Potofeu's Melee Map Pack v1.0

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
Here is a collection of 25 melee maps from 2 to 12 players. Some are traditional and some are filled with triggers and surprises.
Keep in mind this pack is designed with the original Warcraft III in mind, maps are working fine on Reforged but could suffer from some issues here and there, like the scale of entities, placements or global rendering.
This pack contains no custom assets so there is no compatibility issues. A map in particular (Unnamed Isles) won't work properly with the AI because the map is built around boat usage.
Each map begins with a short and passable cinematic causing fps drops with Reforged graphics but it's fine when playing. Some maps are symetric, some aren't and some can suffer balance issues. A custom loading screen has been made for each map as well.

  • A line of trees was deleted in Tropic Thunder blocking ai pathfinding.
  • An error in "Emerald Bog" concerning recommended number of players box (3v3 to 4v4).

Siege Over Wovenbrad:
  • Global rebalancing by changing drops on creeps (more mana and low tier items).
  • Added a creep group near a gold mine in center of map.
  • Rebalanced "boss" stats (Regeneration capabilty were too high).
  • Added some trees here and there and notably in the players spawns in the city.
  • Added 8 green creeps groups near players spawns.

Agreed, a good assortment of maps and it's nice to not need to downgrade the map version just to be able to play :grin:

Also requesting to have permission to use these maps for my altered melees!

And honestly I suggest you to keep it up if you've got the time, interest and motivation! It would be awesome to see a few more Kalimdor-ish maps, same for Outland and Ashenvale Forest typa maps. Also a bigger Dalaran/Kirin Tor map.

Please remove cinematic intros as it's not customary to melee maps but more to single player ones which are story driven. You waste seconds when you are already preparing to start base building while the map loads.

Bridges is very cramped. Building space is thin as well. Battles are annoying due to the game's pathing. There are spaces between trees through which small units can pass/hide. Rush can't properly be done even if the distance is small between players because all paths are guarded by creeps.
Please read the melee mapping guides below.
Half-moon is very small. You can't really even make a surprise attack without being seen.
Jade Grove: starting space is crazily narrow. Ramps shouldn't have buildable tiles to avoid lame tower and farm blocking defenses. Overall cramped.
Leavesbrook Docks: night elf players are at a huge advantage due to trees being scarce for other factions.
Silverwraith Coast: can't zoom out too much because of the pitch white fog.

In general there's similar issues on most. Some are too altered melee to be together with the melee ones.

Simple.

How to Add a Screenshot to your Map Description


ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

I gave it 4 stars only because most of the time you aren't rewarded for Creeping (aside from gold). Also some maps are labeled as Melee in editor and other have Default balanicing. That feels a bit weird. Otherwise a lot of work went into this and some of those maps do feel quite original.

Appreciate it! I'm happy you had some fun with the pack. Maps was created with a simple thing in mind: to do something that at least respects the spirit of melee while adding a little something extra. I wanted to contribute that little stone that's been lying around in my pocket for years. :wink:
