Okie ladies and gentlemen, here is my first entry. A bit extravagant, I agree, but what can I say, I guess I got carried on by the details. Therefore it may be a bit too detailed for warcraft 3. Here are some stats:

Polycount: 240.
Filesize: ~10kB
Animations: Stand (most auras don't present other animations)

Let the comments flow! And if you know any freeware good programs to capture the animation, let me know ;)

Haha Pyritie, you should see the animation... The bottom has two planes with varying visibility. In the screenshot they are both at 100% visibility.

Oh no Fulla, that won't be a problem. I need to check it though again, cuz I must've forgot about it for this model. Thanks for reminding me btw. ;)

And yeah, the model is scratch! All my SFX models are scratch. If inspired from other Blizzard models that's different. But I don't "take" stuff from other models.

Edit: And here is a preview of a new buff effect, Frozen Mana. Still needs Birth and Death animations.

Edit2: Preview removed because full version of model done!

Good... Cuz when I sleep, I get some crazy ideas. And last night, this fabulous effect came into my mind. Can't tell you more, but you'll see it when it's done. And it will take me quite a while to make. :p Hopefully I won't mess it greatly, cuz it is indeed a bit complex and maybe bit atop my skill.

Here is Frozen Mana, fully completed, with birth, stand and death animations. Though it's true that a static image is not so impressive, I hope you'll like the animated versions once you'll see them. ;)

Model stats:
Polycount (for Stand): ~40 (has emmiter which makes it vary between 38 and 44 or so).
File size: ~8 kB
Animations: Birth, Stand, Death

Feel free to leave your comments!

Okie guys and gals, time for my third submission. Can you guess what it is? [...] Come on, anybody?! Well, not something very biggy, but a nice addition to any ice pack: Frozen Orb missile! Inspired from Diablo II with some upgrades. Additions include twinkling shine, ice-like vibrating rings and last but not least, comet-like frost tail. Any gadgets a Frozen Orb could ask for.

Model Stats:
Polycount - Around 200 (what can I say, quite a lot of emmiters around there :p). Model body polycount: 86 (includes the orb glow)
File size: ~13 kB
Animations: Birth, Death, Stand (everything a missile model needs)

Comments of course are welcome and encouraged. Meeery Christmas everybody! :wsmile:

Okay, Frost Flame Strike was pretty close, but not close enough. I would like to present you Frost Nova effect. Initially I wanted it to be useable for frost nova spells just like in Diablo, but unfortunately particles are not scalable (or I don't seem to be able to scale them). But the effect shall prove extremely useful for effects similar to Battle Roar, but with an ice thematic.

Model Stats:
Polycount: ~100-105 or so (many particle emmiters so greatly varies)
File size: ~4 kB
Animations: Stand (it's a one-shot effect)

Enjoy and leave comments!

Special effects are not so complicated. You just need to experiment a bit with 3dsmax. They are easier than they seem. I can mostly tell by examining Blizzard effects how they were made, and some are quite simple might I add. :)

Thanks everybody! Time to get the surprise model started!

O I got a good one

Ok, If you've ever played Zelda, and got frozen, it doesn't happen all at once
I already said that

The hard part though, is after the effect happens, it explodes shards all over the place

Could one of you make one similar to that?

So when we destroy the effect, it has a really good death animation???

I ment "similar"

Like, it's not exactly that

Just has the same type of effect (slow freeze, and then explodes into many pieces)
