Storm Drop


Storm Drop is a 1v1 strategy game. Players start with a command center and a powerful hero, using unique mechanics of the map to summon troops and buildings to fight each other. The player who destroys their opponent's command center first, win the game.

Requisition Point :​

The main resource of the game. Requisition Point automatically generated by the heroes, and each hero can carry up to 3 requisition points by default. Requisition points can be spent to summon units, deploy buildings, or acquire items.

Drop Cabin :​

In storm drop, you play a commander that can call down troops from the above. The main force you recruited are in the drop cabin out from the sky and waiting for your call, you can deploy them to the battlefield by spending requisition points.

Neutral Camps :​

Killing neutral units is the major way to claim resources in storm drop. Each neutral camp contains one or more neutral units, by killing them, you can harvest golds, hero experience, random items, and have a chance to get additional requisition points or drop pods. The neutral camps are respawnable, they can never be truly "Mined-out."

Operating Sphere :​

After you eliminate a neutral camp, an Ironsand Sage will visit you and offer one of three operations. Some of operations can modify one or more units' characteristics, some can give you certain kind of resources, and some can spawn units directly.

Pyromancer :​

Intelligence Hero, adept at casting fire spells. Commands a squadron that contains wizards and sorceress. Pyromancer's troops are thirst for mana, generally, the more mana they have the better performance they are in battle.

Lich King :​

Strength Hero, adept at blood spells and necrotic spells. Commands an army of undying creatures. When you choose Lich King as your hero, you can access a special resource ── Bone. Whenever Lich King sacrifices a unit, you get 1 bone, which can be used to deploy some powerful drop pods or use on certain abilities.

Blademaster :​

Agility Hero, adept at swordsmanship and can summon warriors' spirits from ancestral weapons to fight your opponent. Unlike other heroes, Blademaster's drop cabin contains no creature, instead his drop cabin gives him ancestral weapons. He can summon units by consuming durability of those weapons.

Engineer :​

Intelligence Hero, adept at engineering. Lead a crew consists of engineers, scientists, and machines. When you choose Engineer as your hero, you can access a special resource ── Invention Point. You get Invention Points whenever summon machinists. Invention Points can unlock certain technologies. Your machinists can also bring certain benefits to ally vehicles by crewing them.

Diabolist :​

Strength Hero, adept at using demonic power to afflicts enemies. Can summon demons from the hell to fight for you. Diabolist seeks power at any cost, some of his most powerful units or weapons even requires you to sacrifice your allies, that having been said, most of those bargains are still good.

Agility Hero, adept at archery. Commands a range-attack specialized squadron. Priestess of the Moon is a cunning warrior and healing master, she can heal her allies by many different ways and can also using lumber as secondary resource to upgrade her troops.

- Rune of Shredder: Replace with Rune of Blood Guard, which summons Blood Guard. Blood Guard is a medium melee unit with Taunt, Infuse Malevolence, and Vengeful Cleaves.
- Rune of Shade: Replace with Rune of Pterosaur, which summons a Pterosaur. Pterosaur is Maneuverable scout unit. Can cast Primal Sense to reveal enemies.

- Efreet: Collision Size increase to 48 from 16.
- Lamp God's Effigy: Now can train new unit: Djinn.
- Djinn: Supporting spellcaster. Can initially cast Lightning Bolt. Can also learn Hysteresis Shell.

- Hero:
- Diabolist - Destruction Wave: The maximum distance of burning path reduced 160 decimeters. The burning path now cover the position of Diabolist.
- Engineer - Plasma Beam: Mana cost increase to 95 from 80.
- Engineer - Chain Harpoon: Mana cost increase to 80 from 65.
  • Visual Effect:
- Update the loading screen.
- Update the map preview icon.
- Update visual effect of the requisition progress bar.
- Update the icon of Magic Defense.
- Update visual effect of the Silence ability.
- Update visual effect of Engineer's Anti-magic Shield item ability.
- Now, if a drop pod has multiple keywords, it displays an indicator for those keywords.
  • Bug Fixed:

Just came out of a three game session with a friend.
We both play casually and had overall a lot of fun.

I won't get too into balance and such with the map being so young - but I felt it held up really nicely. One matchup was DK v Tinker which was very hard. The mechanical units denied nuking/Skeleton spawning to fuel the frontline DK, and ultimately ended in a pretty one-sided lategame affair.

I played Night Elves, Undead and Orc and enjoyed the nuance and differences. For players such as us the small scale, micro-focused and tempo directed gameplay suited nicely. The complexity and depth gradually rises over the course of the game which allows for meaningful mid-game strategizing.

On this subject: The command centers with their different bonuses are one such meaningful decision. The different abilities and bonuses are interesting and diverse. The human bonus of the passive income generation really suited the Orc playstyle - being heavily invested (at least more so) into self-serving unit production than the other races I tested.

The map itself was fine. It looked good, had distinct areas and felt real. The camps were a bit lacking, as even the strongest Revenant fell quite easily. By the third game the high value targets were eaten quick, as we grew more comfortable in snowballing the early game army into a mid-game grip.

The drop mechanic at the centre of this experience brought both joy and slight frustration, as such is the nature of RNG. And I wouldn't want it any other way. The Drop pools seems quite small so far, and as Orc particularly juggling the different weapons with the largely less useful regenerative abilities became quite APM intensive for a somewhat small gain.

All in all; a real good time. I hope to see more races, more maps of this game mode and perhaps a 1v1v1 or 1v1v1v1 game mode in the future? I think a team-oriented experience COULD work, but I wouldn't stand in line to play it.

BUG?: Also, the Death Knight has a kill-stopper as a passive to his ultimate. This in conjuction with rapid regeneration leaves him in a state of literal undead. As in cannot be truly killed. Something to look into?

The passive effect of Death Knight's ultimate is similar to SC2 Alarak's Soul Absorption ability, which steals life from nearby units you control to heal the hero when that hero approaching death. Hence, he is immortal for as long as he controls at least one unit nearby him. I'm intentionally make him very hard to kill after level 6 as he is a tank hero. That effect has some weakness as it's mandatory, especially hard to against to healing reduction effect (The opponent might force the Death Knight to sacrifice his own army in a sort time by focus fire on him.) I'm thinking about adding more healing reduction effect into the map since there are only orc hero has healing reduction effect for now (Orb of Fire). Maybe add some units that has healing reduction ability or add a new operation that can give units ability to reduce healing effectiveness.

No problems - as I said I enjoyed it very much.
The 4/5 rating is to leave room for improvement as it is still a very early version of the map.
I checked out your other map, Spring Liquidation, on the workshop yesterday and intend to give that a try. Seems like a good time.

For clarity I'm attaching a link to a video of the invincibility of the DK.
I'm aware of his ability to consume nearby friendly targets to heal - and it is a fun mechanic. Killing his army by attacking him directly is effective.

Thanks for recording this. I didn't expect his ult can sacrifice wall of thorns. :xxd: I'll fix that in next patch.

Here is the mechanic breakdown: The thorns wall have 40 life, and your hero has level 1 dark pact so he can restores 40 life for each time he sacrifices a thorn. But the blademaster has a level 1 Orb of Fire that can give a debuff to your hero which reduces 66% of his healing effect. Hence, your hero restores 40*(100%-66%) = 13.2 life for each time he sacrifice a thorn. (Here is the reason his life jump back to 14 every time he nears the death) I'll restrict ult's legal target on non-ward unit to fix this problem in next patch.

On the video 1:00 place, the hero casts Champion of the Death to summon a Skeletal Champion, immediately after that, the hero near to death, so he sacrifice that Skeletal Champion (I see the Final Reckoning ability triggers) , and because Skeletal Champions are benefit from Disease Cloud so it leaves a toxic cloud on battlefield.


I checked out your other map, Spring Liquidation, on the workshop yesterday and intend to give that a try. Seems like a good time.

I recommend run Spring Liquidation on 1.31 or 1.32, it seems broken on 1.35 and later version. After v1.35 the map has an UI issue that is very hard to fix.

The map took 30 minutes of my attention, it was a very interesting and new gaming experience. The work with the frames is done flawlessly. Unfortunately, this is not my genre of maps, which I like. Controlling more than one unit is still difficult. But this does not make the map bad, I recommend that everyone familiarize themselves with this project!

I tried this map with the new 1.25a version. I like how you use base game stuffs and customize it in a way similar to quality of life improvements. Core mechanics are very creative and each hero even has their own different gameplay. Overall I had a lot of fun playing this and I enjoyed it very much. Great job in making this map. :thumbs_up:
