Story

3.png

"After unleashing the Voidstorm upon Azeroth, Xal’atath led her followers to the Dragonblight in Northrend, gathering at the bones of Galakrond to siphon what remained of the ancient dragon’s power Her ritual was interrupted by the bronze dragon Chronormu, who attempted to stop her using her temporal discombobulator device. Their powers collided, but Chronormu's device somehow failed, and both Chronormu and Xal’atath were violently warped through time."

Chromie

Chromie-Portrait.jpg

Chromie - Keeper of Time
Sand Blast: Blasts enemies with a wave of sand, causing damage to land units in a cone and leaving behind a stationary temporal clone of Chromie that will also cast Sand Blast whenever she does.
Time Warp: Quickens time, causing Chromie to attack faster and empower her attacks to deal additional damage and have a splashing effect.
Temporal Trap: Summons a temporal trap that stuns enemy land units around it. The temporal trap activates when an enemy land unit approaches and destroys all other temporal traps in its area of effect.
Slowing Sands: Calls forth a vortex of shifting time sands, any unit or building that stands in it will receive damage every second.
Xal'atath

Xalatath-Portrait.jpg

Xal'atath - Priestess of the Void
Dark Ascension: Increases the attack rate of a target unit but drains hit points per second. Each succesful attack while under this effect restores hit points.
Shadow Apparition: Creates a shadowy replica of a target unit, the replica will deal a percentage of its original copy's damage.
Dominate Mind: Takes control of a target enemy unit for 12 seconds.
Umbral Gate: Xal'atath fully recovers her health and mana then teleports the player's nearby units, including Xal'atath, to a friendly ground unit or structure.

Lana'thel

Character-Lanathel.png

Lana'thel - Master Swordsman
Whirlwind: Strikes with a whirling force at the ground, dealing damage to and slowing the movement speed and attack rate of nearby enemy land units by 25%.
Fire Shield: Protects the Hero with a fiery barrier, causing damage to nearby enemy land units.
Defensive Stance: Orders nearby friendly units to assume a defensive stance, increasing their armor for 30 seconds.
Retaliation: Gives a chance to dodge an attack and a chance to deal 4 times normal damage for 20 seconds.

Valanar - Magister
Mana Burn: Sends a bolt of negative energy that burns points of a target enemy unit's mana. The mana combusts, dealing damage equal to the amount of mana burned.
Cyclone: Tosses a target non-mechanical enemy unit into the air, rendering it unable to move, attack or cast spells, and stopping others from attacking or casting on it.
Taldaram

Keleseth-Portrait.jpg

Taldaram - Magister
Rain of Fire: Calls down waves of fire that damage units in an area. Each wave deals initial damage and additional damage per second for a duration.

A nice co-op map with both graphics modes available as well as possibility to play on a pre-Reforged patch. Approved. If you want more reviews, you should participate in the The Grand Review Exchange! R U L E S Site Rules Map Submission Rules M A...
Co-op campaign? But I may sound silly, but from what I saw in screenshots, it can be played alone, right? Just by controlling both players at the same time, right, @Zenonoth?
You've an option to choose as singleplayer or co-op if you choose co-op, your partner will play the other hero, drops, rescued units, etc.. will be divided between you too, there are also 2xDifficulties + Time-mode challenge, much more will be added as time progresses.

Would be cool if there was a mode for 5 players, with other players controlling the three supporting heroes. There's not many campaigns for more than 2 players.
Mode selection at the start should be quicker with no delay, instead for waiting for each button to appear.

The thing is, 2 other heroes are unlocked at a later part of chapter 1.

That should be fine I think, there are some maps where people need to wait some time to play, as long as it's not at the end. But I understand it might be a lot of changes to add more players in triggers, that was just an idea :infl_thumbs_up:

I personally don't quite understand why elves hero are given magic immunity, as it prevents me from using

Xal'atath skills to heal him.
This has been a completely reasonable/legetimate complaint I made it so for a purpose when I release the achievement version of this campaign, but if many complaints about this specific thing is raised I'll gladly remove spell immunity.

I won't say too much, since this is only the first chapter of the co-op campaign, yet still - I liked this story already.
It's funny,
especially when looking at poor Chromie's SD face, but dialogues between characters, thanks to AI voicelining, sound very theatrical. I don't know what samples you have used for Xal'atath, but she sounds like she wants to do evil "MUHAHAHAHA" laugh after each phrase - such passive-aggressiveness she emits. I swear that in TWW I heard more plausible voicelines from her, or during BFA and Legion.
But that's my quirk.
Voicelining for blood elf magisters are theatracal at best - they say things like they are on scene, not in the middle of the battlefield in frozen wastelands across nowhere.
But enough for voicelining - I know that current TTS models are limited in terms of such things.

In terms of gameplay, I can only join @puck's question about Magister's magical immunity - why? And, maybe due to playing solo, I noticed that those controlled magisters still belonged to AI players, so they casted their spells on their own, constantly tried to return to their bases, and Taldaram's "Rain of Fire" was deadly mostly towards ME, not undead enemies.
One question - what will happen if the ghouls that harass Valanar's base destroy all those buildings, including the Town Hall? Their harrass prevented to fully explore the map at some time.

In result, it's hard to say into what direction this story will develop: in good or bad ways, so maybe in the future I will change my rating.
By now, I will place 5/5 only for smooth gameplay experience on normal, usage of semi-native "controllable AI" players, and overall atmosphere.

And for Chromie's phrases and face, of course, in SD.

Just saw your playthrough @The Nightmare Book , I see you played the SD version meant for old wc3 (1.26) in reforged, My modeled chromie looks horrible I know xD. I can clearly see the problems and what I'll improve in future versions:-
  • I'll remove spell immunity and maybe give them regeneration auras
  • I'll remove their AI attitude (Of the magisters and their forces)

If the ghouls destroy Valanar's base you fail the mission but after destroying the purple base they'll despawn.

BTW you were like an inch closer to unlocking/unraveling the secret puzzle I placed. Ty for your feedback. Also linked your playthrough vid to the thread.

EDIT: Another thing, I totally respect/admire how you used Xal'atath's temporary mind control spell to brain control the banshee and use her to possess the abomination, I myself didn't anticipate/arrange it to be so, really really clever move. I won't change it since it's already a boss move.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Thanks for your making!
Additionally, can this SD version be released on Chinese KK platform?

This is a Warcraft III gaming platform in China, primarily focused on version 1.27 RPG maps.
Some of the campaigns or RPG maps on it are paid, but rest assured, I will definitely share your work on it for free.
Thanks for your making.

Times Change... Am I right that dreadlords have stolen our heroines at the end of chapter 3?.. Oops, spoiler!

While I cannot remember what I wanted to say about the second chapter, I can swear that the third chapter is way too punishing for being slow at first, for a third of it.
Attacks of the First Legion are barely salvageable if you want to bite much and take side quests for unit buffs.
And poor footman somehow managed to survive Lich King's wrath and remain in front of closed gates :D

I like this usage of Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty's mission mechanic with Laser Drill. I like Swann in Co-op, so doing powerful OMMMM into the desired enemy or gate is satisfying to watch.
Although I would enjoy seeing if its damage actually increases per time it drills into not-gate unit, you can utilize Damage Engine for that, if you want to :)

Lich King boss fight felt somewhat meh.
Dodging stuff is cool, but I think that Anguished Souls part is way too underwhelming. I see a reason why you included it to utilize Xal'atath's Mind Control, but it felt perhaps too lengthy. And King Terenas part - well, Terenas did clearly soloed him under Xal's buff.
Knaifu supremacy, hint-hint?

Anub'arak's death in 1vs1 combat to Magnataur, in my case, was hilarious to watch.

The story is still enjoyable, and I cannot wait to see where you lead our heroines.
Hell, you even reminded me about my own Chromie Time Origins campaign, and I think that I can do something for it :D
Thanks for the inspiration :)

Keep it going, @Zenonoth!

- Added videos! Honored you enjoyed it..

- "Times Change... Am I right that dreadlords have stolen our heroines at the end of chapter 3?.. Oops, spoiler!" Yup, read right into it!

- Will fix the footman bug issue!

- Lich King on hard mode is a bit tough with Terenas, you can also mind control --> lead wisps into Terenas' marker to buff him.

- You missed some secrets/easter eggs.

- Awesome gameplay though, watch it all!

What is this lol? For starters, this is not a campaign. You cannot play it as a custom campaign, you have to play it from the normal custom games menu, one map at a time.

Second, what even is this? I am not familiar with WoW lore, but this is confusing as hell. Who are these characters? Where are they from? We needed some sort of explanation at the start about what is going on.

Gameplay-wise, why are the hotkeys for spells B and W? They should be Q, W, E, and so on. The Blood Elf Magister also has Frost Nova on the N hotkey, which is just terrible. Also, I chose hard difficulty and got destroyed by the undead waves. They are super strong, while my heroes are very weak.

I also tried to explore and go south, but there seems to be some kind of invisible wall that forces your units to go back. However, the Void Priestess is not affected by it and can move freely, while other heroes and units cannot. But if you spam-click them forward, you can actually get past the wall. This is really bizarre. I assume it is meant to stop the player from exploring the map while undead waves are still spawning, but why implement it like this? It should just be a proper invisible wall that completely blocks movement. Even then, it still looks bad.

Every time a sorceress casts Slow, she says the “What’s your hurry?” line, which gets very annoying.

Finally, I got defeated because Valanar’s base was destroyed by me, but that was not mentioned in the main quest log (F9). I mean, it was at first, but after I defended it, the quest was marked as completed. So why was I defeated later when that objective had already been completed?

On top of that, some of the buildings drop tomes, so I destroyed them thinking it was intended. After doing that, I got defeated. Great logic, what can I say.

Yeah, that is where I gave up. Too many frustrating issues. This feels like a beta of a beta version of a campaign that is not even a proper campaign.

5) Finally, I got defeated because Valanar’s base was destroyed by me, but that was not mentioned in the main quest log (F9).

1-I mentioned above @Blasterixx but you didn't seem to check:-
The campaign is intended to be posted into several versions:

A Co-Op version (Posted in the form of maps that you can play via custom game, inspired by co-op missions in red alert 3, and TheSpoon's 2P campaign)
■ It still has a singleplayer mode
■ The campaign/aka: .w3n version will be posted when all maps are posted and will be compiled in a single .w3n file
■ There'll be a version with QWERTY Hotkeys but the version posted so far is made so because of how people were previously accustomed to already made WC3 hotkeys, so I'll post it as a separate version.
■ As for the undead waves, I never found someone complain about them in hard mode so far, will retest.

2-There's a video trailer I posted that explains all + provides context (As for WoW lore I can't help with that, but there are other campaigns on this site with WoW lore)

3-Thanks for feedback, didn't receive any complaint about this bug, will fix promptly

4-You can disable it via game dialog sound

5-Thanks for finding this bug will fix.

So, first off I got a general confession to make.

I am a super long-time lurker on Hive, and played somewhere between 100-150 custom campaigns.
Generally, I only play single player content, so I had my doubts with this one. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised once I got into it.

I had a great share of issues initially, because I did not see maps were w3x and not w3n. So that caused some issues. However, I can’t really let that influence my review, as it comes down to me not reading the description. So that aside.

The story of Chromie had me enticed and I do love that you seem to have caught the sweet spot between something original flavored with the "what if" twisting of timelines that Caverns of Time brought us in WoW. So good job at that. It was nice to see this mixture of known concepts to bring up an original storyline.

The map design was overall good and you took your time to place several nice scenery features that created a good ambient feeling to the maps overall.

On act2 I did find that Chromes movement on the map seemed limited. I never found a passage way to the second gold mine as all obstructions were indestructible.

I do miss the "carry over of items" (and yes, I know it´s coming, but I still miss it).

I also very much liked the variety of play. All 3 maps so far had great variation, and they weren’t just "3x build a base and trash the opponent".

At the end of it, I believe a gaming experience can be deemed good or bad, based on how you feel, when the last chapter is over. Did you urge for more or were you glad it was finally over?

On that note: When is the next chapter coming?

Story (so far) 4/5

Map: 4/5

gameplay variation 5/5
