Guys I'd like to discuss about game balance. It's a topic that lajr raised recently, and that I'm trying to improve too.
Currently
my goal is to obtain a late game where all the features below are equally efficient:
- Normal attacks <-- VS --> Spells
- Normal attacks <-- VS --> Summons damages
- Damage return <-- VS --> Normal attacks
- Absolute damage bonus <-- VS --> % damage bonus

Heal amount <-- VS --> Damage taken (from either spells or attacks)
But there are many ways to achieve that unfortunately...
Let's start with normal attacks vs spells.
Normal attacks vs spells
The variables are:

Player stats

Ennemy stats

Ennemy armor

Damage bonuses (excluding debilitation aura that gives same bonus to spells & normal attacks)
(Health point is linear for both spells & damages, so it changes nothing)
Spell damages
- Stronger damage spells do 10 000 damage with a cooldown of 15s. It means a max DPS of ~666 per spell.
- Worse damage spell probably do something like 2000 damage with a cooldown of 10s. It means a DPS of ~200.
- Units have 1 to 4 damage spells (only Dryad has 0).
So we could say that
spell DPS is between 200 and 2 600, with a median of 1 400. (this excludes Frost Chaos, Lightning Chaos & Rune Clock).
Normal damages
- For late game, let's consider a min stat at 2000, and a max stat at 12000 (I ignore attribute bonus of Warden to simplify the formula).
- Base damages are approximatively equal to primary attribute. So they go from 2000 to 12000.
- Units can have from +0% to approx +600% damage (critical strike is equivalent to +200% damages).
- Units can have from +0 to ~20 000 damage (lightning sword + assassin blades +1 orb skill).
- I ignore Druid's ability to deal more damages to heroes/units (to simplify the formula).
- If we consider all thoses, damage per hit is between 2 000 and 104 000 (12000*8+20000).

- Currently, maximum attack speed for heroes is 3,33 hits per second. Generally this speed is reached in late game.
- So DPS in late game
normal attacks DPS is between 6 600 and 346 000, with a median of 176 000.
So if we resume, in late game:
- Spells: min = 200, median = 1400, max = 2600
- Normal attacks: min = 6600 (33x spells), median = 176 000(125x spells), max = 346 000 (133x spells)
So if I want them equally efficient, I need an
armor reduction between 97% and 99,2%.
- Reduction is equal to (armor * 0.06) / (1 + armor * 0.06).
- Armor is equal to reduction / ( 0.06 * ( 1 - reduction) ).
It means an
armor between 540 and 1860, median 1200.
Would you agree with this figures ?
Ally stats max: ~12 000.
Ennemy defense max: ~1 900.
And this does not consider summons (from your 1st or 2nd hero in dual mode) that adds normal damages. Also there are some approximations (for ex a mage attacks between spells, he doesn't wait doing nothing^^)
