PS: How did you get that emoticon?!

"Fin" It's annoying to reply when you're asking someone else, even tho I could of helped you with your question. :p

I got it from google :p And I suggest you have a look on our forums Foxy :)

And perhaps one shouldnt steal from another

That's just silly. No one expects you to get proper sound actors for a wc3 project. Besides, many other projects have used sound sets from Empire Earth and others while still being approved.

We will propably not have custom dialog (even though it would be totally cool), each sound file takes up about as much space as a model, and i'd rather put some other unit types in there before i start making custom dialogue. It would be really cool to have some nice WW2 tank driver sounds since the steam tank soundset is really lame. Apart from that though, we do have custom sounds for gunfire and cannons. I will add a custom sound for rifle fire too.

I used a mod program that you would open one of the archive files in the game directory. I extract a sound file that is in a format the game uses and change it to .wav. I then open the .wav in a program called "hex editor". I just press delete 12 times which deletes 12 characters of text. I think that is where it compresses it and makes it play in .wav format.

That or the sounds are already compressed somehow.

Thank you. I'd be happy to help getting you some more. There are thousands of sounds that don't have proper names. But they do go under categories which is good. For me to find sounds I like I would have to go through every single file since mass extracting doesn't work. Mass renaming doesn't work either.

You have to copy, rename the extension, open in hex editor, delete characters, save, then finally listen if it's the right one. I'm currently testing and asking the creators of the programs if there's an easier way that requires less work.

As for the game, to me it is perfect and has no flaws. I guarantee that you will find some systems you can use in your project.

I can get you any sounds you need. From mortars to artillery to mines to tank cannons to any SMG or rifle. As well as explosions and destruction sounds.(tanks blowing up etc)

Added a .rar sample with 2 tank cannon sounds. The rest are MP40 and Kar98 sounds. I just picked from random. There are plenty more. Editing the Mp40 loop files to your needs is a good idea depending on how long your infantry fire for. Most are 20-40KB so that's not all that bad.

If the sounds are lightweight as I can see in the posts (didn't downloaded any of them), we could use one for the infantry classes, if they actually look good. And we need for tanks too. Honestly, there's no good sound of a tank-fire on WC3.

Think of it as this:
What is the effect of burst fire vs aimed fire?
Quite simply, burst fire provides higher firing speed at the cost of lower accuracy and/or range. Since we don't use accuracy in our map, i'd say range is the only viable option.
The problem with this is that distances in this game are as short as they can possibly be without looking aesthetically unappealing.
Therefore, the distance in range between burst and aimed would be something like this:

to this:

And you have to agree that would be quite ridiculous.
Not to mention the fact that you have to press the ability button on all of your units to change stance whenever it fits, and besides, i don't think anyone would prefer aimed stance before burst simply because of how small the range difference would be (also considering that infantry are very fast).

@de.facto: what do you mean?

Total warrior, there are a couple of more sounds from hte game i'd like you to export. First of all, i'd like to have the looping engine sound from when the tanks move. Also, i'd like some better tank cannon sounds (the one you sent was more like "BLAARFF") as well as the sound of a projectile hitting ground and armor.

Alright got them. Might want to turn your speakers down a bit for the explosions. There are 16 files in this one. I know this is pretty big in size but it's because there are different variations of tank cannons and the engines and explosions are pretty big. But I doubt you'll use most of them since you would only need a few. They all sound pretty good to me so it's hard to choose :p.
