ending cinematic will be triggered.
If you don't manage to survive with all 4 Heroes alive, a bad ending cinematic will be triggered, which will change dialogs depending on the amount of heroes that survived.



Improvements:
-Tyrant: Added visual indicator for AOE on Domain Expansion.
-PvP Arena: On draw, gold reward is shared between the survivors.

Balancing:
-Temple: Added 2 new passive miracles for the endgame.
-Yeti: Ancestral Strength stat gain reduced. War Stomp stun duration reduced.
-Powerhouse: Avatar duration and cooldown reduced.
-Mountain Sage: Entangling Roots cooldown increased.
-Paladin: Blessed Strikes healing reduced.
-Clairvoyant: Death Flag duration reduced.
-Ancient Artifact: Vorpal Blades percent damage decreased.
-Brawler: Cleaving Attack percent damage decreased.
-Soul Sword percent damage decreased.
-Top Tank Master: Smoke Screen is no longer a channeling spell. Duration reduced.
-Myth Huntress: Volcano is no longer a channeling spell.

Fixes:
-Fix for bots not buying the proper XP tomes.
Improvements:
-3 New Heroes.

Balancing:
-Index of Chaos: Now it provides access to multiple spells (Flare, Taunt, Slam & Divine Shield).
-Reduced stat gain of Heroic Relics on tiers 2 onwards.

Fixes:
-Fix for bots going crazy when targeted by Unholy-Frenzy-type spells.
-Fix for crashes when non-hero units bought tomes of any kind.
-Fix for non-hero units activating the tomes for themselves instead of granting the stat/xp gain to the hero of the player,
-Due to previous fixes, now all tomes need to be activated manually when bought directly from the store. It is highly recommended to use the -bxp & -bt commands to buy tomes.
For older versions, you can search on epicwar, but they are "protected" so editing might be difficult.
You can also download this Zip file which contains versions v1.0 to v8.6

*due to the changelog originally being only in-game, some of them got cut due to length of text, so maybe some information is missing.
Improvements:
-Now supports bots! They are terrible, but at least they will fill the missing players in case that you want to attempt to go for the TRUE Ending. Just remember to set the player slot as computer.
-Improvement on code for handling bots.
-Improvement on code for handling plotter of illusion locusts.
-Improvement on triggers: now we will try to only enable those that are actually being used, and keep turned off those that won't be used depending on heroes picked. This should improve performance a bit. Also, clumping triggers that use generic events only in one trigger in order to improve performance.
-New command to buy XP tomes: -bxp will buy bulk of tomes depending on your level (1 to 15 will buy the 1500g ones, 15 onwards will buy the 4500g ones).

Balancing:
-Reduced duration of corpses to default (from 160 seconds to 88 seconds)
-Secretary of Defense: Reduced duration and cooldown of Shackles.
-Cursed Trident: Increased armor reduction to 40.

Fixes:
-Attempt to fix for random crashes.
Improvements:
-Anti-Magic potions now can be bought on stacks on inventory (previously, only stacks of 1 could be held on the inventory).
-Added new item on XP & Stats store: Jade Ring.

Balancing:
-Scroll of Restoration: Reduced gold cost.
-Amulet of Spell Shield: Reduced gold cost.
-Belt of Resistance: Increased gold cost.
-Arcanite Shield: Reduced gold cost.
-Yeti ultimate now needs 12 attacks to trigger.
-Worker's HP now is the same as your Hero. This is in order to allow the worker to use the target dummy.
-Amount of items on a stack on inventory for Consumable Store items has been reduced.
-When temple of god reaches 20% HP, it will release 4 Target Dummy units.

Fixes:
-Fix for -go not working when players left the game.
-Fix for players who left not being removed from the leaderboard.
-Fix for logic of players who left. Some old logic was causing issues when a player left and the temple was killed afterwards.
-Fix for Miracle - Last Chance using old region logic instead of unit groups in order to move creeps back to spawn.
Improvements:
-Now True Ending is reachable when a player leaves.
-When a Player leaves, creeps will keep spawning from their lane, and only the buildings of the leaving player will be kept in the game, so it's up to the rest of the players to defend it if they want to reach the True Ending.
-When the Temple of a player who left the game is destroyed, all the creeps on their lane will be killed and will stop spawning since the requisite for the True Ending has been failed.
-Removed "Fanatic" unit, kinda useless. Instead, buildings now have mana regen of 0.2 per second in order to match the previous 2 fanatics 1 mana per 10 seconds Prayer skill.
-Changed models of some heroes. Just because.
-Moved stores.

Balancing:
-Increased mana pool of Idols of Protection to 1000.
-Modified the terrain near the Temple in order to allow more creeps in, it was easy to block with some heroes that had summons or with enough Mercenaries.
-Temple of God now performs the role of the rejuvenation fountain but with lesser intensity and lesser range (1%).
-Rejuvenation Fountains now heal faster than before (3%).
-Deploy Experimental Unit: Decreased Attack Rate.
-Full Throttle: Nerfed Scaling on later levels.
-Blessed Strikes: Nerfed Scaling.
-Draconic Shell: Duration reduced.

Fixes:
-Fix for creep items spawning on the ground after killed.
Improvements:
-Creep Wave text improved in order to be more concise.
-Creep now will have their abilities listed via items on their inventory.
-Added abilities to the zeppelin which showcase the commands available to the players.
-Taunt is now auto-cast on soldier mercenary.

Balancing:
-Added new types of waves: Siege & Invisible.
-Siege Waves: Creeps that will only be able to target wards and structures. They move and attack faster than normal creeps.
-Invisible: Creeps that have permanent invisibility.
-Removed Moad Snake from ability store, I think that nobody bought that item, and those who bought it probably regreted it instantly.
-Added Target Dummy to ability store. This item will summon 1 unit which can be targeted by all enemies (including siege). It is considered a structure, so it can be repaired by the worker later in the game.
-Royal Demolisher: Reduced bonus damage to buildings. Reduced Critical Strike chance and now it should be able to affect buildings.
-Sacrificial Reaver: Now is part of the invis type creeps.

Fixes:
-None.
Improvements:
-None.

Balancing:
-None.

Fixes:
-Fix for triggers to remove or move creep units. Mostly this fixes exploits for when players left the game, and improves the functionality of item FG-C193. (NOW IT IS REALLY FIXED, TRUST ME).
Improvements:
-Now Attack Modifier abilities will display how they interact with Heroic Relics.
-Updated some tips to explain better some things that have been updated on time.
-Mercenaries now spawn further down the lane. New players mostly never realized that they had these units available until late game when their temple was being pushed.

Balancing:
-True Ending: Now you receive 9 lumber instead of 7. Reduced creep amount to 3 of each.
-Scepter of Avarice: Reduced cooldown from 60s to 45s.
-Now heroes revive with 50% of their mana pool.
-Top Tank Master: Reinforced Armor now scales better (?).
-Hardcore Mode: Mercenaries will lose reincarnation if the hero dies.
-Temple being destroyed will no longer spawn a Godless Soul. It will only spawn when a hero dies on Hardcore Mode.
-Codex of Clarity: Cooldown reduced from 360 seconds to 240 seconds.

Fixes:
-Fix for AOE custom spells that interacted with Locust units (not intended to be like that). This lead to cases like i.e. Corrupt Mage with Demonology one shotting a CEO of Dragons when the Draconic Spirit effect ended while on Arena PVP (each Locust death triggered one Demonology instance).
-Fix for repick floating texts not dissapearing after pick phase ends.
-Fix for some cases were units could trigger the damage taken on Temples without doing any actual damage.
-Fix for some abilities like Diversion working while on Arena countdown.
-Fix for some custom abilities considering Locust type units for their calculations.
-Fix for triggers to remove or move creep units. Mostly this fixes exploits for when players left the game, and improves the functionality of item FG-C193.
-Fix for Codex of Clarity not being affected by INT Heroes Cooldown reduction.
-Fix for Scout Master boss not being affected by INT Heroes Cooldown reduction.
Improvements:
-Now we upload the map to Hiveworkshop and set it as Open Source.

Balancing:
-Reduced the amount of creeps on True Ending by 3 of each one.

Fixes:
-Updated triggers of custom abilities in order to avoid unintended wave timer skips due to damage being done or healing being done to units that are already dead.
-Fix for Quality Assurance not working.
-Canon: Fixed not applying bonus damage to main target.
-Pop-Off: Made the custom trigger to move the unit and then damage it in order to avoid unwanted behavior.
Improvements:
-Removed SFX of damage done by the stats, which caused lag when many units are hit. Similar fix for Pot of Echoes SFX, it is now replaced by the SFX of cleave, which should use less resources.
-Divine Punishment: Removed target SFX.
-Amplify Damage: Removed target SFX.

Balancing:
-Top Tank Master: Removed Curse. Added Smoke Screen.

Fixes:
-Fix for Mend working on illusions of the Priest.
Improvements:
-Updated load screen text, hoping that it would make the basics clearer.
-Updated tooltips of abilities and items to display stack conflicts that may exist with each other.
-Temple of God is now invulnerable; it becomes vulnerable once a player's Temple is destroyed.
-Temple of God now has an inventory item that will display the details of the auras provided by it.
-Now the arena will display the reward at the center of it.

Balancing:
-Special Waves now have Resistant Skin.
-Waves 22 & 23 now have Spell Shield instead of Resistant Skin.
-Command -repick now can be used only while on Pick phase.
-Bosses items are now predetermined.
-Attrition Specialist: Permanent Immolation removed. Added Raise Dead.

Fixes:
-Mend now doesn't heal while the priest is dead.
-Demonology now doesn't trigger on summoned or illusion enemy dying units.
-Tooltip of Kevlar Vest fixed to reflect the real reduction (it was doing the reduction properly, but the tooltip was doing reference to the value of another ability).
Improvements:
-Made revival minigames more forgiving.
-Updated tooltips that referenced old sidekicks.

Balancing:
-Reduced cost of Soul Gatherer.
-Gave +10 mana regeneration to Sidekick.
-Now after each of the first 3 boss kills, a new aid unit will come to help you on the quest. You can buy a few items for it.
-Reaper of Souls: Sundering Attacks bonus reduced.

Fixes:
-Soul Gatherer: Now it doesn't heal when illusions or summons die nearby.
-Sundering Attacks: Now it doesn't require a tech upgrade.
Improvements:
-Auras shop removed. Instead, before every special wave or boss wave, the God Temple will provide permanently a near-global aura.
-Worker shop removed. Instead, workers will gain new features before a boss wave.
-After a wave ends, all units will be healed to full life.
-PVE Arenas will now trigger even if there's only one player. PVP Arenas will still not trigger if there's only one player.
-Updated tips.
-Fixed tooltips of some abilities.
-Most units now leave a corpse. This mainly buffs Corruptor and Stalemate Tactician.

Balancing:
-Aura values of enemy offensive & defensive captains reduced.
-Removed wand of lightning shield on Item shop. Replaced by Breath of Fire.
-Reduced initial damage of Villocu's relic.
-Reduced CD of Chis's relic.
-Master Baiter: Reduced CD of Emergency Repairs.
-Top Tank Master: Increased attack range of ultimate unit.
-Ancient Artifact: Reduced CD of Defense Mechanism and Spirit Link.

Balancing:
-Now the difficulty of the game will be changing separated on 4 stages: Wave 1-6 Relax Difficulty + instant respawn. Wave 7-12 Normal Difficulty + Instant respawn. Wave 13-18 Normal Difficulty + Normal respawn. Wave 19-24 Hard Difficulty + Normal respawn. True ending (wave 25): Expert Difficulty + Hardcore (you die forever).
-Breath of Frost (Yeti): Reduced damage.
-Death & Decay (Stalemate Tactician): Adjusted % damage and cast time.
-Surplus (Investors): Changed lvl 4 & 5 lumber gain to gold & lumber.

Fixes:
-none
Improvements:
-Revamped map.
-Now when you lose your temple, you can keep playing, but the true ending will not be available.
-Removed customizations.

Balancing:
-Attribute Bonus (Yeti): Stats gain reduced on late levels.

-Fix for some models on Reforged & Classic HD not being properly implemented.
-Fix for scaling of models. Normalized everything to 1.0 scale.

-Changed name and model of Hitman to Reaper of Souls.

Balancing:
-Life Drain (Reaper of Souls): Duration Reduced. Damage increased.
-Secretary of Defense: Attack damage reduced.

Fixes:
-Fix for enemy bosses fleeing when using Keg of Destruction on themselves.
-Fix for Keg of Destruction and Robe of Flames having wrong buff description and icons.
-Fix for Collateral Damage special effect not being correct on levels 2+.
-Fix for some passive abilities like Pop-Off working on illusions.
Improvements:
-Improved tooltip of some abilities.

Balancing:
-Paladin: Healing Wave replaced for Tithe.
-Blessed Strikes (Paladin): Now it heals all allied heroes. Reduced healing.
-Divine Punishment (Paladin): Now it deals damage nearby units healed by Blessed Strikes instead of it being a % chance on hit skill.
-Purgatory Flames (Paladin): AOE decreased.
-Corrupted Mage: Frost Bolt replaced for Healing Wave.
-Complementary Creatures (Corrupted Mage): Increased stats of units and added True Strike ability.
-Monsoon (Corrupted Mage): Increased damage.
-Banish (Corrupted Mage): Increased cooldown.,

Fixes:
-Fix for Corrupted Mage being considered undead unit and only have HP regen on blight.
Improvements:
-Floating texts of areas that give gold per second updated.
-Arena start message separated by PVE or PVP.

Balancing:
-Paladin: New STR hero.
-Hitman: New AGI hero.
-Corrupted Mage: New INT hero.
-Retired Hitman: Sundering Blades replaced for Life Steal.

Fixes:
-Fix for wrong tip saying that Idols of Protection do not give XP on kill.
-Vorpal Blades: Fix for Illusions being able to do AOE damage.
-Fix for Lightning Shield tooltip not displaying level 5 data.
Improvements:
-Made tooltip of Zepellin not able to use items more visible.

Balancing:
-Building kills now grant XP. This way, less experienced players are not stuck on low levels.
-Serpent Ward (Secretary of Defense): Attack range decreased.
-Summon Tentacle (Secretary of Defense): Attack range increased to match Serpent Ward.
-Special Creeps (Waves 3, 9, 15, 21): Added mana pool. Abilities now cost mana.
-Murder By Numbers (Investors): Damage increased.
-Surplus (Investors): Gold gain decreased.
-Immolation (Master Baiter): Initial AOE increased to match attack range. Mana cost per second increased. Last level AOE reduced slightly.
-Deploy Experimental Tank (Top Tank Master): Damage increased.

Fixes:
-Fix for typo on wave 24 end reward before true ending.
-Fix for "Last Chance" Miracle not working for anyone besides player 1.

Hello!

We played your map about 4 months ago, but there was a bug I think during the last PvP arena. The last enemy or boss wave spawned while we were still fighting in the arena, and so we couldn't defend and lost. We were 3 players left.
It could be intentional (to troll the players, so they have to strategically stop fighting and die), but I'm posting here in case it wasn't.

I liked the map, it's quite original!

What exactly do you mean by this? (Not trying to be a smart ass here, I just ask because I'm the author of the map and made it from scratch, so I don't know who else to credit besides the people who started this genre of maps, which I'm already giving credit in the description)

Hello!

We played your map about 4 months ago, but there was a bug I think during the last PvP arena. The last enemy or boss wave spawned while we were still fighting in the arena, and so we couldn't defend and lost. We were 3 players left.
It could be intentional (to troll the players, so they have to strategically stop fighting and die), but I'm posting here in case it wasn't.

I liked the map, it's quite original!
I would never!!! Sadly it wasn't intentional (I like games to be as fair as possible. I think the only "unfair" thing in the map right now is the chance to get a secret hero on random, but it has a 0.01% chance to happen so I think it's cool). I think that these issues don't happen anymore, but reading your comment encouraged me to review the triggers again just to be safe.

Maybe I'm not done yet with the map, and maybe a v8.7 will happen soon :xxd:

It's a vague mention. Do some research please and put some actual names.
Also
Please use the Edit button at the bottom of your posts and add text there instead of writing one post after another of yours unless it's an important update.

Thanks for pointing out the multiposting issue; I wasn't aware of it, I'll be careful from now on with that. I deleted the multipost and merged it in one comment to avoid the rule violation. :pal:

Regarding the credits, I will search for the Hero Survival maps that I've played and took inspiration from, and then edit the description in order to credit the authors of those maps.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Thanks! Next version I release has plans to add support to use bots as players, and to fix some random crashes that I suspect are happening due to performance or too many triggers going on depending on the heroes that are picked; haven't really pinpointed exactly why they happen :hohum:.
