Welcome to the thrilling story of a man who, despite all his bad luck and losses, pulls through and defeats the ultimate evil.

This is the first part of a series of cinematics(at the time of this submission there are three).

This is my first real cinematic and I hope you enjoy watching it, as I enjoyed making it.

- Camera is normally very still; move it around a bit more, keeps it more interesting.
- Lots of moments of boredom, where nothing is being moved foreword. Not helped by predictable plot/lines in places.

However, overall this is pretty good - you definately have potential. Work on making stuff more polished (particularly with move orders - do them individually for best results). You had some nice pieces of cinematic work in here.

anyways i loled^^ even tho i did not exactly know why

- the terrain is to flat n dull for my taste
- camerawork could be improved
- units always stand in a bunch -> i lost the overall view of the scene sometimes
(for example: the bloodelfgeneraldude (i dont remember his name) had this strang color around his feet but u barely saw it through the knights n houses 'n all in a sudden he was somewhere else
--> you should work with special effects more often

i loled when they get their weapons 'n waited for the explaination of their change in appearance
when he said he got a sword that made his skin green i lol'd again ^^ what an explaination is that^^

at the end music starts (i lol'd again) why dont u use music in the rest of the story?

and i think we all agree: ghosts should not have shadows ^^

anyway;
lot's of text, lacks of terraining/doodads and special effects;
=> but it was ok overall :D

Thank you all. These have been some helpful comments. Be sure to check out the 2nd and 3rd part of this cinematic, where you will see I have improved(a bit :)). Anyways I will take all these suggestions into account and once again Thank you all!

I noticed that a few of you, who are not familiar with the Sect of the Holy Mother, stop watching it after the first part. Id like to say that the first part of the Sect of the Holy Mother was made as my very first cinematic and, although it has a story related meaning to the other parts, it is my least well done.

I would advise you to at least watch part II which shows huge improvement, and any later part which also shows more improvement. So please, dont give up after the first part.

Greetings. I am going to use a sketch of the new Cinematic reviewing sheet, so here it goes.

Rui's Review
[+]Bugs & Otherwise Good: I found no bugs, except a certain thing: when the attack on the village begins (while the Captain is there), there's a delay. Maybe it should have been fixed.
[+]Special Effects: I didn't see any big effects, but the ones used certainly fit well.
[+]Imported Material: The Imported material used was fitting. Although I don't think the music was all that necessary, it seems to be low sized so it's nothing to get concerned about.
[+/-]Camera: The camera was stagnant most of the time, there was not much action about it, but it was decently used.
[+/-]Music/Sound: The new Human track that came with the Frozen Throne played for a while, I guess it was intentional. It combined well with the images of the mountains, although I don't think it was needed at the start.
As for the other music, I guess it was OK. I don't really understand why you played "DarkAgents" in that conversation between Nikola and the other guy.
[+/-]Story & Originality: Another Human village or kingdom that gets attacked by Undead. The usual: tiresome and stuffy.
The Runesmith, however, was a good addition. About the enchantment... I found it weird, turning a Human into a different race... well, I guess the Runesmith and the Serpent give you the Yellow note here. That and the... different ending.
[+/-]Terrain: The terrain was OK. Nothing special, I must admit, but it contained the essential for the story.
Some relevant notes: weird ground texture variation, no elevation at all.
[-]Screenplay: I'll be honest, I didn't like the screenplay much. It had grammatical bugs to start with, and some speeches were too short and lasted too long. It sounded too traditional and it was boring.


This cinematic is nothing too good, compared to works such as Cult of the Damned and Shipwrecked, but it is not low quality either.
My rating for this resource is 11/20, approximately 3 (Useful).

Nice, you've started the series :)

Thanks for the review. This grade was expected, the map was my first, but when I return from my vacation I'll be fixing all the grammar and spelling errors, as well as improving camera work for pats 1-3. Anyway I hope you finish viewing all the cinematics.

My review of this cinematic:

Terrain/Trees [+]
Actually trees were custom so that's good, and terrain was OK, at least I think so, I'm not great on rating that...

The story [+]
Story was good, however, some other people uses this kind of idea that hey, it's the return of the undead :)xxd:), but I don't still call it bad idea.

Humor [+]
You put some humor into this cinematic, and I actually liked it. Example the Runesmith meeting. Lol how he didn't remember that he talked about Coco? And about the enchantements, they were kinda funny.

Voice acting [+/-]
I was amazed that there was no voice acting, because I watched your The Lone Panther -cinematic and there everything was voice acted, I wonder is there voice acting on your other cinematics (not listed above).

Custom models, skins and etc... [-]
Now I was really amazed, because you used alot custom stuff on your The Lone Panther -cinematic, and on this I didn't see anything custom at all. Expect the skins of the 3 "heroes" when they got the enchanted weapons. And cinematics are not as much enjoyable as if there is custom models and etc, than if there ain't nothing. I wonder is on the other cinematics custom models and stuff, not listed above.

Overall 4/5, Recommend. (Voted for your cinematic.)

Every new Sect of the Holy Mother is better and better and later you can see a lot of custom models/skins used.

Even though the first part might not be as good as the Lone Panther please don't stop watching the Sect of the Holy Mother. I am sure you will come to like it in no time as soon as you get to know the characters and the story.

Yes, I liked this after all, so why I should stop watching the other parts? I dl now the 2nd one. :cool: I believe you that every new is better and better. :thumbs_up: I watch and review all your cinematics.

When i looked through the cinematic i felt, and im sorry to have to say this, but:

1. The storyline is stolen form Dungeon Siege, the first one. I cant buy the concept of a mere farmer going off or eaven volunteering to go on a mission to risk life and limb to go to church on a mission that a regiment of proffecional warriors dident return from, the imagination in the makeing of this cinematic map is compleatly off.

2. Nikola a bad conversion of the possible names of the Blademaster hero in Warcraft III Nikoro.

3. I felt like you just filled the cinematic with a bunch of meaningless dialogs just meant to kill the viewers time.

4. The effort you put into the models was just... OMG. I mean a human turning into a Orc with a lame exuse like that..?

The Runesmith cursed me... What the, ill just ignore it and go to save the day.

Alllso you need to work on your characters.

5. The special effects in this cinematic wasent special, it felt like something you slapped together to publish the map sooner.

I am a very hard critic, and this is what i think of the cinematic.

Though you did a nice job on the freeze frame, something that i can learn from. That and the ghost was the only thing that wowed me in this cinematic.

I agree on the statement that the terrain is realy plain.

Edit: I will watch the rest of these, and comment on everything.

Edit 2: I see that you added custom oak trees into your map, wich is a plus, but you added to much of them, more than you see in the cinematic. And the map needs, may not cause lagg, but is something i woundent accept in one of my maps.

I made this map as my first so I don't expect it to get a high rating. For a first I am proud of it and I really don't care who thinks what about it because, as I was advised, I won't do a revamp of it in order to show my roots, or better put, the place where I started from.

Still, I thank you for watching the Sect of the Holy Mother.

Still you have to admit to why would a farmer go on a mission like that, and suddenly learn how to use Wind Walk..? And i'd allso like to add that:

1. You made a clever solution to prevent the three farmers from getting mixed up, and prevented confusion nicely.

2. Maybie you should have added if in future maps you tell how he learned these abilities and was able to use them flawlessly? Prevents people from being confused and wondering WTF how did he know how to do that?

I made this map as my first so I don't expect it to get a high rating. For a first I am proud of it and I really don't care who thinks what about it because, as I was advised, I won't do a revamp of it in order to show my roots, or better put, the place where I started from.

I dident know this was your first map. And then i think you should be proud of it.

And im a hard critic and i belive in makeing people grow by makeing them see the negative and positive sides in thier work.

I wouldent expect anything less on my work.

I saw this cinematic and it was long, for a change, than the usual cinematic which are small. I noticed the following things about the cinematic:
1.....the women that comes in the beginning appeared to be coming from the forests on right side instead of the road. also she did not appear to be running , as according to the story. When i saw the cinematic again then she appeared to come from the left side forests. I was confused with this so i watched it again by exiting the game at this point. This time she appeared to be coming from the road. what's with the directions? Also she did not stop while saying "try, Captain?". She was just hanging around while saying this. in 1 of my replays she did stop but afterward when the captain was speaking she started to wander around.
2.....the music at the end was good. the sound placed when the woman comes into the scene isn't proper.
3.....many dialogues went longer compared to the words in them.
4.....many times the scenes that were shown were bad. like when the skeletons attack the city then before their attack there is a gap in the actual attack and that's scene's starting. also when the skeletons were very near it was only after Nikola had attacked that the others started attacking.
5.....MANY typing mistakes

nerby instead nearby
wont instead of won't
dont instead od don't
everwere instead of everywhere
peek instead of peak
exicst instead of exist
carefull instead of careful
beard is spelled wrong differently at different places

i won't point out more. this much are enough.
6.....why did the necromancer say that the Green one ran away? Did he not notice that he just vanished?
7.....Also in the scene with the necromancer the scene is bad. I can see the banshee, necromancer, nikola, graveyard and half the sword of Captain of town watch. yes, the 3 other are not visible in this scene.
8.....there was an attack on the village after the necromancer had been killed but still people were moving around as it was a regular day. Wouldn't you call that odd?
9.....in the battle scene's beginning captain was saying about the knight's arrival even before he arrived in the scene. also he said about the victory too even before all the attackers were down
10.....after the battle was over the warriors were standing in a circle. why? it looked odd.
11.....the battle with the serpent wasn't very interesting. 3 of them were not able to do much damage as appears through the comments of the Serpent but Nikola killed him in one blow? Also what was the thing that appeared over Nikola? spirits of his friends?
12.....i can't stop the cinematic without exiting the game.
13.....the blade smith was a legend. nobody knew where he was but still these 3 found him in this small time?
14.....the motion of the 3rd garrison in the scene when they go to investigate wasn't good. They were colliding with each other way too often.
15.....the women was standing at the same place even after 20 hours.
16.....when the 3 of them reach the church then 1 of them can't go to his place due to a rock. So he first collides with one of the others and then goes round the rock and then reaches his place.
17.....the river which you had placed just before reaching The blacksmith is a nice one.
18.....why is Lazar carrying that mining tool with him everywhere?
19.....The graveyard's terrain needs improvements otherwise the motion of units around the things there doesn't appear to be good.
20.....all over the terrain needs improvements.

Even though the story is nice but the way of presentation isn't very good. Not any major problems but the scenes at some places need much improvements otherwise they appear to be bad. Introducing Music into the cinematic will surely improve the quality.
I will give it 2/5. The reason in brief for the rating:
1.....bad scenes at many points (Main reason for low rating)
2.....final battle got bad special effects
3.....Terrain has to be improved.
4.....lot of typing mistakes
5.....cinematic can't be skipped WITHOUT exiting the game

This map wasn't really anything special. A LOT of bad grammar and such. I watched mainly because I am going to watch the other 6, and then the Lone Panther, but this chapter was overall bad.
2/5, for originality, overly long waits for 2 word phrases, Coco jokes, and randomly inserted phrases like "ooh, these swords must be really enchanted, because they have triggers!" (As they are leaving town)
I have heard that the Lone Panther is one of the hive's gems, so I am assuming the next one is much better.

I'm sure you'll find the Sect of the Holy Mother to be an equal gem. The fact of the matter is, as I've said it before countless times, this is the very first map I ever made and it isn't anything special in terms of terrain, cameras and polish. However, as the series had developed, so have my skills, and I'm sure by the time you hit the final part of the series you'll find the series, as a whole, enjoyable :)

You very first cinematic, friend! For a first cinematic its quite good but I miss the voice actors? Why are there no voice actors? So here is a proper review for this map, Ill not be harsh on this because this is your first cinematic but you should have improved it with your skills now...

STORY: 15/20 - The story is so simple and not a twist in it. Some of the parts in the story... I cant seem to understand them. Mostly because you have used wrong triggers or maybe there is leak in the trigger or another possibility is you have many wrong grammars.

TERRAIN: 6/10 - Terrain is quite simple not some custom models except for the trees. But I suggest you to improve it a little mostly the Sect of the HM, you should make it more hellish realistic. Dont spam Fire model.

TRIGGERS: 17/20 - Most of the triggers are quite simple. Well, some are so awesome but all I can say is improve it.

TOTAL: 38/50 = 3.8/5 = 4/5 - Nice job, improve some of the triggers in the cinematic and also the terrain. For the story, its your choice if you want to add more on it. That's all, Ill try to give another REP if I spreaded some! SO I owe you 2 REPS...lol

The cinematic, in my opinion, is okay. I understand the misspellings and static camera at some scenes since it was your first cinematic. I am looking forward for the next series of the "Sect of the Holy Mother" :grin:

-the villager woman that was screaming doesn't stay put; it has the wander ability; after the 20th hour she was still there walking like a critter
-he didn't even ask about the men...
-ESC doesn't do anything

It would be good for cinematic map creators to insert something to skip over certain scenes instead of exiting the whole map.
