If anyone (M0rbid?) want to host the next picture, that'd be nice :)

I want to do an entry myself ;)

And expect the "results" to be in within the week.

Ah crap, completely forgot about this
Meh, it's not like I had any huge inspiration when I first say this terrain anyway, the random single doodads really helped catalyze my ideas in the past.

Following is my judgements for all the contestants, I hope:

Alright, well. I’ve got to say that I love the concept. It pretty much looks exactly like what I would envision my Nomad race in Dawn of Life (a story I am writing)’s capital city to look like. About the doodad placement and foreground in itself, well, I get it that it’s not really done, but I would like to see that stone path being a little more rugged, look a little more human made and worn down, like it naturally would be in a city like this. Then, I don’t really get the geyser in the crater thing, looks a little random to me, but then, that’s not too much of a problem. I also think that bridge in the foreground could be moved a little more backwards, seeing as the texture of it looks very stretched, and if you move it back just a little bit, the textures won’t be too noticeable, considering their so small and stuff. I’ll just not comment on the mountains in the background since their not done.
All in all, lovely terrain, and I’d like to see the done version one day.

First suggestion; use more custom doodads. The normal wc3 rocks looks horrid compared to some of the better looking custom ones, as does that shrubbery you’re using, it simply just doesn’t look good. And don’t give me the “I wanted to create a wc3 feel” bullshit. This is Terrain Art, not a lookalike contest for an 8 years old game where when they didn’t have any better resources to work with. However, for the doodad placement in itself, that’s done very good. Though I’d argue about the doodad dimensions, the trees in the background should’ve been smaller than those closer to the camera, and should also be more varied in both size and type. You should always have at least two tree models to shuffle through when making a forest, using only one type of trees make it seem spammed and hardly good looking at all. Other than that there is no fog whatsoever, and no lighting either. You should probably work much more on this, to learn how to use the fog and then utilize it to make the horizon seem like it fades away in a vivid everlasting dream, in other words: just fade out. It’s a nice terrain, though with small improvements, it could look ten folds better.

Haha, I just find this very funny. When I saw your first WIP I never thought this would look good, at all. But this final version is actually very cool, and considerably well done. I do have to say that I dislike the choice of having only one tree model to work with, or one tree type, however it’s not too bad as the terrain doesn’t really seem spammed, tree-wise. However, on a total level the entire terrain seems kind of spammed and crammed together, I’d like to see you have a little less detail, or at least spread the details a little more out, and just do a smoother forest with more open spots. I can also see some stretched textures here and there, which kind of takes away from the magic, mainly the rocks and the leaves up close in the lower left corner. I also feel that there could be fewer crystals around the forest, and have beads of crystals, rather than just spread around large ones, but then, that’s not too much of a concern. Overall, the terrain looks cool and has its own style, which indeed is important. Good job.

You, my friend, have some imagination and style when it comes to terraining, and why I haven’t seen you too much around the terrain board before, is beyond me. As much as I love your foreground, and that temple/rock formation/fossil thing, there are some crucial aspects of your terrain that really needs help. For one, you either have entirely yellow fog, or a very light fog to compliment the sunlight, and whether that was intended or not, doesn’t really matter. As it appears, the fossil thing seems like it “should” be the centre of focus is your terrain, but due to the intense light it kind of fades as the eyes instantly jumps to the source of that light when I look at the terrain. I’d suggest having a darker kind of fog, and possibly less intense light. To compliment that, you should also draw the fog further back, and add some two or three more layers of mountains in the background, making the terrain fade away into the distance, for a more appealing scenery. As a last small pointer, I’d also like to see those clouds less intensely coloured, might want to tone them down a bit to make them look more natural.

I am very pleased by this terrain, you really did a great job Oziris. There will be little to nitpick on, but I’ll always find something, eh? ;) For one thing, I’m not entirely into those two vines dangling from the ceiling of the cave, mostly due to their unnatural look, I’d say either you remove them, or you add more, I just feel like if there would be anything hanging down in front of that cliff, it should be more clustered than it currently is. And while we’re in the cave, I’d say the cave walls and all needs to get some lighter tone, not much, but just a slight lighter, feels too dark, even though it’s supposed to be inside a cave. In addition, the carpets on the wall to the right seem a little low-res as compared to the rest of that structure, just looks a tad out of place. Other than that, I don’t feel like I have much I want to criticise, only thing I’d really liked to see is something special as a centre of focus, seeing as the entire thing just seem a little plain to me, but that might just be me.

Here I am providing you with a map that holds some of the best looking doodads there is, and you still resort to using the fucked up ugly looking Wc3 standard doodads, with none to slight usage of custom doodads. Realise one thing, friend, Terraining is meant to be art, it’s meant to look good. But now, let’s do a proper review:
For starters, even though this is meant to be the insides of some volcanic kind of cave, I’d suggest you draw back the entire terrain, and make some proper use of the fog, fog truly adds so much to a terrain. I’d also suggest you work a little more on doodad placement, and usage. You seem to have many empty spots, and little to none natural aspects in your terrain. I also highly suggest that you do not use units in your terrains until you’ve become a little more experienced in the art of terraining, and learn how to utilize them correctly. As a bottom line; have a look at nature, chose your doodads more wisely, and practice. I really can’t say anything more.

If anything, you really captured the feeling of underwater in this terrain. I truly get the feeling of being submerged, and I can see and feel how this isn’t very far beneath the surface of the water, due to it becoming very light up close to the top of the screen, very well devised underwater feeling, I have to say. I also like the runes a lot, how you make them seem painted onto the rocks when I do know the reality of how their placed ;) Though, I really think you did a poor job with those rocks, over half of them look to me as if their floating, and we all know that rocks do not float in water, I’d seriously consider lowering them down, or adding more rock to make it seem like their bases touch the seafloor properly, rather than how it is right now. I also do not completely agree with some of the doodads chosen, some of those shrubs just don’t suit an underwater terrain for me. And that green thing, I guess there’s nothing really wrong with it, but I personally think that there could be something else as the centre of focus, something more interesting.

    Judgement
Well. As always you seem to be quite compatible with fog and effects, making a very dreamlike terrain with much emotion and thought put into it. And I am seriously still in debate with myself whether I feel this terrain is spammed, or not. The forest in the foreground, even though only one tree model is used, doesn’t really give me the impression of being spammed, so I won’t complain about that. Neither will I complain about the overload of rocks in the background, however, I honestly feel you could’ve achieved a much better result had you used felsen rocks, or even steinlord rocks and been a little more creative with it, having different kinds of formations, arches, spires, tall and short.. etc etc... I do really like that harpy and the stars of your terrain, and the fog is superb.
The background gives me the slight feeling of “end of the world” but really not enough to be truly bothersome. Overall, I am slightly confused by this terrain, but it also enthrals me, so kudos for that and a very well devised terrain.

Appears to be a very unfinished terrain, so I really don’t want to be commenting on it, especially considering you probably know yourself what needs to be done and whatnot, Azurot. All I will say is a good first WIP, shame you didn’t finish it, good luck doing so, though.

Horrible terrain, truly horrible. I seriously hate everything about it, get lost, get out of here, you CANT terrain for shit! ;)

I am, for the record, very pleased with most of the entires. You all did a good job, and chose well to enter, I hope we can get at least as many contestants for a possibly next Picture, come that when it may. You can all applaud yourselves for a job well done, however.

Though, as it appears, I am to appoint a winner. I have to say that this contest was a close call between cobra, Oziris and fladdermasken (his entry is great :p) And when given some thought, regarding among others fladdermasken's great eye for detail, and original arcitectified mind, Oziris' overall appeal and experience as a terrainer and cobra's truely artistic tendencies, I have to say, I am a sucker for, well, this terrain:

Oh, and p.s: Do be so kind, contestants, and lend some rep to our winner. :)

    My Winning Terrainer Is:
