I don't feel that any of them really "deserve" it, so I will not vote. However, only five out of the twelve original candidates being regular members is a bit wrong. Perhaps make a "User fo the Year" and a "Moderator of the Year" and solve the problems, because it never fails, it is usually mods that get it.

The point was already addressed by Pyritie. >_>

I've read through all the posts and it seems people keep supporting nominations and also suggesting other nominations on the basis that the person being nominated has 'helped' out alot around the forums. I have to say this is kind of dissapointing because I can name several users off the top of my head that are always 'helping' people and are always complete assholes when they do it. Just because you are slightly more knowledgable about something than others doesn't mean you have to be sarcastic or a stuck-up elitist when you explain something to them. I see it happen around the forums ALL THE TIME and (at the risk of sounding melodramatic) it's really quite saddening to see people not take attitude and character into consideration when they suggesting nominations or vote on already nominated users. IMO the "user of the year" should be an award saved for someone who has high character in addition to knowledge and experience.

On another note, I realize that the mods went over a list of users and ultimately decided on the best choices (and that their decision is final), however I would just like to voice my dissapointment that CRAZYRUSSIAN isn't a choice for voters. He is a greatly respected user with a friendly attitude, an incredible artist, and a credit to this site (if not only for his artistic ability alone). He is also one of the largest contributers of resources and has helped out on a multitude of projects. Not to mention he is one of the few people on this site that take requests. Infact, of the 400 or so icons he has submitted, i'd guess that like 80+% of those were requests he filled without asking for anything in return (not to mention other requests like the goblin UI he helped a user with the other day). Again, I know the decision of the mods is final in regards to the nominations, however it is really dissapointing not to see CRAZYRUSSIAN's name up there because (in my opinion) no one is more deserving of this award than him. and yes you could bring up the fact that he already got the respected user award and that he honestly probably doesn't even care about these awards anyways, but the fact is that they are two different awards and we should respect our valued members regardless of whether they care or not. Let's face it, if I started a CRAZYRUSSIAN fan club half this site would join.

Also for those who don't know who enjoy is, from what i've seen he polices alot of the crap that gets thrown around the off-topic and site discussion forums and is also an icon/skin artist. If I remember correctly, he also recently judged a contest and gave pretty accurate judging.

Haven't thrown all that out there, I'm going to vote for TriggerHappy because I see his helpful reviews and posts all over the damn place and he's always friendly to people. When I compare enjoy and TriggerHappy side-by-side I think TriggerHappy has done alot more and is probably more deserving of this award (although they are both notable users).

actually, he was nominated but since he didn't really do anything in 2010 we gave him respected user instead

To anyone posting about nominations, be sure to read this post first:

The staff has already voted internally and narrowed down the list to this number.

There is a reason why this thread came up 5 months into the new year. It is because we already had discussions about the candidates. This is not a list of the only people who deserve the UotY, it is who we narrowed it down to. ;)

We already went through this debate when we were narrowing down the people for the final selection. The problem being that often the qualities that make someone good as a candidate for the award are the same qualities that end up earning them a mod position.

That is open to opinion, for the simple fact that, some moderators are not put into position for the way they act, but for popularity. Those that are put there for said reason, normally do not have the skills or behavior for said position.

That's not relevant to the situation as they wouldn't be candidates for the award anyway.

Uhm, two of the candidates in this nomination are in lines with the subject. Which is why I do not find it right that they have the chance for "User of the Year". Because there are many more worthy members in this site that deserve it above and beyond all three of them.

I can assure you that all 3 of those members put a lot of work and time into the site and are capable of being worthy of the award.

As I've said, we've already been through the "too many mods" debate when narrowing it down and decided on giving out the award (as a single user of the year award and not one's for specific people) this way for a multitude of reasons.

I said there are many more that are far more worthy than they.

Mid, the bottom line is that the staff polls say we on the staff(or the majority of us) disagree.

User of the Year is pretty much Opinion based.
Your opinion differs from that of the staff as a whole, which I'm sorry for, but the mods/admins get the say in this.

Vote for one of the three or don't.
These are the only three there will be.

I'm pretty much certain of that.
Unless the entire Staff would like to hold two more two week long polls that include the users YOU want.

:/

Not trying to be rude at all here, just stating that there's pretty much no point in arguing your point further.

Why is there not a short biography and summary of what they have done so that the average user can vote more easily? I've seen all names but neither tells me of great deeds. Probably simply because I don't know what they did.

Well, I'd give a summary of what <1 of the candidates> has done...but that wouldn't be fair to the other two candidates...
I don't honestly know what they've done (as I don't hang out in their sections), so I won't glorify one user and make the rest look bad.

If somebody knows the full extent as to what all three have done, then feel free to post it.

the logical reasoning behind not having a resume is simple. if the only way the normal users can determine the worthiness of a person is through a resume, it can mean 2 things. First, that the person hasnt done enough to be well known for their good deeds in which case, he/she doesnt deserve the vote. Or second, the user voting has not been around here for long or has not been around consistently to know who is more worthy or not and therefore, whatever opinion they might have is empty and meaningless and as well as their vote.

about the candidates themselves. as stated in the first post, the mods did not just pull out these three names out of a hat nor did we have a drinking contest to see who is the most awesome. this topic has been going on for few months in the mod lobby and with it, we've had multiple polls and threads to discuss the merits of each nominee. we took in to account their behaviour(if they fit as a reasonable role model), their general attitude as well as what they have contributed along the year. the three you see are there because they were deemed most worthy, not because they were the coolest or not because we have this mod conspiracy to dominate everything on the site.

if you deem someone to be worthy, if you find none of them worthy, dont vote.

I never doubted this was thought-through. I have however never heard of a nominee being nominated without an explaination to why. Take the Nobel Prize for instance. You know that Liu Xiaobo won the peace prize right? Well I had never heard his name before and had no idea who he was, but because they explained why he was nominated I now know.

Personally for me, I think TriggerHappy had been the most effective moderator, especially in off-topic forum.
He also dealt things seriously with mature considerations.
His greatest contribution is his "BlizzVault" site, for the hive chat quotes.
Although I find he lacks humor.

While for Dr Super Good, he's been helping a lot of our members but he does not have an up to standard patience, constantly asking him simple questions will get him frustrated like the day before yesterday. I asked him about the sc2 data editor, as I'm new to it and our forum doesn't have much useful tutorials, I kept asking questions that are simple for him, getting him frustrated and he went off to sleep.
Also, he lacks humor.
However, I find his patience lesser than TriggerHappy.

While for enjoy, she's been contributing to the site in many ways, like icons.
She deals things effectively, especially in the hive chat room, she bans and kicks people who broke rules of the chat.
She have a sense of humor but when it comes to serious business, she's very serious.
However, I find her contribution lesser than TriggerHappy.

This is my "review" of the moderators in 2010.
This is why I voted for TriggerHappy.

Guys Maker, Pharoh_ and few others was nominated, but TH, DSG (who wasn't mod back then), and Enjoy got most votes.
Also dude who actually win in poll was Pyramidhe@d but he didn't wanted award.
There are few other guys like Red Shift, and CRAZYRUSSIAN who was nominated but we decided to give them "Respect user award" instead, cuz they uploaded (and will continue to upload) epic resources.
So point is, you don't know whole story, don't post things like that (if you want to know more or reasons why/how/where... send message to staff or just bother admins in admin contact forum), there are 3 candidates, pick 1 or no one.

I was just thinking, how about just stopping this old tradition because it is not working anymore and instead:
UOTYA: user only nominated and voted by mods
MOTYA: mod only nominated and voted by users
because this was not the most successful award, it was more like pain than voting to me since we had to do it on many rounds.

Enjoy is a 'she', not a 'he'.
Also, yeah, CRAZYRUSSIAN should really be a choice next year. :)

he or a she does not matter, all are equally qualified on this site
Crazyrussian didn't do anything that great since 1-1-2011 and now about half 2011 is already gone, so don't think so. (maybe he submitted icons, but we also have other users who do so)

But has he even done anything this year so far?

Yeah. He took on quite a lot of requests, including a UI, and made about 50 icons or so. Basically he's the most helpful artist around. :)

Raven0 referred to enjoy as a male. I had to correct him.

Next time I request a summary on what the users have done so this doesn't feel like a blind vote.

It's not that they are the most invisible users around the site. Please, just use the search engine and seek up your own story about them. I know them all fairly well (due to my raising activity last year) so I know a lot of what they did and not did.

And yes I'm sick of these "summary please" so blame me for my evil attitude because I woke up on the wrong side today.
