I wonder if it's possible to have two layers inside the map (Without making it laggy), like one for underground and one on the ground.

I'm really sorry... Erm, does this map sounds override Warcraft III's sounds, like some other games which has their own custom sounds suddenly appearing in some other game after it's played?

Hmm... What else could be added...
How about a means to earn income through some stock market? So there's a chance to earn more or less depending on Wall Street.

I just noticed on the minimap were the isles of Hawaii should be located aren't visible, theres just a large patch of water. Maybe the terraining haven't reached that part of the world. Just curious if you have discluded it or something, due to the fact that Pearl Harbour is an essential part of the world war.

Anyway, I like the progress of this project, so thumbs up!

@damon92: he uses two exactly similar terrains above eachother, with two identical camera rects on top of them, and with everything going on pretty much similar using triggers, and then he spaws the camera bounds to the second layer each time you switch dimension. Did you check the map out? It is so cool.

yes i checked the map out and i was impressed, the 'change dimension' was so cool. so sad that the map is protected :p

hmm, about the two layer of terrain, thats what i've been wondering, how to make a terrain above a terrain? (OOT, sorry)

@topic: will this map be more like an altered melee (choose your faction, and dominate the enemy) or like a campaign with a long gameplay that it require a save/load system? I personally prefer the second.

@Damon, *cough*WINMPQ*cough*

It is impossible to mak3e a terrain "above" a terrain, theese two are merely next to eachother, only synchronized.

And well, this map is more like altered melee than campaign, but it is still nothing like warcraft melee. You don't start with equal ammounts of units or resources, and your entire techtree will be completely different from that of the other players (there are actually very few players that have an exactly similar tech tree as the other ones).

I have a few questions, I really hope you don't mind...
Erm, Fin will soldiers be able to swim, but have reduced movement and armor?
And will there be a system which requires transportation to 'reach' your building before you can gain income?
Lastly, will stuff like radio transmissions be able to have some 'transmitting' time in between, to add realism?
Sorry if I asked too much, I'm just really curious:)

No.
Not sure about how you mean but I think Fingolfin had some such plans for specific rare buildings.
No.
No problem. :)

Will there be special units that aren't heroes, but are like, well known people in the world? They could be able to have certain buffs for the faction based on how much they kill, which could earn them 'medals' and such, how's that?

ok, sadly i'm not good at micro controlling xD

Hey Fingolfin, HOW DID YOU GET SO MANY FUCKING POSTS OH MAH GAWD. xD

OMG 666 POST COUNT. >.> I WILL KILL YOU ALL.

lol

btw xRiotZx, your project Black Winter is also the one i'm currently spectating, besides these two in my signature.

hmm, i'd prefer a system where soldiers could be ranked up by say, killing or razing a building or something, and as they achieve higher rank, they got stronger.

That system could apply, along with the 'special unit' one, which, instead of gaining ranks for him, he could gain medals since he's the leader.

Unless he had huge buffs and the relative HP of a battleship, i'd se no use of this kind of unit at all. He would either just be sitting around in your base or get focused down by the enemy.

I would like to have a rank system, but your soldiers get killed so fast that you just wouldn't care. Don't misunderstand me though, your units are worth something and they can take at least five or six hits before they are killed (even infantry can take four or five hits from a tank), but they are very vurnerable on hte battlefield, and there is very little you can do to save your favourite units once they get into the line of fire. Also, there are so many units on the map that it would just feel overdone.

I'm not outruling the possibility of having at least tanks and artilleries gain rank from kills, in the sense that it would cause them to operate faster (since the crew gets more experienced in reloading and manouvering), but it is not something we prioritize.

How about planes? In the War, I've seen people mark their planes with the number of kills they have, do those count in this game too?

Hm... It'll give some sense to keep stuff like planes alive more often instead of merely spamming them and losing tons of dollars, at least that's what the World thinks.

We're limiting planes already and will make sure to not make them spammable. One of their main objectives will probably be destroying heavy artillery-equipped fortfications as well as raiding ships. And if Fingolfin will agree to add paratroopers (we've discussed it a few times) that will make them very usefull and unique as well.

But I'am happy to assure you that you will need a lot more than planes to win in WiF :)

Just curious, how the strategical bombers attack? I mean, they walk-by releasing bombs, or just attack normally like any other unit in WC3?

Cool! I like it :) .
And what about the fighters? Is there any way to implement some dogfighting? Lol kidding XD. But maybe make the fighters use an attack like hit-and-run, or make a more complicated and more realistic one.
My idea is something like this: first, the fighter gets in a line of its target (imagine a P-40 getting on the line of a Zero, like aiming), then it starts to fire, the shots works like a shockwave, and finally, when the attacker is close to its target, it turns to evade collision.
I know it sounds too complicated, but well... just giving ideas XD

Yeah no problem, I had some similiar ideas, though as we didn't implent it yet we don't know which way we're going.

Edit:
As Fingolfin is the one holding the map right now, I would appreciate some critique on the website, thanks :)

Mmmm okay. And have you decided which planes each country will use?

Perhaps Fingolfin would have a better answer for this one :p Heinkel Bomber for Germany however would be awesome.

To not take up too much file size I however think we said we decided to have one bomber and fighter/fighterbomber each for Axis/Allies/Asian Countries and see where it leads to :p

=Axis countries have the same, Allied countries the same (apart from USSR perhaps?) and Asian Countries the same.

My suggestion is:
~Allies:
-Escort and Interceptor fighters: Supermarine Spitfire or P-40 Warhawk (USSR would use MiG-3 or Yak-9)
-Tactical Bomber: SBD Dauntless or Blackburn Skua (USSR would use Il-2)
-Strategical Bomber: B-17 Flying Fortress (USSR would use Pe-2)

~Axis:
-Escort and Interceptor fighters: Bf-109
-Tactical Bomber: Stuka
-Strategical Bomber: HE-111

~Asian Countries:
-Escort and Interceptor fighters: A6M Zero
-Tactical Bomber: Aichi D3A
-Strategical Bomber: Mitsubishi G4M

Maybe having soldier ranks? Increased bounty for killing a major instead of a private as an example. Maybe gaining aura, buffs, damage etc. Although this would be kinda hardcoded, for each rank and each unit type but you'll make it haha :D

That brings up something kewl I thought of. If you have a Major commanding a group of soldiers, and he is killed, you should have to assign a new commander perhaps? Or to prevent micros you could make it where the second highest ranking soldier becomes his successor. Much like the system in SC1 and I guess SC2 - although I never played it so I wouldn't know - It would tell what rank soldiers are by their amount of kills.

@xRiotZx: I'm sorry, the problem with this is that you would have to assign new units to your groups constantly, whenever someone dies, and sometimes you'll just be sending one or two units to escort your tanks, and it is generally just an inneficcient system that would leave you with a billion groups with two or three members, and equally many squad references for the system to keep track on.

You guys shouldn't get carried away with this whole ranking thing, we will not be having units that are one-man armies. I am starting to partially like the idea though, it doesn't have to be a prominent feature of the game, but more like something in the background - your units could be either unexperienced, experienced, or very experienced - and this would only have very minor effects to attack cooldown and speed (and maybe hp).

@Hugomath: didn't you write that exact same thing in the beginning of the thread? I'm pretty sure it's there somewhere, or at least in hte prvious thread.

As for other stuff: we will either have airplanes move and act realistically, or we won't have them at all. So don't worry.

Yes I remember, maybe it is in the third page. But I just want to know if you both decided, for sure, which planes each country will use. But lets leave it for later, I think we should focus on the land and sea combat for now.
So... how's the progress with the Priest and the Ships?

All _I_ know is that we have the Graf Spee, Liberty Ship and some Destroyer ship. Priest however is just missing texture if I recall right.

edit:
Oh and yea you can actually see the ship models themselves in the very end of the beta video.

Like I said, it would really has to be bad ass coded else it would 'cause problems, big ones. And it would take time, lots of time.
