Techtree Contest

[Gilles]

Which theme would you like to see for the next Techtree Contest?
I've made it multiple choice so that you can vote for the theme, and additional rules, like no imports, size limit, or no restrictions. Please choose one theme, and one additional rule.

A few explanations:

Naga: Create a new Naga race. The one from wc3 was unfinished.
Medieval (which I spelled wrong): No mythical creatures, which includes things like elves and orcs.
Magic Based: My own idea. A race devoted to magic. No melee or ranged attacks, just pure magic.
File Size: Up for debate. Probably around 2mb.

ugh, i dont like the fact that everyone's gonna do the same race. but w/e, i'll choose... dwarven, althought i wouldve liked to have made a medieval army with some magic.

Looks like it's going to be a creep race with a filesize limit of 1MB. I don't see any reason to extend the poll further; it's pretty clear what the majorities are here.

Why is Creep race even on the list? Creep Rebellion has already been made.

I thought about that, but Creep Rebellion is all the creeps. This theme consists of one of the WC3 creep races. The contestant is allowed to choose which race they want to make.

1mb seems a tad small, since the creeps dont have too many animated buildings, and alot of them use the same unit model, just with different tintings/scaling.

im going with creeps aswell. but i agree with ghost, 1 mb is alittle small. should be abit larger. When is this contest going to start? more or less.

giles said the medieval theme must have no magic.
edit: specifically mythical creatures, so it really isnt that fantastical since there arent any dwarves/elves etc.

Medieval is a non-magic, non-mythical medieval techtree, such as footmans, archers, knights, spearman etc. Stuff you'd find in a real medieval army, so no mages, dwarves, elves or mages.

Medieval Fantasy, is all that and fantasy stuff. thats the theme i really want, so people can choose, oh i want to do elves, or, oh, i want to do dwarves, instead of being forced to do a single race.

I think that'd be a tad bit to much like the regular wc3 races, to be honest.

It is supposed to be balanced and work as a fifth ladder race, not resemble one.

It seems as though Creep race is winning anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

so medevil would basically be just humans. that would be a lame contest. You shouldnt do only one race. you would probably only get one entry. creeps is obviously the best option because there are alot of creep races to choose from, meaning alot more entries.

Hrmm, it seems unlikely but if the dwarves got chosen as the theme, i might finish my Mjolnir morphing tank for the dwarves

ok, so in creeps we can have:
Nerubian
Furbolg
Satyr
Gnolls
Bandits(?)
Dragons
Dranei (wc3)
Demons

But you cant have several of the more popular races, like dwarves, or elves. you cant even make up your own race. in my case i would like to do dwarves or an alternate medieval/arcane human race.

Why dont we just make the theme warcraft 3. meaning that if it has units in wc3 then you could do it. this would basically cover all the themes in this poll, statisfying everyone. Or better yet just simply have no theme, so then everyone can do basically what ever they like. this way you would probably get a lot more entries. Just my opinion.

Answer to Ghost765: Well, the majority has spoken. And what you want or not does not really matter. Btw, the list of availiable creep races is longer than the one you wrote, but whatever.

ya some of those might be tough to do because they only have a couple of units and since there is going to be a size limit. but im sure ppl could be creative enough to figure something out.

Basemap? how big it should be? Almean the size of the map effects the size limit.

Could someone mush two types of creeps together? Like combining, say, the harpy, centaur, and razormane to form "The Savage Alliance"? Or would you have to choose just one type of creep?

that would definatly be a better idea, cobra. other wise if you were doing like the furbolgs for example you would basically have to use the same 3 models like 4 times each. it would be pretty boring races.

Anything, as long as it is based off the WC3 creeps. You can pick one, two, three, etc. or all of them.

I think it would be cool to see someone create an interesting race out of just the models of creeps given, it would need a great deal of thought and creativity because mixing races maybe necessary for complete races. Also the more races in one race if used correctly would be quite interesting.

It's not going to be no imports. I know it would take creativity, but I know what I would end up seeing, and I wouldn't like it. I'd end up seeing kobolds being used as goblins or demons and tinted footmen as undead soldiers. I'd really rather not see that.

however i like the idea of it being an open theme, where you could choose any race, i agree that more people would submit and it would make it more interesting to judge

Is supposed to be a full race, or more a partial race like campaign naga or blood elf?

uh... trying to think of loopholes. dwarves arent creep correct? bandits keep on coming to mind. i got it, goblins.

the tech tree should consist of
-farm type building
-primary barraks type building with 3 trainable units and 1 upgrade for each unit
-an altar
-advance barraks with another 3 trainable units and 1 upgrade for each unit
-tech tree hall with 2 offensive and 2 defensive upgrades (to level 3)
-main building where workers are trained and 1 misc upgrade
-defence tower
-<insert building here>

but 1 question...
is pandaren a creep?

I don't think there are enough Panda models. I tried to use races I thought were conceivable.

The contest will start early in March most likely. Be patient, I don't want too many contest going on right now.
