Hey everyone,

Happy Easter! Easter eggs are an ancient symbol of new life and rebirth. So, we wanted to reinvent our stance and forgive those who broke these old rules in the past. Thus, we are opening a new outlet for them and a potential new user-base.

Starting next week, we will be producing and selling map deprotection hacks. Map deprotection software is a hacking extension that bypasses locked / intentionally corrupt maps.

Now of course, we understand some people may be concerned these hacks will be given to those with the wrong intentions (such as "breaking into" maps without an author's permission), but we trust in our user-base and our judgement to make sure the hacking software isn't abused beyond the benefit of map testing and modding. We feel that if we regulate map deprotection on Hive rather than have them flourish on some shady sites, we will be able to take away the problems these extensions cause.

Not everything is fully set, but expect an announcement next week. We'll advertise this for purchase in the top right corner of the site and will probably have it priced between $25-$35. Thank you for supporting the Hive and we hope these changes sit well with you guys.

I feel like all the people who quit updating their projects because they lost their only nonprotected version are going to have to all start looking for new reasons as to why they stop updating their maps. Are the benefits this brings really worth all the time those people will need to spend inventing new reasons? o_O

Maps Where the JASS file was made by compiling triggers to JASS can quite easily be reverse compiled back to triggers again in most cases at least. This was the biggest undertaking in this project.
Fixing the corrupt MPQ was done by just extracting all files and importing them into a new and clean MPQ.

Looking forward to your feedback on the project when it’s out.

To be honest I’m not much for preannouncing things. I’d rather wait and just announce them when ready.

Are you kidding me? I will never make another map if you start spreading such tools.

Hive team, I expected more from you, I'm greatly disappointed.

I thought this was a community to promote and better Warcraft III modding, but in the light of these news I see that none of the staff knows how to manage such site.

As I a map reviewer I've seen that most protected maps are submited by people who believe their map is special. It's not.
Most protected maps were just made by some random dude that just joined the Hive and thinks his leaky GUI triggers are perfect. This just annoys moderators that spend hours trying to figure out why an empty map should be approved (since when they bring the topic up, the author gets mad).
Just look at the evidence. Maps like sunken city and gaias are just glorified GUI, full of bugs and leaks. They were approved in their time because the authors complained long enough to make moderators get sick about them.
I for one welcome this change, finally I'll be able to figure out why a map in not working and send it to hell the substandard section were it belongs with proper arguments rather than having to approve without arguments.
Cheers.

This may be true for 80% of the maps, but the rest 20% are rare and special maps, which is not fair for some newbies just to pay and broke the map and claim it. I can only agree with you if these tools are used only by hive staff members who can use this tools to review maps.

Can I now also upload maps from other mappers that I have hacked in the past?*

*After changing the credits ofc!

Copyright rule still aplies
o_O
Possibly there will be different versions with different regulations. Why else would you:
have it priced between $25-$35.
I think this could be understood as a mod, when you buy the more expensive version*

Lies. All maps are unoriginal copies of copies of copies.

I don't believe that, because its not true. You might have seen copies of copies maps, but that's not the whole thing. What if mappers build maps from scratch? You will say again its a copy from another map?
