Well, I for one have a lot of things going on at the moment.
School's taking a lot of time currently, it's about 1 exam every day. The bright side is that my holidays starts on the 21st :) So you can expect a lot do be done during my 3-week-long holidays. WoW's also taking a lot of time x) But that'll change when I step down from class leader, which should be during next week.

We just redesigned some things for a smoother gameplay, and there are some systems that I'll need to rewrite. But actually, most "work" should be setting up all mobs and breathing life into our creation. (Which could take forever..)

If the demo isn't released before new year's eve; I'll try to convince the other members to release it and then release updates whenever possible.

Sorry for the lack of information, and thanks for the support! :)

EDIT: I'm aware that this post is pretty weird (inconsistent/grammatically) and I hope that you'll endure reading through it x)

Yes, I'm afraid there has been some slowness on my part as well. However, I am still working. I just finished my short story entry for the THW Short Story Contest #5, so I can once more focus on Shadows of Everwood.

My plans are to finish boss fights, rewrite quest dialogues and creep/loot lists.

Some work in progress terrains from the Bog dungeon, it will also contain a sewer:

GT is correct. ^.^

I will, however, make a massive OP update (also with new info - yay!) in the New Year.

They keep changing dates Naga. They said it'd be done the 31st of novem, didn't happen. Just have patience. Seems like they have a lot to work on, and now that it's the holidays, they won't have nearly as much time.

How many heroes will there be total?

Because if there are slots open, some people may have suggestions (I even may have a few :p). Just submit us with a template maybe? Breakdown of the basic hero? Anything really...

alot, anyway Wolfe said in a post on the previous pages that he will not take class suggestions for now (until all the classes are released)...

Just got back from my concert in Copenhagen, so work on SoE will speed up until Friday.
Hopefully, I'll get another boss up and probably some creeps (so that we can test some of the systems).

And yes; the map is 456x456 I believe, and as Oz said, it's about 40-50% finished (in total).
As for coding completion, I'd guess somewhere around 80% (for the demo).

Death System
Shadows of Everwood ORPG will feature a new and improved version of how death and resurrection is used and exhibited in the MMO, ORPG and RPG genre. Such features include the use of allies, a new section of terrain and evidence of how much you know about your character.

To conclude, SoEORPG will not be a game where you can simply not care about dying because a healer can instantly resurrect you. As you read on, you will understand that a healer will be drained to resurrect you in the midst of battle, losing valuable energy that he/she will require to keep fighting, or keep the remainder of the party alive. Dying is something that will hinder you and your allies greatly, so be sure to stay alive as long as possible. However, do not worry - each class has a set of abilities that can aid in your and your allies' survival.

DEATH
Death happens quite a lot, especially in Shadows of Everwood. Simply, it is inevitable for you to die a lot when facing the dangers that lurk in every crevice of the woodland realms. However, death is not the end. When you die, there are many options for you to take. These options are as follows:

  • an ally can pick up your corpse, decreasing his/her movement speed and disabling all spells and bring you to one of the hermit priests or priestesses that make their home in the wilds
  • or being resurrected by an ally with enough power and the reagents to revive you without the need of a priest or priestess
  • you can choose for your soul to ascend into the Realm of Death where you are to prove to Gadrek and Morde that you are worthy of the Realm of the Living by defeating a duplicate of your spirit

The first option essentially requires an ally who knows what he or she is doing. When you die, your soul remains hovering over your body until you decide whether you wish to ascend into the Realm of Death. If not, your ally is able to pick up your corpse (with your spirit and camera locked on that ally) and take you to a nearby priest or priestess. There are at least two of these hermits in the wilds, while a more formal healer can be located in any major city. A resurrection costs 100 Gold and takes three seconds to complete. Once complete, your soul and body merge, and your camera is locked back onto your character.

Summary:
  • your soul hovers over your body
  • an ally can pick up your body, reducing their movement speed by 25%
  • your camera is locked on your ally’s character
  • a hermit priest or priestess will demand 100 Gold to be resurrected
  • resurrection takes three seconds
  • once revived, your camera is locked back to your character
  • your health is reduced by 15% for two minutes due to the divine powers used in the ritual

The second option essentially cheats both other options, but does come at a price. Paragons have the ability to resurrect their allies, but it is not casual and requires much to be successful. If you have the ability ‘Divine Intervention’, you are able to resurrect, however you require one soul draught, two powerstones, full energy and at least half of your current health.

Summary:
  • Healer class can resurrect, but requires full mana, 50% health and three objects

After clicking this, you will appear in an arena of spiritual energy where you will duel a mirrored copy of yourself with the same ability build, damage, stats, model, items and even potions. If you defeat that duplicate, you will be returned back to your body exactly where you died. If you fail, you will have to wait two minutes in darkness before being able to try again. During this period, there will be a message stating:

“You must wait two minutes before being able to try again.”

This time, you will have a 10% boost to your armour. Once returned, you will have a 15% decrease in your health for two minutes.

Summary:
  • players can select a button in their UI to ‘ascend’
  • player souls are then transported to the Arena of Gamor
  • must defeat an exact duplicate of themselves to be returned back to their bodies
  • if players fail, they must wait two minutes in darkness with text
  • when they return, they have a 10% boost to their armour
  • when players defeat themselves, they return to their bodies (wherever they died)
  • once revived, their health is reduced by 15%

Some pictures for ya all of the demo forest, there is a lot more that I didn't take but I was lazy. :p

It depends on your character. You're fighting your exact duplicate down to the last potion. We're not designing SoE to be one of those "die and just get rezzed instantly" games. Death is a penalty - your aim is to avoid it. With the right build (as each class has many survival abilities), you can avoid it.

If you really know your character, you'd know how to counter it, so the fight would be quick if you know what the hell you're doing.

And you'll only be fighting if you take that choice, that's also why we actually put 3 choices... If you don't think you can counter yourself, then just choose one of the other two (most probably the choice to get your corpse taken by a party member)...

and as Wolfe said, each class has A LOT of survival abilities, you just need to familiarize urself on how to use them effectively...

Mmhmm. We aim for it to be an interesting fight. In the future, it may even lead to small rewards.
