You know, while WC3 modding certainly has the upper hand vs SC2 atm, because of more resources and because it's easier modable, but I don't see anything like this ever being achieved in wc3... and let's not forget we are in the year and age of 2011.

Also, mods in sc2 will be able to be sold if they are good enough, which will attract many modders to try their best in sc2, in hopes of gaining money from what they do.

I believe that modding certainly extended the life of wc3, and will continue to do so, but i highly doubt that there will be any new mod in wc3 which will get at least as popular as Azeroth Wars, Footmen Frenzy and so on (not to mention DotA).

As for Warcraft 3 completly dissapearing, not a chance, not anytime soon. As it has been proven by SC1, players will still play it, even 12 years after it's initial release, there will always be players to play the most popular custom maps.

True, but Warcraft III will constantly be advancing forward to meet player expectations sooner or later, so we players should relax and enjoy.

It's funny yet stupid how people go for the most obvious entertainment to find, though it is quite annoying. For example Call of Duty Black Ops, Zombies who would of ever thought of a game to blow there heads off and survive how many rounds. It's entertaining yet cheap in a scene. If only people would pay more attention to the better games instead of thinking that them games are for "uncool" nerds yet you can do whatever you want on it with some intelligence required yet playing COD requires a lack of intelligence and yet that seems to be a game that more of the "nerd" variety would play.
Talking about getting money for modding Sc2 would be a great move for Blizzard and may even attract me and also maybe when I get a desent enough laptop.

PS: I don't actually mind if Blizzard take a while to make Wc4 as there will be better technology with computers being better and yet cheaper with also better and faster access to internet it may promote the new Wc4 much more easily like how Sc2 wouldn't be populure in 2004 as now in 2011.

edit: also I just thought of another advantage of the wait. Maybe a new 3D system will be implemented and will enhance the game greatly:).

Well, my bro is going for informatics, and he could go work in Blizzard, but it's just an idea for now. If he ever becomes an employ there, I could ask him everything about plans for Wc4, patches for wc3, and pretty much everything :)

2 of my classmates are doing software programming and they seem really keen to join Blizzard once they get their qualifications, since it's where they can help contribute to their all time favourite game.

I think wc3 editor creativity is just beginning. Since the galaxy, sometimes you want to go back to the certain style wc3 offers. Limited by imagination.

Lol its not like if you go to study information technology you will become a part of the leading game designing and creating company known as Blizzard just like that.

He made programmes that cannot be understand by us, hive workshop newb *s compared to him, whether you can accept that fact or not. While we are making lame maps, he is making games.... And not mini games. He *ing made a RTS game. The only problem is, he didn't have much time for modelling, so he used wc3 models. He deffinetly would be accepted by Blizzard.

I have to say, if your friend leaks any info, that's very unproffesional of him. : )
(that's ofcourse IF he gets into Blizzard and IF he gets on the team for a new game and not WoW, Sc2)

If we have to be realists and not optimists like the majority of answers seem to be wishes, not reality, Only a few more years.

If the 15 years mean that someone on planet Earth will be playing that game even after 15 years, sure, but when it comes to 'last' I think of it what already happened - the majority left, even some die hard War3ers I have are now soon leaving although they stayed with war3 1 year after SC2 was released. Modding will likely be the only remain of war3 but I wouldn't call it 'bringing life to war3' as the community sure isn't filling the emptiness that happened in the last year. War3 is already dead, face it & move on.

Who knows, considering it's a really awesome game and somebody could come up with something interesting someday. Or maybe Blizzard would do something...

Anyways, I'm sure with the immense community, it'll be really hard to tell, so I'll just assume the positive and see all the best for Warcraft III:)

Well, Blizzard did say Titan wouldn't be a WoW killer using some hidden strategy, so the Warcraft lore would still live on and hence Warcraft III would be able to live longer:)

It's just funny how Miss Foxy is the kind of person to whom you have a secret button, and whenever you use it, she will come with a certain attitude you will always expect to see. In this case it's "Wc3 will die xP".

*funny in a good way : )

In my opinion,Warcraft 3 will last forever, even if warcraft 4 would come up,there will be people who would play the third installment, for example people whose computer's hardware can't overcome the game's minimum specs, die hard fans,or communities like this one.

Warcraft III will live forever! No matter how many people might stop playing it, they'll still hear about it and some would even come back, the current population is increasing as I know it:)

Warcraft III will die when two things happen:

1) An RTS Warcraft IV comes out and its world editor proves more powerful than currently.
2) Warcraft III gets a remake. Blizzard hasn't done it yet, but almost every other game company with classics have said, are considering, or have already done it. They'll jump in sooner or later.

Blizzard is a bunch of lazy bastards that don`t care for old fans.

^this

atm in sc2, i can't even play custom maps with my friends in Europe,
so much for fan support, by blizzard, lately they've been smoking cash

here's a thread i made on bnet forums about cross-region support: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/2795123883

mind you that ALL previous blizzard games could be played globally

Even look at their PTR:
General

A special sneak peek at new ladder maps is now available!
Several performance and memory improvements have been made.
"Player Left" messages will once again appear in replays.
The Hellion's Infernal Pre-Igniter upgrade icon has been updated (now with more blue flames!).

StarCraft II Editor Improvements

UI errors will now go into a newly-created Error Display Message window.
Cooldowns shorter than 1/4 of a second no longer display on the command card.

Awesome patch blizz, i get the same annoying editor n a patch with no balance changes, just a flashy new icon, great : /
hey its only been like what, 2 months since the last PTR

They promised a pack of sc2 modding tools a year ago... where are they idk

i don't think it is something wrong about your opinion,or something wrong about anything,Vunjo only wondered how come you had the most posts on this topic, each with the same idea, which is that war3 will last forever

exactly.

I think that all of us can do something to prevent warcraft 3 from dying. As simple as that, make a good map. If 1000 people like it, then they will play wc3 longer, maybe a little longer, but it's still a profit.

Oh, i think it never disappears. Warcraft 3 exists since 2002 and there are still lots of million players who plays and likes it.
Perhaps in 2050 the players will reduce to 40% only but i think it will be exist forever. Mayve even in 2100 in stronger animation.

Yeah!Just like starcraft 1,it is way older than warcraft 3,but it's still popular and played globally,so if starcraft 1 didn't died, and won't die,no doubt warcraft 3 would have the same faith as starcraft

people are still playing starcraft 1? o_O? But the number of players have sure reduced by the time it was made.

reduced, true, but it's still a diffrent number than 0 and that's what counts :p,even i play starcraft again from time to time...so what i want to say,is that as long as starcraft 1 is still being played,no doubt that warcraft 3 is being played too...
The only way i will make myself worries that warcraft 3 would die is when starcraft 1 first dies...

Well first of all, we should discuss 1 important thing. When we say warcraft 3 will live, do YOU think that few people play it, or like, much players through garena, and battlenet? I bet starcraft 1 is being played not by much people, at least, not nearly enough as warcraft 3 is being played...

But SC1 is still played and streamed in competitive level. I dont know about WC3. Is it? And a lot of players from WC3 changed to SC2.

I just found out that even Grubby is playing SC2. He was my fav. player in WC3. :<

Well, when i say that i think it will live,i say that it is still popular, and still played by people all over the world, but, you can't say it is completely dead until there is exactly no person who plays it, in multiplayer, and singleplayer

I do see melee games being hosted daily though, don't worry, I'm sure the game'll develop fast once again and melee games will become popular again:)
